CLUJ, Romania (AP) Galatasaray won its first away Champions League match in 10 years by defeating CFR Cluj 3-1 thanks to a hat trick by Burat Yilmaz on Wednesday.
Yilmaz beat goalkeeper Mario Felgueiras with a glancing header from 12 meters out in the 18th minute. His second goal came after a defensive error by Cluj's defense in the 62nd, finishing with his right foot after being set up by Hamit Altintop. The striker finished the scoring with a nine-meter shot in the 74th.
Cluj winger Modou Sougou had earlier made it 1-1 with a 53rd-minute goal from a shot that hit the crossbar and went into the net to reward a second-half period of dominance by Cluj.
Galatasaray is second in Group H on goal difference from Cluj with both teams on four points, eight behind Manchester United, which went through after a 3-1 victory at Braga.
Galatasaray dominated possession by 63 to 37 percent, preventing Cluj from creating many scoring chances.
Newly appointed Cluj coach Paul Sergio called it "a very bad result for my debut," saying his team had missed "seven or eight chances and allowed goals due to defensive errors. My players made infantile mistakes."
Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera praised his team's victory.
"We deserve the goals and are satisfied with the results," Muslera said.
