Barcelona vs. AC Milan
Minute Commentary
90' HISTORY BOYS
For the first time ever in UEFA Champions League history a team has come from a 2-0 first leg deficit to win the tie and that team are Barcelona! The Catalans produced a phenomenal second leg display at the Camp Nou to record a handsome 4-0 victory on the night against AC Milan. They wiped out the Italians' lead in the opening 45 minutes. Lionel Messi lit the blue touch paper in the fifth minute by curling a wonderful left-foot curler past Christian Abbiati from the edge of the area. The Italians came inches from restoring parity on the night when Mbaye Niang struck the post and moments later they were made to pay for their profligacy just 68 seconds later as Messi bagged his 53rd goal of the season sending the ball through the legs of Philippe Mexes and past a bewildered Abbiati. The Catalans added a third in the 55th minute with a cool finish from David Villa before they finished the Italians off thanks to full-back Jordi Alba, who made a sublime 70-yard run in stoppage time, before calmly slotting home.
90' FULL-TIME
Barcelona progress through to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals after beating AC Milan 4-0 at the Camp Nou and 4-2 on aggregate.
90' GAME OVER
Alexis Sanchez finds Jordi Alba - who must have made a 70-yard run - and he slips the ball beyond Christian Abbiati for a piece of Champions League history.
90' GOOOAAALLL!!!
JORDI ALBA
90' STOPPAGE TIME
We've got THREE added minutes at the Camp Nou. Is there one more chance for AC Milan?
89' FLAG UP
Bojan Krkic's cross finds Stephan El Shaarawy - who is clearly onside - but the flag goes up on the far side incorrectly.
87' ITALIAN PRESS
Jordi Alba seems to be the one alert Barcelona defender as he comes across to send the ball out for a throw. Adriano gets up to head away, but the Italians are pressing. Is it too late?
85' BARCA NERVES
The Catalans are starting to show a few nerves now and stand-in coach Jordi Roura responds by sending on Adriano for Pedro which kills a few more seconds.
83' GREAT CHALLENGE
Sulley Muntari tries to burst through the heart of the Barcelona backline, but he is blocked off. Bojan Krkic's cross finds Robinho, but Jordi Alba comes across to make a superb last-ditch tackle on the Brazilian.
81' VILLA THE DIFFERENCE
As we head into the final ten minutes it'll be interesting to see whether Barcelona get a bit nervous. That goal from David Villa early in this second half is the aggregate difference.
79' PUYOL COMES ON
What an irony that would be of Bojan Krkic scored for AC Milan. He needs a chance first! Jordi Alba's fine run is cut out for a corner and now Carles Puyol comes on in place of Javier Mascherano. He'll slot in at centre-back.
76' MORE CHANGES
Lionel Messi's free-kick hits the wall and now Barcelona make a change. David Villa is replaced by Alexis Sanchez. Meanwhile, Mathieu Flamini comes off for former home town favourite Bojan Krkic for AC Milan.
74' KEEP BALL
Lionel Messi wins his side a free-kick in a central position and 25 yards from goal after being felled by Cristian Zapata.
72' BOATENG OFFSIDE
David Villa sends his shot towards goal, however, it takes a deflection and Christian Abbiati thumps the ball downfield but Kevin-Prince Boateng comes from an offside position.
70' SHAKY DEFENDING
Ignazio Abate's right-wing cross causes havoc in the Barcelona box with Mathieu Flamini's touch sending the ball goalwards, but the home side manage to scramble clear.
67' LOVELY CROSS
AC Milan's last victory against Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the Champions League was in September 2000. Since then, they've had two draws and two defeats. Ignazio Abate's delicious right-foot cross is too good for his teammates and zips away for a throw to the home side.
64' ANOTHER FOUL
The free-kick is just about cleared and now Andres Iniesta is brought down by Riccardo Montolivo on halfway.
62' JUST OVER
Lionel Messi hits an early effort which flies just over the crossbar and now Sulley Muntari brings down the little magician.
60' MILAN CHANGES
Head coach Massimiliano Allegri makes a double change. Robinho and Sulley Muntari replace Massimo Ambrosini and Mbaye Niang.
58' MILAN MUST SCORE
The seven-time European champions are reeling and must clear their heads because they now must try and find a goal to rescue this tie.
