Swansea City vs. Everton
Minute Commentary
90' FT: SWANSEA 0 EVERTON 3
Goals from Victor Anichebe, Kevin Mirallas and Marouane Fellaini give Everton a deserved victory at the Liberty Stadium and they go second behind Chelsea ahead of this afternoon's games. David Moyes' side are in a rich vein of form at the moment and they never allowed the home side to settle, dominating the early going and no doubt at that stage feeling a little hard done by that they only had a lone 21st-minute strike from Anichebe to show for it. Having said that, when Swansea see the replays they will wonder why they did not appeal more vociferously for handball against Fellaini in the build-up. Michael Laudrup's men finally awoke from their slumbers around the half-hour, with Danny Graham being denied by a goal-line clearance by Phil Jagielka and Michu heading wastefully over. Everton though, refused to let up and were rewarded just before the interval when a poor back-pass from Wayne Routledge gifted a chance to Mirallas and he netted at the second attempt after Vorm had done magnificently to turn his initial effort on to the crossbar. Vorm and his opposite number Howard both made superb stops early in the second half, while Mirallas also hit the crossbar. But the game was as good as up for the home side after Nathan Dyer was shown two yellow cards in three minutes not long after coming on as a substitute, the first for dissent, the second for a rash challenge. Swansea never gave up, but Everton created chance after chance going forward and finally added a third eight minutes from time when Fellaini headed home a Leighton Baines free-kick, aided by a deflection off Ashley Williams.
90' SWANSEA HIT THE BAR
Swansea are denied a late consolation. A wonderful curling free-kick from De Guzman rattles the bar and Shechter's follow-up is blocked.
90' INTO STOPPAGE TIME
There will be three minutes of added time.
89' UNENVIABLE TASK
I'd hate to be picking a man of the match today, Everton have been outstanding from back to front.
86' EVERTON SUBSTITUTIONS
Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo and Magaye Gueye replace Steven Pienaar and Marouane Fellaini.
82' GOAL: SWANSEA 0 EVERTON 3
Marouane Fellaini heads a free-kick from Leighton Baines into the net via a deflection off the head of Ashley Williams. The points are in the bag for the visitors.
81' TRIVIA ANSWER
Earlier we asked you which 1950s Everton forward had scored more goals in this fixture than any other player. The answer: John Willie Parker. Give yourself two points for a correct response, because that was not an easy one.
80' VORM SAVES AGAIN
Vorm does well at his near post to keep out a powerful dipping effort from Anichebe. Fellaini then mis-kicks before Anichebe shoots into the side-netting.
78' WIDE WITH THE GOAL GAPING
How have Everton not managed a third? Baines crosses from the left and Anichebe somehow contrives to miss with his right foot from four yards.
76' TAME TRY BY ANICHEBE
Everton are still pushing forward looking for more goals, but Victor Anichebe screws a tame shot wide of the left-hand upright.
75' TOUGHER TRIVIA TIME
We've had complaints in recent weeks that our trivia questions are becoming as easy as a trip to Peterborough United, so we've toughened things up a little today. A 1950s Everton forward has scored six goals against Swansea in this fixture, the most by any player. Can you name him? Answer in a few minutes.
73' OFF THE LINE
Fellaini sees his near-post header from a Leighton Baines right-wing corner cleared off the line by Leon Britton.
72' SWANSEA SUBSTITUTION
Danny Graham is replaced by Itay Shechter.
71' EVERTON SUBSTITUTION
Kevin Mirallas is replaced by Steven Naismith.
70' EVERTON BOOKING
Leon Osman is booked for a foul challenge.
69' SWANSEA STILL TRYING
De Guzman does wonderfully to escape the clutches of Baines down the Swansea right and his cross is inches too high for the waiting Michu.
67' FELLAINI THE FALL GUY
Fellaini must score! He is unmarked in the centre but scoops a right-foot shot over the bar from eight yards after being unselfishly set up by Anichebe.
