Queens Park Rangers vs. Swansea City
Minute Commentary
90' FIVE STAR SWANS STUN QPR
Swansea City blew away the pre-season optimism around Loftus Road in 90 minutes with a stunning 5-0 win - their record margin of victory away from home in the top flight. QPR started brightly, with Junior Hoilett, Ji-Sung Park and Adel Taarabt causing problems, but an error by goalkeeper Rob Green allowed summer signing Michu to open the scoring for the visitors. The Swans twice hit the bar before going in 1-0 up at the break, but Michu soon bagged a second after the restart. Two stunning moves saw Nathan Dyer also bag himself a brace, before sub Scott Sinclair added a fifth to complete a perfect afternoon for new manager Michael Laudrup. QPR will have a lot of thinking to do after this, but for Swansea it's a case of carrying on from where they left off last season. At Loftus Road it finished Queens Park Rangers 0, Swansea City 5!
90' FULL-TIME
The final whistle puts an end to QPR's misery on the opening afternoon of the new season. 5-0!
90' WHAT A START FOR LAUDRUP!
He was one of the best footballers of his generation, but there were those who doubted that Laudrup was the right appointment for Swansea. They may yet be proven to be correct, but this has been the perfect start for the new man. Solid at the back under intense pressure early on, the Swans have been irresistible since then and fully deserve the three points.
88' OLE FOOTBALL
QPR are on the ropes and Mark Hughes' facial expression says all you need to know. Swansea are really enjoying themselves at Loftus Road, with the fans cheering every pass and every tackle.
84' MICHU MAKES WAY
The excellent Michu is replaced in midfield after a debut to remember. On this evidence Swansea have found a bit of a gem to replace the departed Gylfi Sigurdsson and Joe Allen.
82' GOOOAAALLL!!!
A loose pass in defence gifted Michu possession, who found Scott Sinclair in space. The reportedly want-away winger twisted and turned before dispatching a stunning shot past Rob Green and into the bottom corner. 5-0!
81' GOOOAAALLL!!!
Scott Sinclair makes it five with a terrific strike. Yes, 5-0!
79' STAT ATTACK
This is the first time in their history that Swansea have scored four goals away from home in the top-flight (thanks again to @STATS_Football).
76' CHANGE FOR SWANSEA
Scott Sinclair replaces two-goal hero Nathan Dyer, who predictably receives a standing ovation from the travelling Swansea fans.
75' UNTAPPED POTENTIAL AT QPR
They started so brightly, but this has been a pretty humiliating start to the season for Queens Park Rangers. There's clearly talent going forward, but Hughes will need to sort out his defence sharpish if they are going to do anything of note this season.
70' MORE ON THAT GOAL!
A wonderful through-ball with his first touch by Kemy Agustien picked out the run of Dyer, who had beaten a rather dodgy offside trap. The winger's finish was emphatic and his joyous celebration summer up just what this means to a Swansea side who have lost their manager and key players over the summer.
69' GOOOAAALLL!!!
Nathan Dyer scores again for Swansea to make it 4-0 and add to the humiliation of Mark Hughes' star-studded QPR side.
68' CHANGE FOR SWANSEA
The excellent Jonathan De Guzman is replaced by Kemy Agustien after making a huge impact on his debut.
63' MORE ON THAT GOAL!
A lightning break was launched by Wayne Routledge, and the impressive winger did well to thread a pass through to Dyer on the other side of the pitch. Faced with a clear run into the area and covering defenders some way away, the wide man stretched his legs and cantered into the box before drilling a shot past the keeper and into the bottom corner. It's a clinical strike and sums up Swansea's superb counter-attacking display this afternoon. 3-0!
62' GOOOAAALLL!!!
Nathan Dyer makes it 3-0 to Swansea and that is surely game over.
58' WORRYING SIGNS FOR QPR
They've been excellent going forward, but with this kind of defensive performance and lack of protection from midfield QPR are always going to have problems keeping clean sheets.
53' MORE ON THAT GOAL!
Michu was the top scoring midfielder in La Liga last season (thanks again to @STATS_Football) and he already has two in his Premier League account less than an hour into his Swansea debut. Wayne Routledge was the man who set up the chance, and this time it was a classy finish by Michu rather than a howler by Green. 2-0!
52' GOOOAAALLL!!!
Michu bags his second of the afternoon to make it 2-0 to Swansea. What a debut!
50' STAT ATTACK
@STATS_Football have revealed that Swansea have never won at QPR and had scored just one goal in their last five visits to Loftus Road. Can they end that alarming trend?
46' NO PENALTY!
Junior Hoilett is again at the centre of anothing piercing QPR attack, but he fails to win his side a penalty after going to ground a little too easily in the Swansea area.
46' SECOND HALF
The second half is underway at Loftus Road, with QPR going in search of an equaliser and Swansea looking to build on their impressive showing towards the end of that first 45.
45' HALF-TIME
The whistle goes to bring a fascinating first half to an end. Swansea lead 1-0 and have hit the bar twice, but QPR have been far from overrun. More of the same please!
