FIFA moves Futsal WCup matches from main arena

ZURICH (AP) FIFA says a Thailand stadium being built for the Futsal World Cup won't be ready to host matches until the quarterfinals next month.

FIFA says the Bangkok Futsal Arena is unable to stage three group-stage doubleheaders and a last-16 match because construction was delayed by heavy rains and flooding.

The 24-team tournament kicks off on Nov. 1 but the arena's scheduled matches before Nov. 14 have been moved to Indoor Stadium Huamark in Bangkok.

The 12,000-capacity venue in Nong Chok district has a reported 1,200 million baht ($40 million) budget.

The project is being led by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and Football Association of Thailand, whose president Worawi Makudi is a FIFA executive committee member.

FIFA will finally decide "on the readiness of the arena" on Oct. 25.
