So the spoils are shared at the Britannia, as Stoke and Arsenal play out a goalless draw that never quite burst into life. The Gunners dominated possession and territory, but were unable to fashion much in the way of clear chances. The Potters, meanwhile, defended well and picked up yet another point against one of the Premier League's big boys.

What an effort from Giroud! The Frenchman is set free down the left and attempts to lob Begovic from miles out. He's not that far off either, the ball dropping onto the top of the Stoke net. Arsene Wenger looks less than impressed, however; Aaron Ramsey was busting a gut to give his teammate an option in the centre.

Kightly stands over the ball after Mikel Arteta concedes a free kick in a threatening position. The midfielder's delivery is decent, but Per Mertesacker clears with a towering header. Steve Bould, Arsenal's new assistant manager, will be very pleased with the Gunners' defensive performance.

Michael Kightly looks to capitalise as Aaron Ramsey concedes possession in the centre of midfield, threading the ball into the path of Jon Walters. The Stoke forward appears to misjudge the position of Vito Mannone, however, and ends up flicking a limp effort goalwards off the outside of his boot.

Lee Mason spots an infringement as Arteta delivers another flag kick. Begovic takes his time with the resulting restart, to the evident annoyance of the travelling fans.

Ouch. Arsenal's attempts to play their way through the Stoke backline are halted as Andy WIlkinson kicks Thomas Vermaelen a couple of feet into the air. That's about as bad a tackle as you can make without receiving a red card.

Examples of fine goalkeeping at both ends of the pitch, as Begovic makes an impressive take from Lukas Podolski's low cross before Vito Mannone shrugs off the challenge of Walters to claim a high ball. The Arsenal 'keeper then rather spoils it all by booting the ball straight out of play for a Stoke throw-in.

Michael Kightly turns smartly on the edge of the penalty area before spooning an attempted cross over Mannone's crossbar. A disappointing effort from the former Wolves man, who had given himself the time to pick out a teammate.

Jermaine Pennant mugs Kieran Gibbs on the left flank before taking a tumble in the box under the full-back's challenge. Lee Mason has a look before waving play on; a pretty good decision, TV replays would seem to indicate.

Shawcross jogs up from the back in anticipation of another Geoff Cameron long throw. The American launches the ball towards the six-yard box, where Peter Crouch sees a header blocked by a purple shirt.

Santi Cazorla swings another corner towards Per Mertesacker at the near-post. Stoke have a handle on the big German, however, and head the ball away.

Gervinho surges to the byline on the right side of the pitch before attempting to clip a cross into the centre. Ryan Shawcross is in position to make the block, which cannons back onto the Arsenal winger and drops behind for a Stoke goal kick.

Neat build-up play from Arsenal creates some space for Abou Diaby on the edge of the Stoke penalty area. The midfielder slightly misplaces his pass, intended for Olivier Giroud, and the Potters are able to clear.

The second half is underway at the Britannia.
45' HALF-TIME SUMMARY
Both managers will have some thinking to do at the interval, after a cagey opening period at the Britannia. Arsene Wenger will be pleased with the composure his side have shown at the back and the way the Gunners have retained the ball, but will be concerned by the way the visitors have failed to convert their possession into clear chances. Tony Pulis, meanwhile, will have been satisfied with his team's defending, but will want the Potters to show more in the way of attacking threat in the second half.

Santi Cazorla's first delivery is nodded behind for another corner. Stoke clear from the Spaniard's second set-piece and referee Lee Mason blows his whistle to end the half.

Peter Crouch, who has made the most of the little service he's received so far this afternoon, turns well before seeing his shot blocked by an Arsenal defender. Cameron collects the ball for the resulting long-throw, but opts to play it short on this occasion.

Brilliant defending from the Potters, as Whelan makes a vital challenge to halt Kieran Gibbs, before Ryan Shawcross makes an excellent tackle on Giroud to win a goal kick for his side.

Arsenal have a man over as they hit the Potters on the break, only for Gervinho to fail to control the ball on the right-hand side. The result is a Stoke goal kick.

Geoff Cameron winds up for another long throw, which is launched into the Arsenal six-yard box. Mannone comes through a crowd to pluck the ball out of the air, and receives an almighty cheer from the visiting fans.