56' EASY THREE
Barcelona lead 3-0 on the night and 3-2 on aggregate. Kevin Constant dives in looking to cut out Xavi's pass and that allows David Villa to take his time and slot his right-foot shot into the far corner.
55' GOOOAAALLL!!!
DAVID VILLA
55' MEXES CARDED
Philippe Mexes brings down Lionel Messi and now the Frenchman is booked by referee Viktor Kassai and he too would miss the quarter-final first leg should AC Milan get through.
54' VOLLEYED WIDE
Mbaye Niang's cross deflects off Jordi Alba and out for a corner. The ball into th box is volleyed wide of the mark by Kevin-Prince Boateng, who is not afraid to have a go.
52' CROWDED OUT
Massimo Ambrosini trips Lionel Messi on the halway line and seconds later David Villa is crowded out. The Spanish striker has had a quiet game, but is working hard making runs down the line to make room for Messi.
50' COMFORTABLE SAVE
A mistake from Kevin Constant allows Lionel Messi to glide past him and Cristian Zapata before going for his hat-trick, but Christian Abbiati makes a comfortable stop.
48' CHANGE OF APPROACH
Barcelona are on a 19-match unbeaten run at Camp Nou in the Champions League. Milan seem to have changed their approach slightly as they look to push up and try and hold a higher line.
46' HERE WE GO AGAIN
We were all left mesmerised by that sensational first-half display by Barcelona, but what will this second half bring us? Of the 63 goals Milan have scored this season in all competitions, 44 have come after half-time and their last seven goals in the Champions League have all been in the second-half. Meanwhile, Barcelona have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six knockout games in this competition at Camp Nou.
45' BARCA ON LEVEL TERMS
Barcelona and Lionel Messi produced a scintillating first-half display in the Camp Nou to wipe out AC Milan's first leg lead. The little Argentine lit the blue touch paper in the fifth minute by curling a wonderful left-foot curler past Christian Abbiati from the edge of the area. If the Catalans continue the way they're playing, they'll be hot favourites to reach the last eight of the UEFA Champions League.
45' HALF-TIME
Barcelona lead AC Milan 2-0 on the night and we're level at 2-2 on aggregate in this UEFA Champions League last-16 second leg tie.
45' FLAMINI BOOKED
Mathieu Flamini would also miss a quarter-final fist leg after hacking down Pedro.
43' PEDRO BOOKED
Pedro has been shown a yellow card for a late tackle which would rule him out of a quarter-final first leg should Barcelona make it. They seem well on their way if they keep playing this incredible style of football which is bewildering.
41' MESSI DOES IT AGAIN
Andres Iniesta hands Lionel Messi the ball on the edge of the area and the little man only needs half a yard to fire his left-foot shot through the legs of Philippe Mexes and past Christian Abbiati in an instant. We're level on aggregate!
40' GOOOAAALLL!!!
LIONEL MESSI
40' OFF THE POST
Amazingly Mbaye Niang comes inches away from handing AC Milan an equaliser in the Camp Nou. He is set clear before strikng the far post with a right-foot effort.
39' GIFT FROM NIANG
Mbaye Niang gifts Barca possession, but Andres Iniesta's through ball is overhit and David Villa can't time his run. Moments later Dani Alves' cross is cut out for another corner to the hosts.
36' SHOT ON TARGET
Massimo Ambrosini's pass picks out the run of Stephan El Shaarawy and he is allowed time and space to cut outside before trying to curl the ball past Victor Valdes, but he fails to get enough pace on his effort.
34' FRUSTRATING PASS
The Blaugrana are camped in the Milan half until Cristian Zapata wins the ball before playing a lazy pass to Stephan El Shaarawy, who throws his arms up in the air to show his frustration.
32' SPECTACULAR SHAARAWY
Good move from Milan this time as Kevin-Prince Boateng finds Mbaye Niang and his cross picks out Stephan El Shaarawy in the area, but the striker attempts the spectacular and fails to connect.
30' CHANGE OF SHIRT
Kevin Constant buys his team a bit of respite after being felled. Meanwhile, Mathieu Flamini has had to go off the field to change his shirt before being told to stay off by referee Viktor Kassai until he says he can come back on. Funnily enough, as soon as the goal-kick is taken, the Hungarian waves the Frenchman back on.
