CFR Cluj become the first away side to win at Old Trafford in three years thanks to a crackerjack of a strike from Brazilian Luis Alberto in the second half. Despite the win, the Romanian side miss out on the knockout stages of the Champions League after Galatasaray's win at Braga. Paulo Sergio's team must settle for a spot in the Europa League. Manchester United were a shadow of their normal selves and must now pick themselves up for Sunday's massive derby clash.

No goals at Old Trafford in the opening 45 minutes and CFR Cluj will be delighted with the scoreline because they know they'll be heading through if things stay this way and Braga defeat Galatasaray. Mario Felgueiras has been a busy man in the visitors' goal, making vital stops from Javier Hernandez and Wayne Rooney. Modou Sougou and Rafael Bastos have been United's main threat.

Sadly for Tom Cleverley, he's picked up and injury and the midfielder walks straight down the tunnel which will worry Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of Sunday's big Manchester derby. Veteran Paul Scholes comes on in his place.

The England international attempts a sublime chip from the right edge of the penalty area which is heading for the top corner, but Mario Felgueiras tips the ball over the crossbar for a corner.

David De Gea shows quick hands to pick up Ionut Rada's header from the Cluj corner and he gets the Red Devils moving again with a quick throw.

In the other game in the group, the Portuguese side are doing Paulo Sergio's Cluj side a favour as they lead Galatasaray 1-0. Now all the Romanians have to do is hold on at Old Trafford.

David De Gea is unhappy with the ball and asks Italian referee Daniele Orsato for a new one and the Spaniard gets his wish. Hopefully, that might be the spark United need!

The reigning Romanian champions are coming to Old Trafford to win and they're keeping the ball well enough in the middle of the park as Nick Powell goes to ground with a shoulder injury.

Rafael Bastos attempts an audacious long-range effort, but is denied by the tough tackling Ryan Giggs of all people, who makes a superb block and Bastos is in need of some medical attention.

Some comical defending by Manchester United almost gifts the visitors the lead but David De Gea comes to the rescue as keeps Rui Pedro's low drive away with his feet for a corner.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to freshen things up for this dead rubber. Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Alexander Buttner are all hopeful of being given an outing along with Nick Powell and Scott Wootton while Nani (hamstring) and Antonio Valencia (hip) will miss out along with skipper and defensive cornerstone Nemanja Vidic who, despite training at Carrington on Tuesday has still not recovered from knee surgery. Cluj boss Paulo Sergio will be without injured Bakary Sare (broken leg) and striker Ronny (ligaments), while Ciprian Deac and Adam Vass have returned from injury for the Railwaymen, but both are ineligible tonight.

Daniele Orsato - The 37-year-old Italian from Montecchio in the province of Vicenza has taken charge of 12 matches in all competitions this season, dishing out 53 yellow cards, 39 of which have been in Serie A, 10 in European competition and four in World Cup qualification games. He's only shown one red card this term - to Pablo Barrientos in the match between Catania and AC Milan. Orsato's already taken charge of two Champions League group games this term, which were FC Porto's 2-0 win at Dinamo Zagreb and Olympiakos' 2-1 victory at Montpellier. Two away wins, so will that prove a good omen for CFR? Another interesting stat is that Orsato was appointed referee for the 2012 Romanian Cup final between city rivals Dinamo Bucharest and Rapid Bucharest.
0' THE PERMUTATIONS
CFR currently sit level on seven points with Galatasaray after eliminating Braga on matchday five thanks to Rui Pedro's first-half hat-trick. However, they have an inferior head-to-head record and must therefore achieve a better result than the Turks manage in Portugal if they are to reach the knockout stages of the competition for the very first time. Whatever happens though, the Transylvanian side are guaranteed at least third place and Europa League qualification.