44' PANIC IN THE QPR DEFENCE
QPR are all over the place at the back, and Michu holds his head in his hands after hitting the bar from close range. Chico could easily have tucked away the follow-up, only to see his effort blocked. Swansea have been ripped apart at times in this first half, yet it is they who lead and they who have created the pick of the chances.
41' YELLOW CARD
Jonathan De Guzman picks up a booking for dragging down Adel Taarabt as the midfielder attempts to launch a counter-attack.
39' OFF THE BAR!
Swansea go close to making it 2-0. Chico rises high to meet a Jonathan De Guzman corner, and his towering header crashes off the underside of the bar and is only just scrambled to safety by a panicking QPR defence.
34' PROMISING SIGNS FROM ADEL
He's a real talent and a hugely frustrating individual, but the signs are there that Adel Taarabt may just be getting his act together. After what has been described as a very strong pre-season he looks very fit, and his control of the attacking side of Rangers' game is very promising indeed.
30' IMPROVEMENT FOR SWANSEA
QPR started the game so brightly that they could have put it to bed by now, but as it is Swansea lead through that slightly fortunate goal and are beginning to get hold of the ball and control things a little better.
26' GREAT GAME
It's a great game at Loftus Road. We all know the sort of quality that Swansea try to play with, but QPR are also playing with a great deal of attacking intent, and it's making for a fitting season opener.
22' JUST WIDE!
Junior Hoilett gets his head to a long punt into the area ahead of the charging goalkeeper, but his effort glances just wide of the post. To be fair to the youngster that was a tricky chance, but the pressure continues to build on the Swansea goal.
20' SWANSEA HANGING ON
The visitors are getting run ragged by QPR's host of attacking talent, and it seems only a matter of time before the equaliser. Park, Taarabt and Hoilett are finding way too much space in the final third.
15' STUNNING EFFORT BY HOILETT
They may be behind, but QPR are the better side here. Adel Taarabt is running the show, and in Junior Hoilett the have a touch of class. The new signing very nearly grabs an equaliser with a stunning drive after cutting in from the left, but Michel Vorm was relieved to see the shot fizz wide of his far post.
11' WHAT A SAVE!
Michel Vorm keeps Swansea ahead with a stunning reaction save. After parrying a stinging drive by Adel Taarabt, it looked inevitable that Jamie Mackie would tuck home the loose ball, but the keeper got to it sharply and cleared it away with the help of a covering defender. Superb stuff!
10' MORE ON THAT GOAL!
It's the first goal of Brian Laudrup's tenure and a bit of a gift for Swansea. It was a very speculative effort by the new midfielder as the ball fell to him on the edge of the box, but a bit of a howler by Rob Green in the QPR goal saw the shot creep inside the post. 1-0!
8' GOOOAAALLL!!!
Michu scores the first goal of the Premier League season at Loftus Road. 1-0 Swansea!
6' ATTACKING INTENT
Again it is the hosts who provide the attacking quality to an evenly balanced encounter in the early stages. This time it's the new skipper who gets in to the box and looks to cut back for Djibril Cisse, only to see his cross cut out.
3' STRONG START FOR QPR
The hosts have made the stronger start, with summer loan addition Fabio heavily involved down the left. His cross into the area was comfortably cut out by the Swansea defence, but it's already clear that Rangers are going to be getting plenty of width from full-back.
0' KICK-OFF
The Premier League season is underway at Loftus Road, with the London ground bathed in bright sunshine.
0' TEAM NEWS
Ji-Sung Park captains QPR in his first game for the club, while Robert Green, Fabio and Junior Hoilett all start. Swansea's new boss has included new additions Michu, Jonathan De Guzman and Chico, but there is no sign of Scott Sinclair in the starting line-up.
0' STAY TUNED
It should be a fascinating match at Loftus Road. Stay tuned for team news and live text commentary.
0' QPR V SWANSEA
It's been a very busy summer at Loftus Road. Following that last-gasp survival, the owners have backed manager Mark Hughes in the transfer window – to great effect. Rob Green, Park Ji-Sung, Andy Johnson, Ryan Nelsen, Jose Bosingwa, Fabio and Junior Hoilett are all new additions, and with Alejandro Faurlin coming back from injury there will be plenty of quality going forward. Whether it will be enough for a top half finish remains to be seen. Swansea City have also had a summer of turmoil, although a rather less positive one. Brendan Rodgers' departure to Liverpool was followed by the exit of key midfielders Joe Allen and Gylfi Sigurdsson and the on-loan Spurs defender Steven Caulker. However, with the legendary Michael Laudrup at the helm and a squad that still has plenty of talent, another strong season is more than possible.
0' THE PREMIER LEAGUE IS BACK!
It's just 14 weeks since that stunning conclusion to the last Premier League season. In that time we've seen a superb Euro 2012 and Bradley Wiggins lead Team Sky to Tour de France glory. There's also been a little bit of sport going on in London recently, but you may not have noticed. Despite all of that terrific summer sport and the inevitable comparisons with the English national game, the excitement is still there for the start of a fascinating new season… and we'll have live text commentary of every single game.
