Gabi lifts the Super Cup as the red and white ticker tape falls around the Stade Louis II. John Terry (who has obviously left his Chelsea kit back in London) looks on, stoney faced.
90' A JOB WELL DONE
Atletico claim their second ever European Super Cup, taking Chelsea apart with a breathtaking first half display. Falcao and co were awesome during the opening 45 minutes, but Roberto Di Matteo will be concerned by the apparent ease in which his attacking players were shackled by the Madrid defence, along with the fragility of his own back-four when faced with setpieces.

That would have been the final indignity. Emre bursts down the left for Madrid and fizzes a ball into the six-yard box which is poked against the post by the outstretched leg of David Luiz.

A decent opening for the Blues as Oscar brushes off a challenge before threading the ball to Hazard, who in turn plays in Juan Mata on the right side of the penalty area. The Spanish international takes a shot but, a little off-balance, is unable to prevent the ball flying clear of the crossbar.
78' CAN THEY FIND ANOTHER?
Can the Blues find another goal, which would add some much-needed respectability to the scoreline and give their travelling supporters something else to cheer? Ashley Cole has the chance to pull the trigger from distance, but the England man instead elects to chip a cross into the box. The Atletico defence, untroubled, clear with relative ease.

Hazard wins a corner for Chelsea, which is worked to Lampard on the edge of the area. The England midfielder's shot is deflected behind for another flag kick.

The Arda Turan-Falcao combination almost unlocks the Chelsea defence once again, but Ashley Cole is on hand to make the crucial blocking tackle to deny the Madrid striker.

69' ALMOST A FIFTH
Koke almost adds a fluky fifth, his free kick swinging all the way through the Chelsea penalty area and forcing Cech into a desperate save low down to his left. The Blues have looked less than secure from setpieces during the second half.
66' MARKED OUT OF THE GAME
Chelsea have seen plenty of the ball during this second half, as they did in the latter stages of the first period, but again their playmakers have been deprived of any time and space. A few Premier League managers will be requesting the DVD of this one.

That goal has surely made the game safe for Atletico, should any doubt have remained after that wonderful first half performance. Chelsea just haven't got near their opponents all evening.
60' GOAL - MIRANDA
This is becoming extremely embarrassing for the Champions League holders. Fernando Torres concedes a cheap free kick on the right flank, which is swung in by Koke. The delivery is nothing special, dropping in the middle of a scrum of players, but Falcao is able to bundle the ball towards MIRANDA who lifts a cheeky effort over the sprawling Petr Cech. Gary Cahill really should clear off the line, but only manages to knee the ball into the net. Chelsea 0, Atletico Madrid 4.
59' STICKING TO HIS MAN
Another break from Los Rojiblancos, as Cristian Rodriguez sprints down the left flank. The substitute finds Falcao with his cross but the striker, well-marshalled by David Luiz, is unable to make the space to fire off a shot.

Diego Simeone makes his first substitution, replacing Adrian Lopez with Cristian Rodriguez. The Atletico number 7 has put in a fine performance, that shocking first half miss aside.
54' CORNER - ATLETICO MADRID
Koke's half-cleared corner drops to the lurking Mario Suarez, whose deflected effort loops wide of Petr Cech's goal. The Czech international plucks the next Atletico flag kick out of air, allowing his side to clear their lines.

The ball drops to John Obi Mikel, 25-yards out, but the midfielder's shot cannons away off a red and white shirt.
50' TORRES EFFORT
Fernando Torres, who has been starved of the ball so far this evening, almost creates something out of nothing, turning past Adrian Lopez before dragging a shot wide of the far-post from 20-yards.

Branislav Ivanovic finds some space in behind the Atletico defence, a rare commodity so far this evening. The full-back slips as he attempts to cross, however, and his effort fails to pass the first defender.
48' FINE DEFENDING
It's the same old story for Chelsea at the start of the second period with another period of sustained, but non-threatening, possession in the Atletico half. Madrid keep their shape and press well, eventually bringing the ball away.
46' KICK-OFF - SECOND HALF
We're back playing in Monaco. Chelsea have made a half time change, replacing Ramires with summer signing Oscar.
45' HALF TIME SUMMARY
Atletico Madrid have an astonishing 3-0 lead at the interval, after a first half hat-trick from the seemingly unstoppable Falcao. The Colombian striker gave his side an early lead, sprinting beyond the Chelsea defence to clip the ball past Petr Cech in the 7th minute, before adding a peach of second just before the 20 minute mark, curling a beauty into the top corner from the edge of the penalty area. The Blues searched in vain for a route back into the match but were unable to find a way through the Atletico defence, their on-loan goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois untroubled throughout the opening 45 minutes. Falcao then added a third on the stroke of half time, finishing off a blistering counterattack with a low shot.

What a player. And what a first half showing from the Europa League holders. Atletico overwhelm the Blues on the counterattack, Arda Turan sliding the ball to FALCAO who threads a low shot past Petr Cech from a narrow angle. Chelsea are taking a hammering here. Chelsea 0, Atletico Madrid 3.

Mata's corner, aimed towards Fernando Torres, is headed clear. Now Madrid are bursting upfield once again...