28' MILAN POSSESSION
The Rossoneri keep the ball for more than three passes, but the move breaks down as Riccardo Montolivo's attempted through ball is cut out. Lionel Messi is back helping his defenders.
26' FLAMINI IN THE WARS
The game has calmed down in the last five minutes, that is until Dani Alves' cross is glanced wide by Pedro. Meanwhile, Mathieu Flamini is being bandaged up on the touchline after suffering a head injury.
24' BOATENG IN THE BOOK
Kevin-Prince Boateng is shown a yellow card by referee Viktor Kassai for fouling Andres Iniesta. A needless tackle!
22' FREE-KICK
Kevin-Prince Boateng smashes the ball upfield. It's a case of anywhere will do for the Italians. Massimo Ambrosini brings down Lionel Messi wide right. Andres Iniesta tries to pass the ball through the wall, but Milan are allowed to clear.
20' ONE-WAY TRAFFIC
Everytime Milan look to play the ball forward, it's immediately cut out. Andres Iniesta's delicious pass is turned behind by Massimo Ambrosini.
18' FINE SAVE
The ball into the box is met by Cristian Zapata before Barca clear. At the other end Christian Abbiati's wild slide misses man and ball, but he gets lucky. Seconds later the keeper throws himself to his left to get a hand onto Xavi's fierce drive.
16' CORNER TO MILAN
Kevin-Prince Boateng's surge up the pitch is stopped and now Mbaye Niang wins Milan a corner.
15' OFF THE CROSSBAR
Andres Iniesta's right-foot volley from the egde of the area is touched onto the woodwork by the diving Christian Abbiati and then Lionel Messi heads the ball into the side netting.
13' PENALTY SHOUT
There's a coming together in the Milan area between Ignazio Abate and Pedro, but referee Viktor Kassai waves play on.
11' TOO MUCH ROOM
Dani Alves is finding all sorts of space down the right-hand side of the pitch and Barcelona are first to everything at the moment. The home supporters are right behind them.
9' MILAN CHANCE
That's the perfect start for stand-in coach Jordi Roura's side. They look like a team possessed until a long ball is collected by Stephan El Shaarawy, but he scuffs his right-foot shot towards goal after running too wide and Victor Valdes collects.
6' MAGNIFICENT MESSI
Lionel Messi has lit the blue touch paper at the Camp Nou with his 52nd goal of the season and what a goal! He collects the ball on the edge of the area before curling a wonderful left-foot curler past Christian Abbiati.
5' EARLY POSSESSION
Massimo Ambrosini finds Kevin-Prince Boateng, but his ball down the line finds nobody. We're going to see Barcelona have plenty of possession, it's just what they do with it that counts. Sergio Busquets is felled by former Portsmouth man Boateng on halfway.
4' MASS GREETING
The Barca fans greeted the teams with a mosaic which read Som un Equip! which means 'We're a team!' and it's been six years since they last failed to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League. Milan are already sitting back and allowing the home side to come onto them.
2' MIRROR IMAGE
AC Milan have matched Barcelona's 4-3-3 system, but it will be interesting to see who will be their main target man as they defend this 2-0 first leg lead. If the hosts don't score an early goal, they might adopt an even more attacking formation by allowing their full-backs to push up to make a midfield five. The Rossoneri will hope to shut up shop in from the opening minute and it's likely they will adopt the same approach as in the San Siro by playing narrow and holding a line on the edge of the area. I'm getting ahead of myself here. Let's see how things develop!
1' WE'RE UNDERWAY
Barcelona are wearing their Blaugrana kit (blue and red) while Milan are wearing their white away kit with red trim. The Catalans have not lost a European tie at the Camp Nou for more than three years and they have already beaten Milan in last season's quarter-finals and in the 2006 semi-finals. The good news for the Rossoneri is that they have scored at least once in each of their last nine games. The pitch is in immaculate condition as always and has been watered right up until kick-off to give it an extra zip. We have a full house in the magnificent Camp Nou - 98,000 for this clash of the titans.
