Swansea City vs. West Ham United
Minute Commentary
90' FT: SWANSEA 3 WEST HAM 0
Two games played, two wins, eight goals scored and none conceded - life is pretty good for Swansea fans right now. For all their passing football last season, the Swans lacked a bit of a cutting edge at times, but seemingly no more. West Ham simply found the mobility of the home side impossible to live with, though having said that they were architects of their own downfall by gifting Michael Laudrup's men their first two goals. The first came on 20 minutes when Jussi Jaaskelainen deflected a cross from Angel Rangel into his own net. Nine minutes later it was two, a feeble back-pass from James Collins allowing Michu to calmly convert his third goal of the season. You sensed there might still be a way back for the Hammers, but any hopes were extinguished midway through the second half when Wayne Routledge teed up Danny Graham for a third not long after the former Watford striker had passed up a glorious chance. West Ham had their moments, notably with a string of corners just before half-time which caused Swansea palpitations and almost brought them a goal. That aside, the only positive was a fine debut from Matt Jarvis, who looks an excellent acquisition and should provide plenty of assists for Carlton Cole in the months to come. On the evidence of this defensive display the Hammers are going to need them.
90' STILL LOOKING FOR GOALS
Swansea catch West Ham napping with a quickly-taken free-kick, but Luke Moore is unable to bundle the ball home.
90' INTO STOPPAGE TIME
There will be a minimum of three minutes of added time.
87' NO RESPITE FOR JARVIS
Matt Jarvis goes over to take a right-wing corner and is taunted by chants from the Swansea fans of what a waste of money. That's a little harsh. Nathan Dyer shoots well wide at the other end.
85' SWANSEA SUBSTITUTION
Neil Taylor is replaced by Welsh youngster Ben Davies, who is making his senior debut.
84' WEST HAM BOOKING
Winston Reid is cautioned for deliberate handball.
82' GREAT RECEPTION FOR ROUTLEDGE
Wayne Routledge gets a great ovation as he leaves the field. He has been one of many outstanding players on view today.
81' SWANSEA SUBSTITUTION
Wayne Routledge is replaced by Luke Moore.
79' RVP STARTS
Just in case you are interested for fantasy football purposes - Robin van Persie starts today for United and Wayne Rooney is only on the bench.
77' COLLINS AT FAULT AGAIN
James Collins is caught in possession by Nathan Dyer, who goes for goal but curls an angled shot well over.
75' SWANSEA SUBSTITUTION
Jonathan De Guzman is replaced by Kemy Agustien.
73' CHAMPAGNE FOOTBALL
Swansea are passing the ball around superbly at the moment. West Ham can hardly get a kick.
70' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
Mohamed Diame is replaced by Alou Diarra.
69' SAVE FROM VORM
Ricardo Vaz Te takes the free-kick himself. It's low and powerful, but central and Vorm saves comfortably.
68' SWANSEA BOOKING
Chico is booked for tripping Ricardo Vaz Te.
67' SINCLAIR ON HIS WAY
It is being reported that Swansea have accepted a Manchester City bid for Scott Sinclair, which explains why he is not even on the bench today.
65' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Routledge showed wonderful movement to collect a ball from Rangel and he teed up the ball for Graham, whose right-foot shot found the net.
64' GOAL: SWANSEA 3 WEST HAM 0
Danny Graham seals the points for Swansea.
62' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
Modibo Maiga replaces Carlton Cole.
60' MORE DANGER FOR WEST HAM
From the right, Jonathan De Guzman whips in a dangerous free-kick that is headed to safety by Winston Reid.
59' WEST HAM BOOKING
James Collins hacks down Wayne Routledge and is shown the yellow card for his cynical challenge.
57' BAD MISS FROM GRAHAM
This time Graham is clean through and onside. He collects a pass from Dyer, steadies himself, but bends a right-foot shot wide of the far upright from the edge of the box.
56' REASONS TO BE CHEERFUL
Cheer up West Hams, it's not all gloom and doom. Your under-18 side beat Everton 2-1 at home this morning.
54' WEST HAM BOOKING
Kevin Nolan is cautioned for a studs-first tackle.
53' ESCAPE FOR HAMMERS
Danny Graham is clean through, but the flag goes up for offside. Replays show the striker was just onside and West Ham are very fortunate.
51' SAVE FROM JAASKELAINEN
Danny Graham cuts in off the left flank and tries a low shot to the far post that is well saved by Jussi Jaaskelainen.
49' IT'S NOT OVER YET
Let's be quite clear about one thing: West Ham are not out of this game yet by any stretch. They have looked dangerous from set-pieces, with Michel Vorm looking surprisingly unsteady dealing with aerial balls and Chico seemingly intent on giving the ball away at every opportunity at the heart of the Swans defence.