64' SWANSEA BOOKING
It's another Swansea caution, this time for Michu, who needlessly hauled back Leon Osman.
61' ONLY HIMSELF TO BLAME
It really was an act of stupidity from Dyer, flying into a tackle shortly after being booked for dissent, which is an inexcusable offence in itself. It's hardly the way to show your manager he made the wrong decision by dropping you from the starting line-up.
59' TOO HIGH FROM MIRALLAS
Kevin Mirallas curls a free-kick over the crossbar.
58' SWANSEA RED CARD
Nathan Dyer is shown his second yellow card in three minutes for a rash tackle on Baines and he's off.
57' TACTICAL SWITCH
Britton is playing in his accustomed position in midfield, with Ki dropping back to play in defence.
56' SWANSEA SUBSTITUTION
Leon Britton replaces Alan Tate.
55' SWANSEA BOOKING
Nathan Dyer is cautioned for dissent.
55' SO CLOSE TO A THIRD
An Everton break really should have yielded a third goal. Fellaini did well to hold off Davies and Mirallas sees an initial shot crash back of the crossbar. The follow-up fell to Anichebe and his strike forced Vorm into a brilliant save. The action went right down the other end and Howard made an equally fine stop to deny Ki.
52' PENALTY CLAIMS IGNORED
Referee Taylor ignores Everton's claims for a penalty after Ki's tackle on Mirallas. Again, it was clumsy, but the player went to ground too easily.
51' FINE STOP FROM HOWARD
Heitinga plays Michui onside down the centre, but Howard makes a fine stop to deny the Spaniard his fifth goal of the season.
50' REFEREE SAVES HOWARD
A poor defensive header by Phil Neville concedes a needless corner, but the official awards a rather generous free-kick in Tim Howard's favour after he rather flapped at the ball.
48' WORDS EXCHANGED
Angel Rangel makes a meal of a tackle by Marouane Fellaini in the hope of getting the Everton man booked. Referee Taylor merely speaks to both players.
46' HERE WE GO AGAIN
Swansea get the second half under way. Nathan Dyer has replaced Pablo at the break.
45' HT: SWANSEA 0 EVERTON 2
Everton lead at the break and they will be happier that unlike against Newcastle on Monday an almost perfect half of football is truly reflected by the scoreline. Victor Anichebe and Kevin Mirallas forced saves from Michel Vorm in the early going and Ashley Williams was lucky to escape with a yellow card for a foul on Anichebe when the striker appeared to be clean through. Anichebe had really looked in the mood right from kick-off and it was no surprise that it was he who opened the scoring on 22 minutes, netting with his left-foot from close range after being set up by Marouane Fellaini. There was, however, more than a hint of handball about the assist. It took Swansea 33 minutes to get a shot on target, but when it came it almost resulted in an equaliser, Danny Graham seeing his effort cleared off the line by Phil Jagielka. That lifted the Swans and Michu, with a header, and Ki, with a right-foot curler, saw efforts go just wide. Everton doubled their advantage just before the interval, Mirallas scoring from close-range with a header after his initial effort had been saved.
45' SWANSEA GO CLOSE
Rangel sneaks in behind Pienaar but his effort strikes the right leg of Howard and goes over the bar. Graham spurns a glorious chance moments later.
44' MORE ON THAT GOAL
It was a terrific goal. Everton broke from the back, Fellaini played the ball inside the left-back to Pienaar, whose low cross from the right found Mirallas all alone. The Belgian saw his initial effort palmed superbly on to the crossbar by Vorm, but was alert to head home the rebound.
43' GOAL: SWANSEA 0 EVERTON 2
Kevin Mirallas doubles Everton's lead.
39' MAGNIFICENT STRIKE
Ki hits a wonderful right-foot curling effort from 25 yards which is a whisker wide of the far post.