It's the same old story for Chelsea, as a lengthy spell of possession in Atletico territory comes to naught. Atletico then attempt to counter, but Frank Lampard concedes a free kick for a clumsy tackle.
38' MAJESTIC MADRID
This has been a real exhibition by Los Rojiblancos; Atletico have been a cut above during this first half. Juan Mata and Eden Hazard have hardly had a kick for the Blues, and Lampard and Mikel have been unable to conjure anything from their deep-lying midfield positions.
35' OFF THE POST
How on earth did that stay out? Atletico squander two golden chances to extend their lead, as Turan's low cross finds Adrian Lopez unmarked at the back post. The Madrid forward has an unguarded net to aim at but somehow misses his kick, the ball bouncing up and cannoning onto his body. The chance then falls to Falcao who, perhaps surprised by his teammate's haplessness, manages to head against the frame of the goal before Chelsea finally hack clear.
33' NO WAY PAST
A sustained spell of Chelsea possession in the Atletico half as Juan Mata's cross, intended for Torres, is headed clear. Madrid are looking really solid at the back - the Blues just can't seem to find a way through the mass of red and white shirts.

Madrid win a free kick as Torres is penalised for barging into Suarez. Gabi delivers for Los Rojiblancos, but Cech punches clear.
29' CORNER - ATLETICO MADRID
Koke's outswinging corner is met by Mario Suarez, but Cech makes a comfortable save.

Petr Cech comes to the rescue for the Blues, making himself big and denying Gabi when one-on-one. It's a big let-off for the Blues, who found themselves with three defenders against five Madrid attackers.
28' FREE KICK
Chelsea win a free kick inside the Atletico half, which is played short. The ball is eventually worked to Mikel, but the midfielder dithers over his cross and is robbed of possession. Suddenly Madrid are racing upfield on the counter...
25' HITTING THE FRONTMAN
The Blues are starting to go direct, as Branislav Ivanovic pumps the ball into the Madrid penalty area from 40-yards out. Fernando Torres gets nowhere near it however, and Juanfran is able to nod clear.

Ramires eventually limps off to receive further treatment from the Chelsea physio.
21' INJURY WORRY
Ramires is down, appearing to injure himself in attempting to challenge Mario Suarez.
19' GOAL - FALCAO
Brilliant, just brilliant. Atletico double their lead as FALCAO picks up the ball on the edge of the penalty area and takes a touch before curling a shot which bends past Ashley Cole and David Luiz, beats Petr Cech and flies into the top corner. Madrid will be very pleased that the transfer window is closing in a matter of hours. Chelsea 0, Atletico Madrid 2.
16' ADRIAN EFFORT
Atletico win possession inside their own half and trigger a lightning-quick counterattack, working the ball wide to Adrian Lopez. The forward shoots from a narrow angle, but Cech is quick off his line to beat the ball away.
15' BUILDING AT THE BACK
Chelsea seem content to keep possession at the back as they feel their way into this match. When they do venture forwards Atletico are quick to press, crowding Hazard and Mata every time they receive the ball.
12' POSSESSION PLAY
That Falcao strike seems to have jolted Chelsea into life; the Blues have certainly seen more of the ball in the last three or four minutes. Eden Hazard tries his luck from 20-odd yards, firing a swerving shot wide of Thibaut Courtois' goal.
10' INTERCEPTED
Better from the Blues, as Ramires finds a yard of space in the Madrid penalty area. The Brazilian attempts to thread a ball through the six-yard box, but his cross is cut out at the front-post.
9' CAUGHT COLD
Atletico have rocketed out of the blocks in this one - Chelsea have hardly had a kick in the opening 10 minutes. How will the Blues respond to this early setback?
7' GOAL - FALCAO
That's a beautiful goal. Atletico take an early lead as FALCAO latches onto a through-ball and leaves David Luiz and Gary Cahill for dead before chipping a wonderful finish past Petr Cech, the ball clipping the base of the post on its way into the net. Chelsea 0, Atletico Madrid 1.
5' SAFELY GATHERED
More pressure from the Europa League winners, as Arda Turan hooks the ball back across goal from the far-post. Falcao manages to loop a header goalwards, but Cech is able to make a simple catch.

An early scare for Chelsea, as Falcao turns Filipe's low ball on to the underside of Petr Cech's crossbar from close range. Ashley Cole did his best to stay with the Colombian and may just have provided the vital distraction.

The Atletico fans are certainly making themselves heard, kicking up quite a din at the far end of the stadium. Madrid are attacking towards their supporters in this first half.

Daniel Sturridge is named on the Chelsea bench for this evening's match, so one would assume the 22-year-old will not be making the rumoured deadline day move to Anfield. Michael Essien may be on his way out of Stamford Bridge, however; Roberto Di Matteo, interviewed on television, has just said that the Ghana international could be allowed to leave on loan. Arsenal are rumoured to be interested in the former Lyon man, although the Italian pled ignorance when quizzed on the midfielder's possible destination.

Blues captain John Terry, who has returned to training after recovering from the neck injury that kept him out of the weekend victory over Newcastle, will miss tonight's final as he continues to serve the suspension resulting from the red card he picked up at the Nou Camp back in April. Atletico manager Diego Simeone is likely to name the same XI that started Monday's victory over Bilbao, including goalkeeper Thibault Cortois who has just started his second season at the Vicente Calderon on loan from Chelsea. Chelsea were Super Cup winners back in 1998, as a late Gus Poyet strike helped Gianluca Vialli's Blues defy pre-match predictions and sink the reigning European Champions Real Madrid. These sides have only met on two previous occasions, during the group stage of the 2009-10 Champions League.
