Genoa fined and Sculli banned over fans protest

ROME (AP) Genoa has been fined 30,000 and former player Giuseppe Sculli was suspended for a month after last season's match against Siena was halted by fans.

Genoa players stripped off their shirts in a gesture of apology to angry, flare-throwing fans as their protests forced a 45-minute suspension of the team's 4-1 loss to Siena on April 22.

The match only restarted following impassioned pleas to the fans by Sculli, who also negotiated with the leader of the ultras.

However, Sculli has been banned for a month by the federation's disciplinary commission after he was found to have lied to the prosecutors and to have known about the protest before the match.

Sculli currently plays for Lazio.
