A fantastic game finishes 2-2 at Anfield. Liverpool will feel unfortunate not to take all three points after twice taking the lead, but only have themselves to blame after gifting City two equalisers with a pair of atrocious defensive lapses.

One last chance for City, as they win a corner in the final minute of added time. Silva swings it in and the ball drops to Tevez, who skews an effort well wide.

Liverpool burst forward with Suarez down the right, but the striker is unable to find Carroll, unmarked in the centre of the City box. The visitors then counter, but Reina safely gathers from Tevez's effort.

It's fair to say that Tevez's equaliser has quietened the Kop somewhat. Liverpool could be in for a nervy last ten minutes now, if City choose to push for the win. My oh my, what a howler from Martin Skrtel. Liverpool gift the visitors a second equaliser as the centre-back, under no pressure at all, plays a back-pass directly into the path of CARLOS TEVEZ. Jack Rodwell looks a little peeved by the decision that led to that Liverpool free kick. The ball certainly struck the midfielder's arm, but the former Everton man was sliding in an attempt to block a Steven Gerrard shot. It did seem a little harsh.

Liverpool made a change as Hart was organising his defence, replacing Martin Kelly with Jose Enrique. Jonjo Shelvey seems to have recovered from that earlier knock.

Anfield is rocking once again as Liverpool regain the lead within two minutes of conceding that equaliser. Jack Rodwell concedes a free kick for handling the ball around 25-yards from goal. Joe Hart takes care over positioning his wall but obviously misjudges his angles, as LUIS SUAREZ is able to curl an effort around the mass of blue shirts and beat the England 'keeper low to his left. We've got a real game on our hands now. Liverpool 2, Manchester City 1.

Liverpool gift City an equaliser with some truly shambolic defending. Carlos Tevez cuts in from the right and clips the ball into the middle, where Pepe Reina makes a failed attempt to punch clear. The ball then strikes Martin Kelly on the knee and pops up for YAYA TOURE to bundle home. A calamity of errors for the Reds. Liverpool 1, Manchester City 1.

Pepe Reina has a swipe at a Kolarov cross that drops behind for a goal kick. The Liverpool 'keeper hasn't looked too clever against the high ball so far this afternoon.

Martin Skrtel's header separates the sides at the interval, after an entertaining opening 45 minutes at Anfield. City started the stronger and almost took the lead in the 20th minute, as Carlos Tevez's audacious shot rolled across the goal-line before clipping the inside of the post. Liverpool grew as an attacking threat as the half progressed, with youngster Raheem Sterling impressing, and took the lead in the 34th minute as Skrtel powered the ball home from Steven Gerrard's corner. You sense that there are more goals in this one - we'll be back with full second half coverage in a moment or two.

Raheem Sterling shows a little naivety as we enter added time, having a little tug at the arm of Balotelli and conceding a free kick to the right of the Liverpool box. Kolarov's free kick eventually breaks to Samir Nasri, but the Frenchman's shot is deflected wide by Martin Skrtel.

Milner wins another corner for the champions, but Kolarov's delivery is again cleared by the Reds.

Aleksandar Kolarov's corner kick is disappointing, failing to beat the first man. Liverpool are unable to clear their lines completely, however, and the visitors retain possession in the Reds' half.

Another decent effort from Suarez, turning to face goal before bending an effort a couple of yards wide of Joe Hart's left-hand post. Liverpool are finishing the half strongly.

A nervy moment for City, as Vincent Kompany almost turns the ball past his own goalkeeper from Gerrard's whipped cross. Fortunately for the visitors, the ball flashes over the crossbar.

Now there's an opening at the other end as Balotelli does wonderfully well to jink his way through the Liverpool defence. The finish does not match the build-up, however, and the Italian lashes his shot over the crossbar.

Liverpool are just starting to build a little attacking momentum; Suarez turns nicely after collecting Shelvey's pass, but his shot is blocked by a sky blue shirt.

Sterling and Borini link nicely again, the youngster teeing up his teammate for a shot which is deflected behind for a Liverpool corner. City clear Steven Gerrard's flag kick without alarm.

Stirling is upended by Toure, but play is allowed to continue as the ball lands at the feet of Suarez. The Liverpool forward is eventually bundled out of possession and City bring the ball away.

Another handball shout, this time from the City fans, as Tevez's drive strikes Coates. Andre Marriner waves away the appeals once again.
20' OFF THE LINE!
Carlos Tevez goes very, very close to giving Manchester City the lead at Anfield. The Argentine breaks through the Liverpool backline and draws Reina off his line - with the striker facing the narrowest of angles, everyone is expecting the pass. Tevez has other ideas, however, clipping a shot which squeezes past the 'keeper and rolls across the goal-line, before striking the inside of the left-hand post. The home fans breathe a collective sigh of relief as Reina finally gathers.
18' BORINI EFFORT
Excellent work from Raheem Sterling creates the best opening of the match so far. The 17-year-old makes himself a yard with a couple of stepovers before swinging a right-footed cross into the box. Fabio Borini steals in between the City centre-backs to meet the ball but is only able to poke a volley wide of the target.
15' SUAREZ RUN
Luis Suarez cuts in from the right but is eventually muscled out by the City defence. The Uruguayan may have been better off playing the early pass there.

Good 'keeping from Reina, advancing off his line to claim Milner's cross ahead of Tevez and Balotelli.

The Kop are on their feet as Raheem Sterling receives the ball and skips across the pitch from left to right. The ball eventually breaks to Fabio Borini, who fires a shot against Kolarov from close range. The home fans - and some of the Liverpool players - appeal for a penalty, but Andre Marriner waves play on.

City win a free kick 30-odd yards from goal as Martin Skrtel is penalised. Aleksandar Kolarov's effort is tricky for Reina, but the Reds 'keeper collects safely in spite of an awkward bounce.

After that opening day humbling at the hands of West Brom, life could be about to get even tougher for new Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers; champions Manchester City are in town, looking to end a winless run at Anfield that stretches back nine years. The Reds' midweek Europa League win over Hearts will have steadied the ship somewhat, but Rodgers' side will have to put in a much improved defensive performance compared to their showing at the Hawthorns if they are to keep Tevez, Ballotelli and co at bay this afternoon. City, of course, have concerns of their own at the back, after twice being caught cold on the counter-attack by Southampton during the 3-2 victory over the Saints at the Etihad last weekend. The champions' attacking options eventually overwhelmed the visitors on that occasion, but a more experienced side such as Liverpool may not be so generous if handed the same sort of opportunity.
