90' MANCHESTER CITY 2, AJAX 2.
Manchester City haven't got what they needed as they take only a point in a must-win game. They had to come back from a two-goal deficit and Yaya Toure gave them a platform to do so in the first half. City controlled the second half and Sergio Aguero got an equaliser for them with 15 minutes left. He thought he had another but the goal was wrongly disallowed for offside. More controversy ensued as in the final seconds City were denied a clear penalty when Mario Balotelli was dragged to the floor inside the area.
90' MORE CONTROVERSY AT THE DEATH
Manchester City have more reason to feel agrieved as Mario Balotelli is dragged to the floor by an Ajax defender. The ref takes a long look and the players think he's blown for a penalty but it's actually the final whistle - the players (and manager) surround the ref to complain but it wont change his mind. Manchester City 2, Ajax 2.
90' EVERYBODY UP
The keeper is going to take the late City free kick as all the other players pile into the area...
90' ERIKSEN SHOT
That would have been a real kick in the teeth for City, who have been denied a late winner by a wrong decision. Christian Eriksen's shot stings the fingertips of Joe Hart and Viktor Fischer has half a chance from the resulting corner but he can't make the most of it.
89' GOAL DISALLOWED
Edin Dzeko holds the ball up in the area and plays the overlap with Aleksandar Kolarov, whose cross is bundled in by Sergio Aguero. The momentary celebrations are halted as the flag is up against Kolarov. He looked at least level there and that looks like the wrong decision.
87' GREAT BALL IN FROM KOLOROV
The Ajax defence fail to close Aleksandar Kolarov down and the City winger is allowed to put an extremely dangerous drilled cross into the area. Edin Dzeko gets there first and all he needs is a touch but he tries to do too much and ends up putting it out for a goal kick.

Christian Poulsen is all over Mario Balotelli and is finally cautioned for his foul. Another good chance from a set piece is wasted, though.
83' FREE KICK COMES TO NOTHING
Ajax had been showing some good attacking movement of their own but a City counter-attack forced the visitors to concede a free kick, but Samir Nasri's delivery is easily cleared.
79' BALOTELLI HEADER
Samir Nasri crosses it in from a free kick and Mario Balotelli climbs highest, making good contact with the ball. Kenneth Vermeer is alert and flies across the goal to palm the powerful header away.

With Madrid losing to Dortmund, City's hopes could be rekindled if they take the three points tonight, and they're playing that way, frantically searching for the winning goal.

We're back at level-pegging and that equaliser was coming. Mario Balotelli heads it into the path of SERGIO AGUERO, who takes it first time in mid-air to drive the ball past a helpless Kenneth Vermeer.

Siem De Jong curls a 25-yard free kick round the wall; it's unclear whether or not it is goalbound but Joe Hart can't afford to take chances and palms it away firmly.

Ajax enjoy some nice possession on the edge of the City area and Ricardo Van Rhijn receives the ball in space. He delivers a wonderful cross, which skids across the turf. Pablo Zabaleta shows great awareness and composure to turn it behind for a fruitless corner.

Edin Dzeko is coming on for Carlos Tevez, who has been largely ineffective this evening. Dzeko has - much to his dislike - been labelled a 'super sub' and his manager desperately needs him to live up to that tag tonight.
63' NEAT FOOTWORK
Christian Eriksen shows great skill to turn out of the challenge of four surrounding blue shirts. The Ajax player, possibly a little sursprised at his neat footwork, rushes his shot and skews it wide.
60' ANOTHER SLIP FROM AGUERO
Sergio Aguero needs to change his boots as another super chance is spurned by an untimely slip. This time he beats Kenneth Vermeer to the ball but is forced wide. Yaya Toure and Carlos Tevez are waiting to tap it into an empty net but Aguero can't pick them out as he loses his footing on the edge of the box.
58' DE JONG SHOT
Ajax finally get the ball out of their half and Siem De Jong goes for an outrageous drive from distance to complete his hat-trick. Only an acrobatic Joe Hart denies him his third of the evening.
56' ALL CITY
It's all City now and the green shirts are camped in their own area. Surely it's only a matter of time before we see another goal here.
54' OFFSIDE
There are lengthy discussions before the free kick is taken. Eventually Yaya Toure is chosen to take it but his effort goes straight into the wall. It comes out to Gael Clichy, who shows great composure to dink it into the path of Sergio Aguero. Aguero's superb footwork allows him to touch it past the keeper into the goal but the flag is already up.
53' ANOTHER DANGEROUS FREE KICK
Manchester City are being persistent and Carlos Tevez wins another free kick in a much more dangerous position this time. He went over a little easily but the referee showed no hesitation.
50' CITY FREE KICK
Aguero shows great pace to open up space in front of him. Toby Alderweireld brings him down unfairly and the Argentinian adds a few rolls for effect before hobbling off for some treatment. The resulting free kick is cleverly chipped to Matija Nastasic at the back of the penalty area. His attempted volley is unsuccessful.
48' AGUERO SLIP
Sergio Aguero slips past Niklas Moisander and has options left and right but loses his footing at the crucial moment, allowing Ajax to clear the danger.
46' SECOND HALF UNDERWAY
The second half has kicked off. Manchester City have introduced Mario Balotelli, on for Javi Garcia. Balotelli changed the game at Swansea and he'll have to do the same tonight. Daley Blind is booked early on.
45' FIRST HALF SUMMARY
City's defensive vulnerability from set pieces has cost them dear as they concede two early goals; both from Siem De Jong and both from corners. Yaya Toure has given them a way back with an excellent volley from inside the area but the home side still have it all to do as they try to overturn a one-goal deficit in the second half.

