90' CELTIC 0 - 0 BENFICA
Celtic and Benfica shared the spoils at Parkhead as they battled to a goalless draw in the opening game of Group G. It was a game full of spirit but low on quality, and you'd expect Barcelona to cruise through this group on tonight's evidence – with the remaining three teams left to battle it out for the final place. A point is a solid start for Celtic, but they'll need more creativity in the games coming up if they are to stand a chance of reaching the last 16.

The final whistle goes to ensure that the game ends goalless at Parkhead.
90' MIKU CAN'T PICK THE PASS
Celtic charge forward and Miku has acres of space down the left. There are plenty of players up in support, but he fails to find one of them with his cut-back and the chance goes begging. Is this destined to end 0-0? Sure looks like it.
90' ADDED TIME
Charlie Mulgrew wastes three opportunities to get the ball into the box, but there's still time for a winner as the fourth official indicates three added minutes.
87' OVER THE BAR!
It's all Benfica in these last few minutes, and Oscar Cardozo goes close with a header that just clips the bar on its way over.
84' IT JUST WON'T DROP FOR CARDOZO
A blocked shot loops towards Oscar Cardozo, but there's so much spin on the ball that he can't trap it with his chest, allowing Fraser Forster to come off his line and get to the ball first. It's all getting very tense at Parkhead!

James Forrest goes down in the Benfica box, but the referee waves play on - much to the displeasure of the home team and supporters. On first viewing that looked like a decent shout, but replays show that Forrest went down after barely a touch and is perhaps fortunate to escape without a booking for diving.
78' TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE KEEPER
The crowd are furious as the whistle goes to signal a free-kick to Benfica. However, Thomas Rogne was all over the Benfica keeper, and you're not going to get away with that sort of thing in European competition.
74' OPTIMISTIC EFFORT
The Celtic defence is all over the place as Benfica opt for a short corner routine, and the Bhoys are very fortunate to escape with the ball. Without many options on the break and seeing the goalkeeper off his line, Kris Commons tries to lob the goalkeeper from just inside the half... and very nearly manages it! The look of relief on Artur Moraes' face tells you how close that was!
72' CURLING EFFORT BY CESAR
Substitute Bruno Cesar goes for goal with a curling shot from distance, but the ball just doesn't dip in time and lands on the roof of Fraser Forster's goal.
68' ANOTHER CHANGE FOR BENFICA
Rodrigo is replaced by Bruno Cesar as Jorge Jesus continues to shuffle his pack. The game is a lot more stretched since the break, with both teams recognising the need to pick up points. Neither team will realistically fancy picking up much from the two games against Barcelona and the away match in Moscow, so a win tonight would be a big help in the context of the group.
65' ATTACKING CHANGE
Emillio Izaguirre has been walking a tightrope after his booking, so it's little surprise to see him replaced. What is a surprise is the supremely attacking nature of the change, with Gary Hooper coming on.
62' BOTH TEAMS MAKE CHANGES
Benfica coach Jorge Jesus decides the time is right to introduce his main threat on the bench, replacing Pablo Aimar with the prolific Oscar Cardozo. Celtic also make a change, bringing on Thomas Rogne for Charlie Mulgrew.
61' TIPPED AROUND THE POST
Fraser Forster's reactions come to Celtic's rescue as he turns Ezequiel Garay's clever flicked header around the post. The second corner is punched clear by the keeper, but you sense that the momentum is swinging towards Benfica.
59' LACK OF CHANCES
Celtic have huffed and puffed, while Benfica have been limited to playing on the break, and it's made for a game that's seen very little notable action in either final third.
55' VERY FORTUNATE DEFENDING
Kelvin Wilson lets a long ball bounce, allowing Rodrigo a sniff. The defender's first touch is poor... and so is his second, so he gets off very lightly when he somehow emerges with the ball on the edge of his own box.

