West Ham United vs. Fulham
Minute Commentary
90' FT: WEST HAM 3 FULHAM 0
West Ham make it two home wins out of two after brushing aside a feeble Fulham side at Upton Park. Andy Carroll may not have got on the scoresheet on his Hammers debut, but he was in the thick of everything and his acquisition on loan from Liverpool could turn out to be one of the shrewdest pieces of business in this summer's transfer window. Carroll made his mark inside a minute, heading down to Ricardo Vaz Te who teed up Carroll's former Newcastle team-mate Kevin Nolan to shoot home superbly. West Ham threatened almost at will and although Mohamed Diame was denied by goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer and the crossbar, it was no surprise when they doubled their advantage just before the half-hour mark. Winston Reid rose to head home a corner from the right, with Schwarzer making a late and ill-judged decision to come off his line to try to claim the ball. It was game over four minutes before the break when Matt Taylor shot home from the edge of the area after a poor defensive header from Brede Hangeland. The only blemish on a magnificent day for the home side was that Carroll limped off with a hamstring injury midway through the second half. Fulham? It looks like they will once again have to rely on their wonderful home form to keep them up. Kieran Richardson impressed for the first hour and another new signing, Dimitar Berbatov, showed flashes of skill after his introduction at the start of the second half.
90' INTO STOPPAGE TIME
We are in the second of three minutes of added time.
90' FINE SAVE DENIES DUFF
Jussi Jaaskelainen dives to his left to keep out a fierce near-post shot from Damien Duff. Moments later the former Bolton stopper just manages to push a Hugo Rodallega shot on to the post.
89' CLOSE TO A FLUKE FOURTH
A poor cross from Vaz Te almost drops into the top corner beyond Mark Schwarzer.
88' EASY DAY FOR THE REFEREE
Mr Taylor is two minutes away from a second successive Premier League match in which he has failed to brandish a single card.
87' PLAYING AT WALKING PACE
They're heading for the exits at Upton Park. Both sides are going through the motions in the closing stages.
85' HAMMERS FAST BREAK
West Ham break from a Fulham corner. Vaz Te teases the Fulham defence before playing the ball to Hall and his shot is blocked.
83' NO PLACE LIKE HOME
The Hammers won just five of their 19 home matches the last time they were in the Premier League. They're seven minutes away from a second in two games this time around.
81' LATEST ON CARROLL
The latest from the touchline is that Andy Carroll had tightness in his right hamstring and was brought off as a precaution. It sounds like he might be available again after the international break, which is good news for West Ham fans.
79' CHANGE IN FORMATION
Joey O'Brien has gone to right-back for West Ham, with Matt Taylor dropping back to play on the left side of defence.
78' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
Robert Hall replaces the injured Guy Demel and comes on to make his Premier League debut.
77' IN NEED OF TREATMENT
Guy Demel is down with an injury to his left foot. He's going to have to come off.
74' RODALLEGA SHOT SAVED
Dimitar Berbatov combines well with Hugo Rodallega, but the Colombian's effort from the edge of the area is straight at Jaaskelainen.
71' GOOD WORK FROM BERBATOV
A wonderful run by Berbatov ends with Sidwell seeing his shot deflected over the crossbar. Sidwell is then denied by Jaaskelainen from the ensuing corner.
69' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
Carroll's day is indeed done. He is replaced by Carlton Cole and gets a fantastic ovation as he limps off the pitch.
68' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
While Carroll is being assessed, James Collins is replaced by James Tomkins.
68' CARROLL INJURED
Andy Carroll has fallen awkwardly after a challenge by Brede Hangeland and may have damaged his hamstring.
67' DIARRA GIVES IT AWAY
Mahamadou Diarra gives the ball away cheaply, but the Mali player is relieved as West Ham are unable to capitalise. At the other end, Rodallega sees his shot blocked.
65' SAM'S NOT HAPPY
The West Ham manager is bawling at his defensive line, trying to get them to move further up the pitch and not give Fulham as much room in which to play.
63' A VERY ANDY DISPLAY
The one thing that has really impressed me with Andy Carroll today has been his work-rate. The England man struck me as being somewhat lazy and disinterested at times playing for Liverpool. Not today.
61' NOT THIS TIME FOR TAYLOR
Matt Taylor tries an ambitious angled drive from 30 yards which goes well wide of the far upright.
60' FULHAM SUBSTITUTION
Alex Kacaniklic replaces Kieran Richardson for Fulham.
59' MORE PROMISING FOR FULHAM
Fulham are enjoying their best spell of the match at the moment. They are seeing lots of the ball, even if they still look impotent up front.
57' CHANGE IN THE OFFING
Alex Kacaniklic is getting ready to come on for Fulham. Think he'll change the game in the Cottagers' favour? Neither do I.
55' COLLINS LOOKING BETTER THIS WEEK
Kieran Richardson delivers a dangerous low cross from the left, but James Collins clears the danger at full stretch. He's had a much steadier game than he did last week, has the Hammers central defender.
52' LOOKING FOR A FOURTH
West Ham go close to adding a fourth. A free-kick 22 yards from goal is teed up by Nolan for Taylor and his low shot is kept out with some difficulty by Schwarzer.