43' MANCHESTER CITY SHORT OF IDEAS
Manchester City look very ordinary when coming forward, as they did against Swansea and West Ham. Roberto Mancini is looking as frustrated as his players - it looks like they are desperately missing the creative influence of David Silva.
36' TOURE SUSPENSION LOOMS
Yaya Toure is one yellow card away from suspension, which would see him miss a possibly crucial tie against Real Madrid. He pushes Christian Poulsen after losing the ball but he gets away with a talking-to from the ref.

Christian Eriksen plays a through ball to Ryan Babel, who forces Joe Hart to make a great save. The flag is up and it wouldn't have counted anyway. Minutes later, Siem De Jong's drilled 25-yarder travels wide of the right-hand post.
31' GOOD CHANCE FOR ZABALETA
City are building the pressure now and another cross is whipped in, this time from Gael Clichy. Pablo Zabaleta, who isn't expecting it to reach him, only manages a weak header and Kenneth Vermeer makes a comfortable save. The right-back was offside anyway.
28' OFF THE LINE
Manchester City break with great speed and Ajax are caught low on numbers. Samir Nasri puts the ball in the area and Pablo Zabaleta finally gets a shot away - the deflected effort is headed off the line but a free kick is given anyway, Gareth Barry's infringement denying his team a corner.
25' ANIMATED MANCINI
With a game as fast-paced as this, it would be hard for a manager not to get fired-up, especially when losing a must-win game. Yaya Toure is sold short by Gael Clichy and Mancini turns away in disgust but luckily for him, Ricardo Van Rhijn's cross is overhit and City regain possession.
23' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Well, after a series of hopeful long balls, City finally get some joy from their efforts. YAYA TOURE, who had been calling for ball for some time, finally receives it on his chest and whips it in with his right foot. Lifeline for City with plenty of time left to play.

20' MORE WEAK DEFENDING
It's woeful defending again from the set piece. This time Yaya Toure is the guilty man as he fails to keep tabs on the Ajax captain. Manchester City are trying to respond once more but Ajax deal with the lacklustre attack with ease.

Only 17 minutes played at the Etihad and City now have to score three to turn this game around. The second goal is also from a corner - Christian Eriksen's ball in is powered in by Ajax captain SIEM DE JONG at the near post.

16' CITY WASTEFUL
Manchester City are looking for some inspiration to get back into this game but a decent-looking attack is nipped in the bud as Carlos Tevez miscontrols it to relieve the pressure for Ajax.

That was awful defending from City and the mountain they have to climb has just grown even taller. There were eight blue shirts against only four Ajax players in the area for the corner.
10' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Matija Nastasic needlessly gives Ajax a very cheap corner indeed. Christian Eriksen delivers it, it takes a deflection and nobody claims it for City. SIEM DE JONG reacts fastest to stab home at the far post. Exactly what City didn't need and Pablo Zabaleta is receiving a mouthful from an infuriated Roberto Mancini.

Yaya Toure's strength affords City their first meaningful attack, releasing Carlos Tevez, who finds Sergio Aguero. Aguero's shot is deflected behind for the first corner of the game but Gareth Barry's delivery is easily caught by Kenneth Vermeer.
4' DETERMINED TEVEZ
Carlos Tevez has been a regular in the Premier League but not so much in the Champions League. Perhaps that is the key behind the struggle the Blues now face - Tevez shows great tenacity early on to run from side to side trying to close players down.

Ajax, playing in an unfamiliar green kit, give the ball straight to Ryan Babel, who leaves Vincent Kompany for dead but in doing so loses control and City emerge with the ball.

With no fresh injury concerns, Frank de Boer fields the same starting XI as when these two sides last met. Siem De Jong, Niklas Moisander and Christian Eriksen were the scorers that night and De Boer will be hoping for an equally impressive display this evening.

Matija Nastasic deputises for Joleon Lescott, as he did in the game against Swansea. Javi Garcia earns a start with James Milner sidelined. The regular duo of Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez will be the hopeful goal-grabbers tonight.

Roberto Mancini will have to save his European campaign with a depleted squad; Joleon Lescott is still out and James Milner will join him on the sidelines. Micah Richards is nowhere near a return after sustaining a knee injury against Swansea, and fellow right-back Maicon is also ruled out. Kolo Toure is unable to step in as he isn't registered for this competition. Elsewhere, Jack Rodwell and playmaker David Silva will be missed. The less injury-ridden Ajax are expected to line-up exactly the same as in their 3-1 win over Mancini's men less than two weeks ago.

Only a win will do for City tonight as the English champions lie at the bottom of Group D, six points adrift of leaders Dortmund. With only three games remaining in the group stages, Mancini has admitted his team's chances of progression are slender, saying "it will be a miracle". City suffered a 3-1 defeat in Amsterdam in their last European venture, and if they fail to beat the Dutch champions this evening, it will be another early exit for the Blues.
