Chievo fires Di Carlo; hires Corini as new manager

VERONA, Italy (AP) Chievo Verona has fired Domenico Di Carlo two days after a humiliating 4-1 loss to Palermo, and hired Eugenio Corini as its new manager.

Di Carlo coached Chievo to a 10th-place finish in Serie A last season but in its opening six matches in this campaign the Verona squad has won once and lost five to stand third from the bottom.

Palermo forward Fabrizio Miccoli scored from near midfield against Chievo on Sunday in one of the most astounding goals of the season.

Corini, a former midfielder for Chievo and Palermo, was handed his first head coaching job in the top division, having guided Crotone and Frosinone in the lower divisions.

It's the second coaching change in Serie A this season, after Giampiero Gasperini replaced Giuseppe Sanino two weeks ago.