47' GREAT BRITISH WEATHER
Sunderland's game with Reading has been called off because of a waterlogged pitch. Would you believe it!
46' HERE WE GO AGAIN
West Ham kick off the second half. Ricardo Vaz Te has replaced James Tomkins at the break for the visitors.
45' HT: SWANSEA 2 WEST HAM 0
Swansea are in total control at the break and are currently sat atop the live Premier League table after being gifted a two-goal head start by West Ham. The first goal came on 20 minutes and has been credited as an own goal by Jussi Jaaskelainen, the Hammers goalkeeper trying to cut out a cross from the right by Angel Rangel and deflecting it into his own net. Bad turned to worse nine minutes later when a horrible back-pass from James Collins gifted Michu a free run in on goal and he calmly slotted into the corner. West Ham imposed themselves on the game early and could have snatched a lead inside three minutes, but Kevin Nolan was just unable to get on the end of an excellent cross from the left by new signing Matt Jarvis on his debut. From then on, Swansea have had the better of it and Big Sam will be fuming over those mistakes by the visitors. It's been eight months since their last away defeat, remember.
45' HAMMERS OH, SO CLOSE
West Ham almost do get one back. From one corner, Nolan sees a point-blank shot blocked, Tomkins then sees a goalbound header saved by Vorm and after that Taylor clears off the line from Carlton Cole.
45' INTO STOPPAGE TIME
There will be three minutes of added time.
43' NEEDING A RESPONSE
Boy, how West Ham could do with a goal to raise their spirits before the break and quieten the half-time rollicking that's coming from their manager.
38' WEST HAM BOOKING
Carlton Cole is cautioned for a foul on Chico, who goes down and writhes around on the floor in apparent agony. Surprise, surprise, when the yellow card is duly administered he gets to his feet and is absolutely fine.
37' SAVE FROM JAASKELAINEN
Wayne Routledge plays a ball inside the full-back and Neil Taylor drives a shot towards the roof of the net that is tipped over comfortably enough by Jussi Jaaskelainen.
35' ESCAPE FOR SWANSEA
Jarvis meets a knockdown from Reid and turns and shoots in an instant, but Vorm paws the ball away and Swansea clear before Nolan can pounce on the rebound.
31' SWANSEA BOOKING
Angel Rangel is cautioned for a poor tackle on Matthew Jarvis.
30' MORE ON THAT GOAL
It's another real howler from the visitors. James Collins tried to play a back-pass to his goalkeeper, the ball appeared to hit his standing foot, gifting Michu a clear run on goal. The Spaniard made no mistake, calmly slotting first-time with his left foot into the corner. Woeful defending, quality finish.
29' GOAL SWANSEA 2 WEST HAM 0
Michu gives Swansea a two-goal lead.
28' IT'S GETTING HOT IN HERE
The temperature is certainly starting to rise on the pitch and Martin Atkinson asks players from both sides to cool it.
27' LAST CHANCE SALOON
Chico is warned for persistent fouling. One more and he is in the book.
26' RECKLESS FROM MICHU
James Tomkins makes a real meal of a late tackle by Michu after the whistle had gone. There did not appear to be a lot of contact there and it is no surprise that the West Ham man eventually gets to his feet none the worse for wear.
23' BRAVE FROM VORM
Michel Vorm makes a brave clearance to deny Winston Reid, who went in dangerously with his foot up.
21' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Angel Rangel was put clear down the right. He squared the ball and in trying to snuff out the danger it struck Jussi Jaaskelainen's right elbow which deflected the cross into the far corner of the net.
20' GOAL: SWANSEA 1WEST HAM 0
Swansea are in front. It's an own goal by Jussi Jaaskelainen.
19' GOALS, GOALS, GOALS
Swansea scored five goals in their opening match last weekend. Last season they did not net their fifth goal until their seventh match of the campaign, on October 2.
17' ROUTLEDGE CATCHING THE EYE
Wayne Routledge muscles his man off the ball down the right and floats in a hopeful cross which is just over the head of the well-placed Danny Graham in the centre.
16' SWANSEA ASKING QUESTIONS
Rangel drives a dangerous low cross in from the right, but Collins boots the ball to safety.
13' REID NEEDS TREATMENT
Winston Reid collides with his own player, Mohamed Diame, and is in need of treatment before returning to the fray.
11' DYER SHOT BLOCKED
A marvellous crossfield ball from Ashley Williams kick-starts a Swansea raid down the right. Nathan Dyer sees his shot charged down.
9' NIPPING AT THEIR HEELS
West Ham are certainly being tigerish in the tackle, Swansea are not being allowed to settle into their normal passing style.
6' NEW FACE AT THE LIBERTY
Swansea paraded their new signing Ki Sung-Yeung before kick-off. The tall former Celtic midfielder has the build of a basketball player. Pity he's not playing today to combat West Ham's high balls into the box.
