90' ARSENAL EASE TO VICTORY
A fine performance from the Gunners saw them run out two goal winners after goals from Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla. Podolski opened his account in the Premier League with a neat finish after a fine pass from Cazorla and it was the Spaniard who doubled the lead after a pass from Abou Diaby, although Pepe Reina will feel he should have done better. Liverpool had good spells, but looked poor in the final third with Fabio Borini looking off the pace and Luis Suarez frustrated. What the home side did offer tended to come through Raheem Sterling, but the Reds cannot rest their hopes and dreams on a raw 17-year old. At the final whistle, Arsenal were overjoyed with their victory whilst Liverpool looked downbeat.

Jonjo Shelvey twists on the edge of the box and manages to get a shot in. Vito Mannone parries it. Thomas Vermaelen is forced to race back and clear before a Liverpool shirt can convert.

The Gunners look a completely different side this year as they look more settled at the back and, dare I say, they look a lot less likely to hit the self-destruct button.

Santi Cazorla lofts a ball into the path of Olivier Giroud, but the striker doesn`t quite have the legs to fashion a chance. However, he does win a corner.

Joe Allen has spent most of the game trying to get this Liverpool side moving and he does brilliantly on the edge of the box to dance past a couple of challenges when none of his team mates wanted the ball.

A lot of Liverpool's hopes have been pinned on Raheem Sterling, but the winger has really tired this half and has hardly been in the game. The home side desperately need a plan B, but there is little on the bench that can change a game.

A cauldron of noise had been stirring at Anfield before that goal, but that has now fallen silent except for the mocking Arsenal fans.

Brilliant from Santi Cazorla. The midfielder picks the ball up on the edge of the box and exchanges passes with Abou Diaby. Cazorla sprints into the box and fires low across Pepe Reina, who can`t get down quick enough and can only palm it into the net.

Santi Cazorla is getting more and more room. This time the midfielder moves the ball to his left and fires a shot just wide of the post - I think that had Pepe Reina beaten.

Luis Suarez tries to get things going with a run, but Mikel Arteta is brilliant in the tackle and sweeps the ball away from the forward.

The home side have upped their tempo and are now starting to push Arsenal back. However, they are still lacking any quality in the final third with Luis Suarez looking increasing frustrated.

Fabio Borini is replaced by Stewart Downing. Surely even the much maligned Downing will be an improvement on the dire Italian.

The Italian striker is really having a poor game and seems to be short of the required quality. Fabio Borini tries to stand up a ball to the far post, but it is too easy for the defender.

A great move from Arsenal. The ball is spread to Lukas Podolski, who finds the run of Kieran Gibbs and he hits a low shot that is saved well by Pepe Reina.

Liverpool finally get in behind Arsenal and Fabio Borini cross for the run of Luis Suarez. The forward takes a tumble and it looks like a push by Per Mertesacker. However, Howard Webb waves play on - maybe, a case of the boy who cried wolf.
50' ARSENAL IN CONTROL
Perhaps it is a clever change in tempo from Liverpool, but Arsenal have started the second half better and are looking like they might increase their lead. Are the home side looking to lull their opponents into a false sense of security?

Martin Skrtel slides in from behind on Abou Diaby and Howard Webb books the Liverpool defender.

Liverpool back off Santi Cazorla and the Spanish midfielder hits a shot, but Martin Skrtel is able to block. Have the home side not learnt that you cannot afford to give the Spaniard that much space?

We are back under way at Anfield.
45' GUNNERS IN NARROW LEAD
A dogged display from Arsenal sees them a goal up at the break and deservedly so as they have been the only team to show any incision. Liverpool for all their good spells have lacked any quality in the final third. Fabio Borini has drifted in and out of the game, and even when he is ‘in', he barely looks like a Premier League footballer, whilst Luis Suarez lacks the effervescence he had when he first came to England. Arsenal went ahead when Santi Cazorla burst forward and picked out the run of Lukas Podolski. The German made no mistake with his low finish. Olivier Giroud should have made it two when Abou Diaby fed him with a neat pass, but the striker drove the ball wide.

45' GOOD TACKLE
Per Mertesacker does well to step in and take the ball off the toes of Steven Gerrard.
44' OFFSIDE
A long ball forward for Raheem Sterling is wasted at the youngster had made his run too soon. The winger has to do better than that as he should not be going offside when he can see across the line.