51' FLAG STOPS BERBATOV
Berbatov finds some space on the left edge of the area, but looks up to see the flag raised for offside. That was a borderline call from linesman Mick McDonough.
49' CHANGE IN FORMATION
Rodallega is playing in a much more central position now to support Berbatov, as the visitors try to find their way back into the game.
48' WEST HAM ON TOP AGAIN
It's the Hammers who have the first chance of the second half, Ricardo Vaz Te shinning well over the bar from 20 yards.
46' HERE WE GO AGAIN
Fulham get the second half under way. Dimitar Berbatov has replaced Mladen Petric at the interval for the visitors.
45' HT: WEST HAM 3 FULHAM 0
West Ham lead at the break and they are worth their three-goal advantage because they have dominated the opening half. It took Andy Carroll less than a minute to make a mark for his new team. The tall striker won the initial header, Ricardo Vaz Te collected the knockdown and instantly found Kevin Nolan, who was clear overlapping on his left. The West Ham captain finished expertly, shooting across Mark Schwarzer into the unguarded far corner to open the scoring after 53 seconds. The Hammers might have doubled their tally not long after, but Schwarzer turned a shot from Mohamed Diame on to the top of the crossbar before denying Vaz Te at his near post. The second came just before the half-hour when Winston Reid headed home from a right-wing corner, with Schwarzer's poor positioning making his job all the easier. A weak clearing defensive header from Brede Hangeland four minutes from the interval gave Matt Taylor the chance to shoot home a third from the edge of the area. Fulham have enjoyed more than their fair share of possession, but they have created little threat with it in the attacking third.
43' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Brede Hangeland's poor clearing header fell to Taylor on the edge of the area and he fired into the ground and into the corner, giving Schwarzer no chance.
42' GOAL: WEST HAM 3 FULHAM 0
Matthew Taylor nets a third for West Ham.
41' ARE YOU SWANSEA IN DISGUISE?
West Ham have started spraying short passes around. It's just like watching Swansea. Big Sam will be fuming!
39' AWAY DAY BLUES
Fulham have won just 30 of their 210 away matches in the Premier League. It's easy to see why.
36' WALKING A TIGHTROPE
Sascha Riether appeared to push Andy Carroll again there inside the area. The German is certainly risking giving away a penalty in his eagerness to contest a header he can't possibly win.
34' RICHARDSON A LONE BRIGHT SPOT
Kieran Richardson is filling a central midfield role for Fulham and has been one of their better players in what has been a dismal first half-hour.
31' MORE ON THAT GOAL
The delivery from Taylor was right on the money and Reid totally committed to winning the ball, beating his man and heading into an empty net after Schwarzer had come off his line.
30' GOAL: WEST HAM 2 FULHAM 0
Winston Reid heads home from a right-wing corner.
27' COMFORTABLE FOR JAASKELAINEN
Steve Sidwell turns neatly and shoots powerfully from 25 yards. The low shot, though, is too central and Jussi Jaaskelainen is right behind it.
24' CHASING A MILESTONE
Sam Allardyce has collected 999 league points as a manager. You would not bet against him bringing up four figures today the way this game is panning out.
21' SHOT BLOCKED
Taylor's low shot is blocked by Hangeland and West Ham have another corner. A disappointing delivery is too close to Schwarzer.
19' CARROLL WANTS A PENALTY
Carroll goes to ground and it looked like he got a push in the back from Sascha Riether. That could easily have been a spot-kick.
17' TOO HIGH FROM NOLAN
West Ham's front three threaten again. Carroll and Vaz Te combine and Nolan's audacious chip from outside the box goes just over the crossbar.
15' DIARRA EFFORT WELL WIDE
Fulham finally manage a shot, but it's debatable whether Mahamadou Diarra's effort was closer to the corner flag than the post. Duff then fails to collect a superb pass from Brede Hangeland.
13' SCHWARZER SAVES AGAIN
Joey O'Brien tees up Ricardo Vaz Te in the inside-left channel and his shot from inside the box is turned round the post by Mark Schwarzer.
10' OFF THE CROSSBAR
Andy Carroll knocks down a right-wing cross from Vaz Te into the path of Mohamed Diame, who sees a shot from the edge of the area tipped on to the crossbar by Mark Schwarzer.
8' AWKWARD SAVE FROM JAASKELAINEN
Kieran Richardson shoots from distance and Jussi Jaaskelainen dives to his left to palm the ball away. No Fulham striker was following up, though.
6' THREATENING AGAIN
Back come West Ham once more. Diame finds Taylor wide on the left and his curling cross is just overhit.
4' EARLY BLOW FOR FULHAM
That's just what Sam Allardyce bought Carroll for. Vaz Te was alert to the possibilities and Fulham's defence wasn't, as simple as that. Nolan had acres of space to net his second goal of the season.
3' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Andy Carroll won the initial header, Ricardo Vaz Te helped it on and the unmarked Kevin Nolan fired left-footed into the far corner from about ten yards.
2' GOAL: WEST HAM 1 FULHAM 0
Kevin Nolan gives West Ham the lead after 53 seconds.