4' OPTIMISTIC OUTLOOK
Right, let's put the mockers on this match early: this fixture has not produced a goalless draw since 1937.
3' ALMOST AN OPENER
Matthew Jarvis almost creates a goal with his first touch, floating in a delightful cross from the left which Kevin Nolan just fails to get on the end of. That was a great chance.
2' EARLY CHICO ERROR
Chico's first touch is a poor one, giving the ball away to Mark Noble. Swansea eventually clear their lines through Ashley Williams.
1' HERE WE GO
Swansea get the game under way, attacking the goal to our left.
0' TODAY'S TEAMS

0' TEAM NEWS
Chico has passed a fitness test for Swansea, so unsurprisingly Michael Laudrup names the same side that thrashed QPR last weekend. New signing Matt Jarvis starts for West Ham at the expense of Matt Taylor, and there's no place for Ricardo Vaz Te, with James Tomkins coming in.
0' PREVIEW
Two of the eight teams still to drop a point meet at the Liberty Stadium as Swansea City take on West Ham United in Saturday's early kick-off in the Premier League. Last season the Swans showed that it doesn't necessarily have to be a relegation dogfight for newly-promoted clubs and it will be their blueprint that Sam Allardyce's side will be looking to follow, albeit pursuing a more direct aerial path to goal rather than the pass mastery that has earned Swansea so many plaudits. Big name scalps including Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool all came a cropper in South Wales and West Ham will know what to expect in what could throw up a fascinating clash of styles. Brendan Rodgers may have graduated to bigger and better things at Liverpool, but the side he left behind still have enough talent to give anyone a game and new manager Michael Laudrup could hardly have wished for a better start in his first match in charge than that spectacular result at Loftus Road on the opening day of the season. Survival alone would rate as an acceptable outcome for a first season back in the big time for West Ham, though they showed they are certainly not lacking in ambition on Friday by paying Wolves the princely sum of £10.75million for the services of winger Matt Jarvis. Today's game kicks off at 1245BST, so join us around 30 minutes beforehand when we should have the confirmed team news, which will be followed by a match commentary.
0' PLAYERS TO WATCH
Michu took to Premier League football like a swan to water last weekend, scoring two goals with left-footed shots and adding an assist for good measure in his first start following a summer move from Rayo Vallecano. Nathan Dyer also netted twice and Wayne Routledge added two assists, though the key man for Swansea could be Dutch goalkeeper Michel Vorm, who helped them keep nine clean sheets at home last season. West Ham will be hoping the dangerous Ricardo Vaz Te is able to reproduce last season's form in the top flight, the Portugal under-21 star scored 20 goals in the Championship for Barnsley and West Ham and also netted twice against Swansea for the Yorkshire side in their FA Cup third round defeat.
0' HEAD TO HEAD
West Ham have the better head-to-head record in league meetings between the sides with 19 wins to 14 by Swansea and nine games being drawn. In Wales, Swansea have 13 wins to four by West Ham, with a further four meetings ending up all square. The last time these two sides met in the league was all the way back on April 5, 1983, when West Ham won 5-1 at the Vetch Field in the old First Division, thereby completing the double having won 3-2 at Upton Park. The Hammers finished eighth that season, while Swansea ended up next to bottom and were relegated. The last time they met in any competition was in the FA Cup in January 1999, when Swansea won a third-round replay 1-0. Unremarkable, you may think, until you remember that West Ham finished fifth in the Premier League that season and qualified for Europe, while Swansea were plying their trade three divisions below them.
0' FORM GUIDE
Swansea are unbeaten in their last four at home, winning three of those matches. West Ham have only been beaten once in their last 22 games including the play-offs and their last defeat away from home came on January 31 when they were thrashed 5-1 by Ipswich at Portman Road.
0' EARLY TEAM NEWS
Swansea will give a late fitness test to defender Chico Flores, who is struggling with a groin problem. Alan Tate, Garry Monk and Kyle Bartley are all standing by. New signings Itay Shechter and Ki Sung-yeung will not figure, but West Ham could hand a start to their new acquisition, Matt Jarvis from Wolves. Jack Collison is still sidelined for the visitors with a knee injury, while manager Sam Allardyce must decide whether to hand starts to Alou Diarra or Modibo Maiga.
0' MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Taking charge of today's game is Martin Atkinson, who has been a member of the Premier League's elite group of referees since 2005 and who became a FIFA referee a year later. The West Yorkshire-based official showed nine red cards last season, none to either of these two teams. That figure was by far the most of any Premier League referee and Atkinson also brandished 85 yellow cards in 27 games for good measure. His assistants today are Stuart Burt and Darren Cann, while Lee Probert is the fourth official.
