So both teams take a point from an engaging contest at the Britannia. Peter Crouch gave the Potters a first half lead just before the quarter hour mark, forcing the ball home from close range, before Javi Garcia equalised with a 35th minute header. Stoke had the best of the majority of the second period, with Charlie Adam increasingly influential in the centre of midfield but it was the champions who went close to stealing it in injury time, as Garcia saw an effort deflected onto the post before Eden Dzeko's lob was cleared off the line by Ryan Shawcross.

The Potters took the lead in the 14th minute, Peter Crouch bundling home after a suspected handball, before Garcia nodded past Begovic from a Tevez free kick to equalise 10 minutes before the interval.