1' HERE WE GO
West Ham kick off, attacking the goal to our right.

0' TODAY'S TEAM NEWS - CARROLL STARTS
Andy Carroll is in the starting line-up for West Ham and will play alongside Ricardo Vaz Te. Matt Taylor and Joey O'Brien also come into the side, with James Tomkins, Carlton Cole and Matt Jarvis the men to miss out. Fulham also give a debut to a new signing, with Kieran Richardson in their starting line-up. Dimitar Berbatov is on the bench. Matthew Briggs, Mousa Dembele (now at Spurs), Alex Kacaniklic and Bryan Ruiz are the four who played at Old Trafford not in the first XI today.
0' PREVIEW
Andy Carroll is expected to make his Premier League debut for West Ham in their Saturday lunchtime clash with Fulham at Upton Park. The England striker has joined the East London outfit on loan from Liverpool until the end of the season, with the option of completing a permanent move for a fee of around half the £35 million the Anfield side paid Newcastle for his services in January 2011. The move sees Carroll reunited with his former Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce and captain Kevin Nolan and you don't need to have seen the big grin on Big Sam's face this week to appreciate this is a major coup for the Hammers. In one fell swoop, West Ham have guaranteed their survival because if he stays fit Carroll will score goals on a regular basis, something that would not necessarily be the case with the inconsistent Carlton Cole or the flamboyant Ricardo Vaz Te. Suddenly the outlook is a whole lot brighter for the fans who had to endure that dismal display at Swansea last weekend. It has been a difficult transfer window for Fulham, with their best player, Clint Dempsey, refusing to play for the club in an attempt to engineer a move away and then Tottenham triggering a release clause in the contract of arguably the Cottagers' second-best player, Mousa Dembele, which saw him sold to the White Hart Lane outfit this week. Deadline day itself, however, brought new recruits, with Kieran Richardson joining from Sunderland and Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United. We have learnt this morning that Berbatov was signed in time to be eligible to play today. Today's game kicks off at 1245BST, so join us around 30 minutes beforehand when we should have the confirmed team news, which will be followed by a match commentary.
0' PLAYERS TO WATCH
All eyes will be on the tunnel to see whether a pony-tailed striker emerges to lead the line for West Ham or shuffles out at the back and makes his way to sit on the bench alongside his manager. The smart money says Carroll will start and he will be looking forward to getting on the end of crosses from the club's record signing, Matt Jarvis. The former Wolves winger was West Ham's best player by a mile at the Liberty Stadium last weekend and he will surely supply plenty of ammunition to enable Carroll to wreak havoc on many a Premier League defence this season.
0' HEAD TO HEAD
West Ham have the better head-to-head record in league meetings between the sides with 35 wins to 25 by Fulham and 18 games being drawn. At Upton Park, the Hammers have 21 wins to eight by Fulham, with a further 10 meetings ending up all square. The last time these sides met was at Craven Cottage on Boxing Day 2010 where West Ham recovered from going a goal down to win 3-1, helped by a double from Carlton Cole. The earlier meeting that season at Upton Park took place on October 2 and finished in a 1-1 draw. West Ham have lost just once at home in the league since mid-December, that was a 4-2 setback against Reading on March 31. Fulham won 2-0 on their first trip to West Ham in the Premier League in November 2001 but have not won on this ground on seven subsequent league visits, drawing four times and losing on three occasions.
0' FORM GUIDE
West Ham won their opening match of the season 1-0 against Aston Villa at Upton Park, but were beaten 3-0 at Swansea in their second Premier League outing. Fulham opened their campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Norwich at Craven Cottage and followed it up with a creditable performance at Old Trafford, losing 3-2 to Manchester United. These two sides had contrasting fortunes in the Capital One Cup in midweek, West Ham beating Crewe 2-0 at home, but Fulham crashing out 1-0 at Sheffield Wednesday.
0' EARLY TEAM NEWS
Andy Carroll aside (we've talked too much about him already), West Ham have a few injury problems, particularly in defence. Left-back George McCartney (ankle) and centre-halves James Collins (calf) and Winston Reid (knee) all face late fitness tests and midfielder Jack Collison is definitely out with a knee problem. Martin Jol will make wholesale changes to the starting XI beaten by Sheffield Wednesday in midweek, with Mladen Petric and John-Arne Riise both fit after minor knocks. Kerim Frei (pelvis) and Philippe Senderos (foot) are still missing and are likely to be joined on the sidelines by Bryan Ruiz, who missed the League Cup match after hurting his hamstring in the warm-up.
0' MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Taking charge of today's game is Anthony Taylor, who has been a member of the Premier League's elite group of referees since 2010. The Manchester-based official refereed 18 games in the top flight last season, showing 56 yellow cards and dismissing four players, Blackburn striker Yakubu, Wolves defender Ronald Zubar, Liverpool goalkeeper Doni (in that memorable match at Blackburn) and Sunderland midfielder Craig Gardner. His first top-flight appointment of this season came last Saturday at Southampton, where he failed to show a single card in the home side's defeat by Wigan. Taylor's assistants today are Simon Long and Mick McDonough, while Lee Mason is the fourth official.