A Kris Commons corner is punched awkwardly clear, but Adam Matthews' follow-up shot is deflected over the bar. The second corner is cleared, but Benfica continue to look vulnerable in the air.
50' THE REF TAKES SOME STICK
Scott Brown is penalised for a push on Pablo Aimar as he looks to put pressure on the Benfica midfielder. It's probably the right decision, but that doesn't stop Brown from firing some choice language in the direction of the referee.
48' MULGREW STANDS TALL
Pablo Aimar's free-kick delivery is superb once again, but Charlie Mulgrew finally puts an end to some aerial pinball inside the box to head clear.
46' SECOND HALF
The second half is underway in Glasgow.
45' HALF-TIME
The whistle goes to end a fascinating first half. Celtic have given it everything, dominating for long periods, but Benfica's superior quality has seen them create the pick of the chances. A draw is the minimum requirement for the Bhoys if they are to stand much of a chance of making it out of the group, so expect a nervy second half.
42' FORSTER SAVES EASILY
Pablo Aimar's career never really hit the heady heights that it should have done, but he's still got serious quality at the age of 32, and a perfectly angled cross into the box really should result in a chance. As it is, every Benfica player misses it, allowing Fraser Forster to claim.
40' HUGE THREAT ON THE BREAK
A Celtic corner is easily cleared, and Benfica again have numbers over on the break. Kelvin Wilson does brilliantly to slide in and put the ball out for a throw as the last man in the Celtic defence, otherwise the visitors would have been clean through.
36' FLAG SAVES IZAGUIRRE'S BLUSHES
Emillio Izaguirre is robbed of possession in the centre of the park, and Benfica suddenly have numbers over as they charge towards the Celtic goal. The final pass to Rodrigo is slightly delayed, prompting the linesman's flag to go up, but Fraser Forster saves the shot in any case. That's a huge let-off!
33' YELLOW CARD
Emillio Izaguirre has struggled to deal with the threat of Pablo Aimar on the counter and picks up a deserved booking for a late challenge.
31' FORSTER TO THE RESCUE
Rodrigo beats the Celtic defence to a ball over the top and looks to slot his shot past Fraser Forster, only for the keeper to stand tall and make a crucial intervention.

Celtic are controlling the game and asking all of the questions, but until there's a goal you sense that this game will struggle to ever burst into life.
26' VULNERABLE AT SET-PIECES
Every time Celtic get the ball into the Benfica box there is a hint of a chance for the opening goal. The physical presence of the home side is too much for the visiting defence to handle, and you'd have thought that Neil Lennon would be asking his team to test that weakness as much as possible.

This Benfica side are decent going forward, but Celtic have strangled the creative side of the visitors so far this evening, limiting them to occasional counter-attacks and hopeful shots from distance.

Victor Wanyama takes one for the team to halt a Benfica break, picking up a yellow card.
16' COMMONS INFLUENCING PROCEEDINGS
Kris Commons is the most dangerous player on the pitch at the moment, drifting dangerously in the gap between Benfica's defence and midfield. The Portuguese side have been unable to keep tabs on him, and if Celtic are to grab a goal you'd expect Commons to be involved.
12' IN NEED OF A WIN
Considering that Celtic are facing daunting away trips to Lisbon and Moscow in this group, not forgetting the hefty challenge of two games against Barcelona, a win tonight is pretty much vital if Neil Lennon harbours any hopes of steering his side beyond the group stage.
9' TERRIFIC TACKLE
The ball is given away and Benfica players stream forward, but Victor Wanyama pulls off a terrific sliding tackle to regain possession for the home side. The crowd let the midfielder know how much they appreciate that sort of thing with a deafening roar.

So often outclassed at this level, Celtic have looked comfortable on the ball and ferocious without it. You'd expect the latter, but the quality that the Bhoys are showing is impressive.

A Celtic corner causes chaos inside the Benfica box and after a frantic scramble the visitors somehow hack the ball away to safety.

The home side have come out with a bang - as expected - and very nearly go into an early lead as Miku's snap-shot falls to the feet of Kris Commons in the box... only for his effort to be blocked.