37' JUST OVER FROM MICHU
An excellent block by Jagielka deflects Routledge's goalbound shot out for a corner. Michu heads not far over from the set-piece.
34' OFF THE LINE
Howard comes out of his goal to meet Michu, he lays the ball back to Graham and his lofted effort is headed off the line by Phil Jagielka.
33' SO CLOSE FELLAINI
Marouane Fellaini sees a close-range header blocked by Ashley Williams.
32' SHUT IT, MICHU
Swansea's Spanish recruit Michu is told to keep his mouth shut be referee Anthony Taylor, who is growing tired of his complaining.
30' SWANSEA BOOKING
Former Celtic midfielder Ki Sung-Yueng is booked for a tackle on Steven Pienaar.
26' ONE-WAY TRAFFIC
Everton are going for the jugular here. Anichebe swivels but sees his shot soar into the stands, then Fellaini has another effort blocked.
23' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Marouane Fellaini controlled a high ball into the Swansea box, and drew Alan Tate before finding Anichebe, who netted from close range. Replays show the goal provider might have made the final pass with his hand, but the home side are making little of it.
22' GOAL: SWANSEA 0 EVERTON 1
Victor Anichebe gives Everton the lead.
21' ANICHEBE SHOT ON TARGET
Victor Anichebe really does look in the mood today. Alan Tate allows the big Nigerian to turn and shoot, but the strike is straight at Michael Vorm.
19' WIDE FROM PIENAAR
Everton threaten again. Steven Pienaar lays a pass into the feet Victor Anichebe and collects the return ball before side-footing wide of the target.
18' HAPPIER TIMES
Amazing to think it is ten years to the day since Swansea were bottom of the entire Football League.
16' WIDE FROM PABLO
Danny Graham muscles John Heitinga off the ball and heads it back for Hernandez, whose volley slices wide of the right-hand post.
13' A LUCKY LAD
Ashley Williams is shown the yellow card for tripping Anichebe. Alan Tate was not far away, but for me that was a goal-scoring opportunity and the card should have been red. The resulting free-kick is blocked.
10' EVERYTHING BUT THE GOAL
What a start the men in blue have made. You would be a little worried as an Everton fan that once again they do not have the goals on the board that their dominance deserves, just like against Newcastle on Monday night.
6' EVERTON WELL ON TOP
Another Everton free-kick drops to Marouane Fellaini inside the box, but his shot is charged down. Swansea break quickly, but the move breaks down after a terrible pass by Pablo Hernandez.
4' EVERTON GO CLOSE AGAIN
The visitors should be in front. Kevin Mirallas fires straight at Vorm from point-blank range after a pass inside from Anichebe and then loops a tame header straight into the arms of the Swansea goalkeeper.
2' EVERTON GO CLOSE
Everton threaten in the opening minute. Victor Anichebe beats Alan Tate to meet a Leighton Baines free-kick with a flicked header that almost squirms past Michel Vorm.
1' HERE WE GO
Everton kick off, attacking the goal to our right.

0' PREVIEW
Swansea and Everton meet in Saturday's early kick-off in the Premier League, with the carrot of joining Chelsea atop the table on offer to whoever can secure maximum points. Both sides started the season with two victories, but have picked up just a single point from their next two matches. Everton will need to shake off the disappointment of Monday night's 2-2 home draw with Newcastle. They were magnificent in the first half and should have been out of sight at the break. Then in the second half they were denied two clear-cut goals by the officials, firstly when Marouane Fellaini had a goal incorrectly ruled out for offside and then when Victor Anichebe's strike appeared to cross the line only for play to continue. Everton will take some solace from the fact they have never lost to Swansea in any competition and did the double over the Welsh side last season. What's most striking when you look back at the stats from those two meetings is that Swansea had a solitary shot on target in both games, but Toffees manager David Moyes thinks they will prove more of a threat than they did under Brendan Rodgers. “I don't think you're going to see an identical Swansea City as what Brendan had last year,” he told the official Everton website. “I think what they've done Swansea, they look as if they can score goals, I think they've got a little bit more threat. And they've shown that, especially in the amount of goals they've scored in the early part of the season.” Today's game kicks off at 1245BST, so join us around 30 minutes beforehand when we should have the confirmed team news, which will be followed by a match commentary.
