90' FULL TIME ANALYSIS
Manchester United seemed to have a banana skin on their hands when Pantelis Kapetanos turned home a low Modou Sougou cross to give the home side the lead with their first meaningful attack of the game. The inquest into how he was able to arrive unmarked will only serve to add to the reputation of United's suspect defensive performances so far this season. In truth though, it was only a matter of time before Sir Alex Ferguson's side turned their possession into goals, and, pleasingly, a first start for strike combination Wayne Rooney and Robin Van Persie saw the pair link up for United to turn it around. On 29 minutes, Rooney swung in a free kick and Van Persie rose to loop the ball over Mario Felgueiras in the Cluj goal with the ball coming off his shoulder. A more controlled and equally predatory finish from Van Persie after the break, this time from an exquisite Rooney pass over the top. He flicked the ball home on the volley after the Englishman saw his strike counterpart's run and flighted it perfectly into his path. That's seven in eight games for him, and though Rooney remains goalless United will not worry after a composed and dangerous attacking display in the hole behind Van Persie and Javier Hernandez. Cluj were wholly outplayed but could have snatched a point at the death as Rafael Bastos had a point blank header turned round the post. By no means simple for United, but comfortable after that initial scare.

Would you believe it, at the death David De Gea has preserved the United lead with a very smart stop to keep out a point blank header. How they would have rued not pressing more in this second half if that had gone in.

Three minutes of added time are marked by Danny Welbeck surging down the right and the effervescent Tom Cleverley arriving to support him.
90' KUNG FU FIGHTING
A horror show of their own for United as Luis Alberto felt the full force of a karate kick from Rio Ferdinand. Unintentional no doubt but he allowed Cluj to mount a final attempt to restore parity. A corner won is cleared though and the match is well and truly petering out now.
88' CLUJING YOU IN
In a final attempt to make up for my lack of puns tonight, I'd say the home side haven't really had a Cluj tonight. On their visit to Transylvania, United were bitten early and can Count themselves lucky that Robin Van Persie showed enough quality to stake a claim for man of the match. Complaints can be directed via the usual channels!

With ten minutes to go Wayne Rooney remains goalless this season. He has made two tonight though in an adventurous role he seems to have enjoyed. Danny Welbeck has come on for Javier Hernandez.

So Cluj shocked United after 15 minutes of almost complete away team dominance. A very poor defensive display to leave Pantelis Kapetanos alone 10 yards out to drill home a low cross. Since then normal service has been resumed and they're unlucky to go in with only Robin Van Persie's reply to their name. The Dutchman pushed the offside trap to its limit and arrived to meet Wayne Rooney's free kick which came off his shoulder to loop over Mario Felgueiras. Cluj are yet again losing out in all areas of the field but the concern will be for Sir Alex Ferguson that his side will face much better teams than this if they progress, and giving a goal of that nature away will not be so easy to cope with as the competition goes on.

As was expected Cluj have pace on the break, and if the game wears on, with a one-goal lead that can be very useful. Robin Van Persie threatens the home goal again though, narrowly wide. Still little cause for concern for United.

Manchester United have responded to their task and taken control again but Cluj looked to break too. Anderson and Rooney have both had tame efforts from range saved.
18' A SHOCK TO SAY THE LEAST
Here's two massive understatements: that was against the run of play, and that was shocking defending. Cluj had barely got over the halfway line in the first fifteen minutes and then a sole foray from two men managed to unhinge the United defence. Ferdinand and Evans were hopelessly lax in not picking up Kapetanos. Alan Hansen could not do justice to that one!

0' PREVIEW: CFR CLUJ VS. MANCHESTER UNITED, 19:45
It's by no means been a vintage start to the Premier League campaign for United, and their second loss in six games, on Sunday, saw a number of members of the old guard betraying cracks in the spine of the team. Failing to overhaul Tottenham, and giving Spurs their first win at Old Trafford since 1989, in a game that seemed to be heading inexorably towards another famous Fergie comeback, will be a cause for concern. Injuries in key positions have put the onus on the shoulders of the likes of Scholes, Giggs and Ferdinand to stand firm and weather the storm. None of them were anywhere to be seen though as Gareth Bale twice slit open their entire side to be the architect of their downfall . Where better to go and shake the cobwebs off, then, than Transylvanian minnows Cluj? CFR, who broke the Bucharest stranglehold on the Romanian title in 2008, are making their third appearance in the Champions League, never having advanced past the groups. They won away at Roma and held Chelsea on home turf four years ago though, so victory is no formality for the visiting side. Cluj were lower league strugglers in Romania until a cash injection from businessman Arpad Paszkany brought them promotion, title glory and a ground renovation. Their 23,000-capacity Constantin Radulescu Stadium is still new to big European nights, and backed by captain and talisman Ricardo Cadu, their side will hope to hit United on the counter and take a leaf out of Spurs' book. Boss Ioan Andone has said "CFR have a few players with experience in the Champions League, and we have the whole of Romania behind us." After thumping ACF Gloria 5-1 at the weekend, they will certainly not be short of confidence.

Illness has struck down both Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs, and Paul Scholes played the whole 90 minutes against Tottenham so has not travelled. Antonio Valencia has also not made the trip. Longer term problems persist for Nemanja Vidic, Ashley Young, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. Greek striker Pantelis Kapetanos has made it through a training session for Cluj so will likely start. Ioan Andone is expected to make one or two changes but maintain his favoured 4-4-1-1 formation.