That's much better from Cazorla. Mikel Arteta takes a crunching challenge from Glenn Whelan but Lee Mason plays an excellent advantage, allowing the Spanish international to smash a swerving effort goalwards. Begovic makes a good save, palming the ball behind for a corner.

Santi Cazorla attempts another low drive from distance, which once again whizzes to the right of Asmir Begovic's net. The Spaniard doesn't seem to have quite found his range so far this afternoon.

Jon Walters works the ball inside to Michael Kightly, who takes a neat touch before testing Mannone with a firm strike from 20 yards out. Stoke's best effort of the half so far.

A Podolski effort flies well clear of Begovic's crossbar, to the audible delight of the home supporters. Arsenal are starting to turn the screw a tad, although the Potters remain a threat on the counter.

Another glimpse of goal for Arsenal, but Cazorla's shot strikes a Stoke defender before bobbling gently into the arms of Asmir Begovic.
21' FINE CHALLENGE
The hosts almost catch the Gunners on the counter, Crouch and Walters linking brilliantly in the centre of the pitch. The Republic of Ireland international works the ball wide to Jermaine Pennant, but Gibbs gets back to make a brilliant challenge.
21' TOO MUCH ON IT
A big chance goes begging for the visitors as Abou Diaby plays Kieran Gibbs into space on the left-hand side of the Stoke penalty area. The purple shirts are queuing up in the middle, but the full-back manages to chip his cross over the head of Gervinho, who is lurking at the back-post.
19' CONTROLLING POSSESSION
Arsenal have had almost 70% of possession during the opening 20 minutes. Stoke look compact and well-organised, however, and have kept the Gunners at bay so far.
16' FREE KICK
Lukas Podolski's surging run is halted by Robert Huth, the Stoke centre-back conceding a free-kick on the edge of his penalty area and picking up a booking for his trouble. Santi Cazorla takes the set-piece, slamming his first effort into the wall before following up with a low shot that zips a couple of yards wide of the post.
14' ARSENAL PRESSURE
The Gunners are seeing a lot of the ball in the final third but are yet to really make it count, that Podolski opportunity aside. Olivier Giroud's clipped cross cannons back off the chest of Abou Diaby, before the Frenchman fizzes his follow-up through the penalty area and behind for a Potters goalkick.

Now Podolski is flagged offside, as Santi Cazorla attempts to breach the Stoke back four with a lofted pass.

A good chance for the visitors, as Lukas Podolski looks to capitalise on Andy Wilkinson's slip. The German international slams a firm shot goalwards, only for the tumbling Stoke defender to fall in the path of the ball and make an unintentional block.
7' OFFSIDE!
Stoke have the ball in the net, but the linesman correctly flags for offside. The Potters hit the Gunners on the break as Thomas Vermaelen was caught out of position, culminating in Jon Walters hooking the ball home from Peter Crouch's knockdown. Replays show the linesman's decision to be the correct one, however, as the former Ipswich man was a yard ahead of the last defender.

If Arsenal thought they were in for an easier afternoon in the absence of Rory Delap and Ryan Shotton, then they were mistaken. Stoke summer signing Geoff Cameron hurls a long throw towards Peter Crouch, but the Gunners bundle the ball away at the front post.

Tony Pulis also makes two changes to the Stoke XI who began against Reading last weekend, with Jermaine Pennant and Geoff Cameron replacing Matthew Etherington and the suspended Dean Whitehead.

Stoke City will be without midfielder Dean Whitehead, who is serving a one-match ban after seeing red against Reading last weekend, while a thigh problem could deny Jermaine Pennant the chance to line up against his former club. Arsene Wenger may hand Olivier Giroud a first competitive start for the Gunners, with the French forward expected to come into the starting XI in place of Gervinho. Wojciech Szczesny may miss out with a rib injury, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should be included amongst the Arsenal substitutes.

These sides last met at the Britannia back at the end of April, a Robin van Persie goal cancelling out Peter Crouch's opener in a 1-1 draw. The Dutchman scored twice when Tony Pulis' men visited the Emirates earlier in the season, joining Gervinho and Crouch on the scoresheet as the Gunners ran out 3-1 winners.