0' PLAYERS TO WATCH
Michu has been a revelation for Swansea since joining from Rayo Vallecano in the summer with four goals and an assist in the opening four games. That's a very useful contribution from the midfielder, especially when leading striker Danny Graham has only found the target once. Wayne Routledge, so often on the first-team fringes of the clubs he has played at throughout his career, has also started impressively, contributing three assists. Everton's combative midfielder Marouane Fellaini continues to be the team's leading scorer with two goals, but was unfortunate to have a third disallowed on Monday when a linesman incorrectly adjudged him to be in an offside position. With Nikica Jelavic out injured, the Toffees will be hoping his replacement on Monday night, Victor Anichebe, performs so admirably again. Belgium forward Kevin Mirallas, signed from Olympiacos last month, also caught the eye against Newcastle. “He'll give us another attacking player who looks like he might have a goal in him,” manager David Moyes told Everton's website. “He can play either side for us and he'll play through the middle as well.”
0' HEAD TO HEAD
Everton have the better head-to-head record in league meetings between the sides with ten victories in their 14 meetings, with Swansea yet to record a victory. At the Liberty Stadium and its predecessors, Everton have six wins to none by Swansea, with one meeting ending up all square. The Toffees did the double in this fixture last season, winning 1-0 at Goodison on Dec.21 thanks to a Leon Osman goal and taking the return 2-0 at the Liberty Stadium on Mar.24 courtesy of second-half strikes from Leighton Baines (59 mins) and Nikica Jelavic (76).
0' FORM GUIDE
Swansea start the weekend in fifth place with seven points from four matches, with Everton two places below them with an identical points tally but an inferior goal difference. The Swans scored eight goals in their opening two victories against Queens Park Rangers and West Ham, without conceding themselves. More recently, though, life has been a bit more of a struggle, as a home draw with Sunderland and a 2-0 defeat at Aston Villa will testify. Everton also won their first two matches, against Manchester United and Villa, before losing at West Brom and having to settle for a point from Monday night's home match with Newcastle.
0' EARLY TEAM NEWS
Swansea have injury concerns over a number of players and Ashley Williams, Jonathan de Guzman and Danny Graham will need to come through late fitness tests on respective ankle problems. Midfielder Leon Britton, meanwhile, has been suffering from illness. Already ruled out are Kemy Agustien (calf), Neil Taylor (broken ankle), Chico Flores (suspension), Kyle Bartley (thigh) and Garry Monk (back). New recruits Pablo Hernandez and Ki Sung-yueng will be hoping for their first Premier League starts. Everton will be without striker Nikica Jelavic, who bruised his leg colliding with a post early on in the draw with Newcastle on Monday night. Midfielder Darron Gibson is out for another month as he continues his recovery from a thigh strain while full-back Tony Hibbert is a doubt after picking up a knock. New signing Bryan Oviedo might merit a place on the bench.
0' MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Taking charge of today's game is Anthony Taylor, who has been a member of the Premier League's elite group of referees since 2010. The Manchester-based official refereed 18 games in the top flight last season, showing 56 yellow cards and dismissing four players, Blackburn striker Yakubu, Wolves defender Ronald Zubar, Liverpool goalkeeper Doni (in that memorable match at Blackburn) and Sunderland midfielder Craig Gardner. Neither of his first two top-flight appointments of this season have managed to produce an incident worthy of even a caution, with Taylor keeping his cards in his pocket for both Wigan's trip to Southampton and West Ham's home win over Fulham. Taylor's assistants today are Charles Breakspear and Scott Ledger, while Kevin Friend is the fourth official.