0' BARCA TEAM NEWS
Xavi is fit for Barcelona and will play alongside Andres Iniesta and Sergio Busquets in midfield, but Carles Puyol is out after picking up an injury at the weekend and can only make the bench. Javier Mascherano steps into for the 34 year-old and will play with Gerard Pique at centre-back. World Player of the Year Messi leads the attack, hoping to add to his 51 goals in 41 games this season with David Villa and Pedro in support. Former Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas has been left on the bench.
0' MILAN TEAM NEWS
France international Philippe Mexes has passed a late fitness test to start in defence. The now-fit again Mathieu Flamini enters the arena in place of Sulley Muntari, who is back on the bench, while M'Baye Niang gets a starting berth in place of injured striker Giampaolo Pazzini.

0' MATCH PREVIEW
Barcelona need to avoid over-exuberance if they are to overturn a two-goal deficit in tonight's Champions League clash at home to AC Milan. The Blaugrana host the Rossoneri after suffering a surprise reverse in last month's last-16, first leg at the San Siro and were left reeling after being dumped out of the King's Cup and beaten in La Liga by arch rivals Real Madrid. They are still 13 points clear at the top of Spain's domestic league but their hopes of a third European crown in five years are hanging by a thread. No side has ever managed to overturn a 2-0 first leg deficit in this round without having the benefit of an away goal, leaving Barca needing to rewrite the history books. Milan are unbeaten in Serie A in 2013, winning seven and drawing three. Head coach Massimiliano Allegri was thankful to Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari for handing them such a handsome advantage heading into this clash. And the seven-time European champions will most likely adopt 'catenachio' Italian style defending and look to pounce on the counter-attack in order to advance through. But whatever happens, we're bound to be in for a nail-biting climax to this tie!
0' CESC BELIEVES
Cesc Fabregas believes the Catalans must perform at their maximum to have an opportunity of overturning the deficit. "The desire this club has to win the Champions League is enormous and we will all perform at 100 percent," the former Arsenal captain told a news conference. "But it's not necessary to start the match at full throttle. Over-excitement is not good. We have to be intelligent as it's not just about playing with the heart. The head will be important too. This team has always performed at key moments. It's the motivation, the desire, the confidence to say if we play well and win it will be an incredible boost in morale."
0' ROURA ROARED
Interim coach Jordi Roura, deputising while Tito Vilanova undergoes cancer treatment, warned his men are up for the fight. "We are very clear how we will play against Milan, and how they want to play us. We are psyched," he said after Saturday's home win.
0' EARLY BARCA TEAM NEWS
Playmaker Xavi is fit for the clash after recovering from a thigh problem. Goalkeeper Victor Valdes returns from a domestic ban, while stand-in coach Jordi Roura will also recall several players who were rested for the 2-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna at the weekend including Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Jordi Alba.
0' INTO THE LIONS DEN
AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has called on the Rossoneri to be wary of three-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi, but believes the team will be ready for the challenge in the daunting Camp Nou. He told the club's official website: "We can't go into the game thinking we'll be fine just because we've got a two-goal advantage. We are going up against the strongest team in the world who have a monster like Leo Messi who scores all the time. Let's hope he takes it easy on Tuesday night. One thing is certain - it will be another great challenge, an infinitely difficult challenge. It's always nice to play Barcelona but we will be going into an incredibly heated atmosphere."
0' EARLY MILAN TEAM NEWS
Striker Giampaolo Pazzini - who has 13 Serie A goals to his name this term - has not made the trip to Spain after suffering a micro-fracture to his fibula in Friday's 2-0 win at Genoa. M'Baye Niang, Bojan Krkic and Robinho will be vying to replace the Italy international in the starting line-up. French defender Philippe Mexes could be replaced by Mattia De Sciglio if he fails a late fitness test but first-leg goalscorers Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sulley Muntari are cleared to start in midfield, while Mario Balotelli is cup-tied.
0' MATCH OFFICIALS
The referee in charge of this encounter is Viktor Kassai from Hungary. The 37 year-old works as a travel agent in his native contry and his progress to UEFA's list of Elite referees has ensured plenty of opportunities to broaden his horizons still further. His assistants for the night are Gabor Eros and Gyorgy Ring while his additional assistants behind the goal are Tamas Bognar and Mihaly Fabian. The fourth official is Robert Kispal while the UEFA delegate is Sune Hellstromer from Sweden. Jaap Uilenberg from Holland is UEFA's referee observer.