Abou Diaby carries the ball forward in a counter attack and picks out Olivier Giroud's run. It's a great chance, but the striker can`t get his foot round the ball and drives well wide. The new signing would have been better laying that off for Lukas Podolski.
40' PENALTY CLAIM
Again it is Raheem Sterling causing panic in the Arsenal defence. The winger finds some room and Per Mertesacker dives in. Liverpool half claim a penalty, but it looks like the defender got the ball.
38' OFF THE POST
Chaos in the Arsenal defence. Raheem Sterling does well to turn, but can't get round the ball to fire on target and smashes against the outside of the post.
37' GOOD TACKLE
Raheem Sterling looks to have skinned Carl Jenkinson, but the right back digs in and gets back to block the cross.
35' POOR CROSS
Again, Steven Gerrard is too urgent to get the ball forward. This time the midfielder tries to pick out Luis Suarez with a deep cross, but that was never going to reach him and Per Mertesacker clears.
33' FINE TACKLE
Luis Suarez runs at the Arsenal defence, but Thomas Vermaelen holds him up and slides in to win the ball. The defender needs some treatment after Suarez accidently stepped on him during the slide.
31' GOOAALL!!
Steven Gerrard gives the ball away and Arsenal break. Santi Cazorla just has too much room and picks out Lukas Podolski, who fires low past Pepe Reina. Olivier Giroud deserves some credit for an intelligent run that drew the defence.
29' LACKING QUALITY
It remains an interesting battle but, despite all the nice build up play, neither of these two sides possess the confidence or the quality in the final third.
26' YELLOW CARD
Per Mertesacker plays an awful pass out from the back, which is intercepted by Raheem Sterling. Not exactly the player you want to hand the ball to. Mikel Arteta realises the danger and brings the winger down. Howard Webb books the Arsenal man for the cynical foul.
25' POOR CROSS
Kieran Gibbs gets forward, but lofts a ball to the back post when there are no Arsenal shirts there. Olivier Giroud needs better service than that.
23' GOOD DEFENDING
Luis Suarez has time and space in the box after a good pass from Steven Gerrard. Per Mertesacker does well by standing up and forcing the striker wide, before blocking the cross.
21' JUST LEAVE HIM!
Luis Suarez goes for a tackle and his momentum takes him through Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The striker tries to say sorry by picking the Arsenal midfielder up, but Oxlade-Chamberlain needs some treatment and insists on staying on the floor.
19' VERMAELEN STEPS FORWARD
Brilliant from the Arsenal centre back as he bursts into midfield with the ball. However, he gets a touch carried away as he tries to smash a shot at goal, but drags it wide. The defender would have been better finding a team mate.
17' POOR PASS
Brendan Rodgers seems to be having some problem with Steven Gerrard. The England man continues to try too many of those 'Hollywood balls' and more often than not hands possession to the opposition.
14' JENKINSON STRUGGLING
The Arsenal right back passes across his own box, but Fabio Borini gets to the ball first. However, the striker again misses the target. It's a good job Liverpool have lots of cover up front. Oh wait...
11' REINA SAVES
It's not pretty football from Arsenal, but they fashion a chance just by the sheer weight of their numbers. The ball falls to Santi Cazorla and his drive through the gap is straight into Pepe Reina's arms.
10' WIDE
Liverpool are on top now. Raheem Sterling finds Fabio Borini on the right. The striker's touch drives him wide, before he shoots wildly into the stand.
9' OFFSIDE
Promising play from Liverpool. Glen Johnson heads off on a run down the right, which Fabio Borini picks out with a good pass. The Arsenal defence step up like the days of old and the right back is flagged offside.
7' FREE KICK
Luis Suarez runs at the Arsenal defence and wins a free kick in a dangerous position. Suarez bounces up and takes the free kick himself, but he gets under it and doesn`t trouble Vito Mannone.
5' WIDE
Carl Jenkinson tires to chest the ball down for a team mate, but only succeeds in finding Fabio Borini . The Italian drives at the defence, who back off and allow the striker a shot at goal. However, Borini can only steer it wide.
3' LONG BALL
Pepe Reina smashes a back pass up the pitch. That is not exactly the approach we have come to expect from a Brendan Rodgers' side.
1' TERRIBLE TOUCH
I have no idea what Luis Suarez was trying there. Jose Enrique lofts a decent ball into him, but the striker twists his body and tries some kind of flick, only to spank it out for a throw.

Arsene Wenger makes only one change to the side that drew at Stoke with Alex Oxade-Chamberlain coming onto the right wing. Neither Wojciech Szczęsny or Łukasz Fabiański have recovered from injuries so third-choice keeper – and accident waiting to happen - Vito Mannone continues his stint between the sticks.

Jose Enrique has recovered from injury and comes in at left back, whilst Daniel Agger returns from suspension to take his place in the heart of the Liverpool defence. Nuri Şahin, on loan from Real Madrid, makes his Premier League debut against the team he very nearly signed for.

Arsenal were the victors last time Howard Webb refereed a game between these two clubs at Anfield with Andrei Arshavin getting the winning goal. However, that was nearly three years ago and times have changed a lot for these two teams.
0' WENGER WANTS GOALS
It is fair to say that Arsenal dominated their previous two games against Sunderland and Stoke, who were both happy to sit eleven men behind the ball. Arsene Wenger's men did everything apart from put the ball in the back of the net. With Liverpool more likely to be proactively attacking, the Gunners should find more space in their opponent's half and that will present more chances, but will those new signings be able to hit the back of the net?
0' LIVERPOOL WAITING TO GEL
It has been a stuttering start for Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool. The embarrassment of the opening day defeat was nearly wiped out by a victory against Manchester City – until Martin Skrtel's awful bad pass allowed an equaliser. The new manager will be hoping for three points today against an Arsenal side that are yet to get into their stride themselves.
0' REDS LOOK TO END POOR HOME RUN
Whilst neither of these two clubs set the world alight on transfer day, we can expect a whole lot more entertainment at Anfield as Arsenal and Liverpool go in search of their first win of the season. The odds would seem firmly stacked in the Gunners' favour as the Reds have won only one of their last six games home league games and have only one victory in their last ten games against Arsene Wenger's men.
