Minute	Commentary

90'	EVERTON 3, SOUTHAMPTON 1. A deserved win for Everton, who created many more clear-cut opportunities than Southampton. The visitors started well, taking the lead after three minutes through Gaston Ramirez. Perhaps if Jay Rodriguez had converted his one-on-one opportunity on 12 minutes, the result may have been different. Everton's tactical prowess won it for them, as the Saints couldnt handle the Toffees' attacks on the flanks. In the space of ten minutes, goals from Leon Osman and Nikica Jelavic (2) decided the game. The second half lacked intensity, as for all Southampton's possesion, they only tested Tim Howard once. A good win for Everton at the expense of the Saints' fifth loss in six games.

85'	GREAT SAVE Steven Davis finds Rickie Lambert with a pinpoint cross. Lambert does well to hit the target with a powerful header but Tim Howard shows great instincts to flap the ball away.
81'	DOUBLE CHANGE Emmanuel Mayuka and Ben Reeves come on to replace Nathaniel Clyne and Jay Rodriguez. Possibly too little too late from the visitors, who need to find two goals in the last eight minutes at Goodison Park.
80'	SUBSTITUTION Everton make their second change of the game. Kevin Mirallas is replaced by Bryan Oviedo.
76'	SUBSTITUTION It's David Moyes who feels that a change is needed. Nikica Jelavic, who has just returned from injury, is replaced by Victor Anichebe. Jelavic receives a great ovation for his performance.
73'	SLOPPY Southampton are starting to see more of the ball as Everton have just taken their foot off the gas. Perhaps this would be a good time for Nigel Adkins to make a change and attempt to make an impact on the game.
70'	SO CLOSE Gaston Ramirez almost pulls one back for the Saints. The Everton defence are caught as Ramirez strolls through, beating the offside trap. He dinks it over Tim Howard with a neat lob but it goes just wide.
67'	GOOD SAVE Kevin Mirallas picks the ball up around 30 yards out, he turns and just runs at the defence before unleashing a low, driven shot towards goal. A good save from Paulo Gazzaniga puts it behind for a fruitless corner.
65'	DECENT SPELL Southampton are having a decent spell in and around the Everton penalty area but can't make it count. Adam Lallana's misguided cross relieves Everton of some good pressure from the Saints.
62'	GETTING CLOSER Everton are pushing for a fourth goal, which would effectively end the game. It's another Marouane Fellaini shot which is driven towards the corner of the goal but Paulo Gazzaniga is equal to it once again.
60'	WIDE Everton manage to get a cross in through Seamus Coleman. It is cleared to Leon Osman, whose inswinging shot flies just past the post.
59'	GOOD SAVE Marouane Fellaini receives the ball in midfield. He just turns and toe-pokes it fiercely towards goal. The 25-yarder forces Paulo Gazzaniga to turn the ball around the post.
55'	RISK NEEDED Southampton are attempting to get back into this game without committing too many players - we have seen how dangerous Everton can be on the break. However, it's all too comfortable for the home side and the visitors have to shake things up a bit. They do have Jason Puncheon on the bench and as the game progresses, his introduction is only more likely.
52'	CORNER Everton earn another corner, which Steven Pienaar takes short to Leighton Baines, whose first touch isn't good enough as he runs it out for a goal kick.
49'	SLOW START The second half hasn't started with the same intensity as the first. It seems that the Saints have reshuffled in order to quell the wide threat that Everton have. However, Everton are happy to play slowly as it's Southampton that have to push forward to get something out of the game.
46'	UNCHANGED Both sides are unchanged after the break but Nigel Adkins must have something special up his sleeve if he is to turn this game around.
46'	KICK OFF Lee Probert gets the second half underway as the Saints trail by three goals to one.
45'	FIRST HALF SUMMARY Contrary to the scoreline, Southampton haven't actually done too badly. They started fantastically, catching Everton off guard with an early goal from Gaston Ramirez. They could have added to that lead shortly after, when Jay Rodriguez scuffed his shot when bearing down on goal. A 12-minute spell of genius changed this game as the Saints were caught time and time again on the right flank. A brace from Nikica Jelavic and a tap-in from Leon Osman give Everton the lead. Just before the break, Marouane Fellaini almost made it four, when his header hit the bar from Kevin Mirallas' corner.
45'	HALF TIME The half time whistle is music to Nigel Adkins' ears. He has some serious work to do at half time. Everton 3, Southampton 1.
45'	TOO EASY Everton have acres of space on the right-hand side time after time. A series of crosses result in a corner, from which Marouane Fellaini is only denied by the crossbar.
45'	SAVE Some slow build up this time from Everton, but nevertheless they get the ball into the Saints' area. This time it's Marouane Fellaini with the header but Paulo Gazzaniga is equal to it.
42'	CHANGE OF POSITION Kevin Mirallas seems to have changed wings and since then the Toffees have scored three times! He is causing all sorts of problems and his cross once again finds Nikica Jelavic, who can't control his header.
39'	MORE ON THAT GOAL Leighton Baines had far too much time on the left, and found Nikica Jelavic, whose header was expertly saved by Paulo Gazzaniga, and the rebound from Marouane Fellaini was blocked by Nathaniel Clyne but the Saints never really cleared it. Seamus Coleman's cross from the right finds NIKICA JELAVIC at the back post who nets his second of the game. Everton 3, Southampton 1.
38'	GOOOAAALLL Nikica Jelavic makes it 3-1 to Everton.
36'	INCREASING PRESSURE The Saints are in danger of going further behind as Leighton Baines' cross in only just evades Nikica Jelavic, who is looking for his second goal of the game. Minutes later, Jelavic looks to be through on goal but the flag is up.
34'	MORE ON THAT GOAL Once again, Everton turn defence into attack very quickly and Marouane Fellaini finds Kevin Mirallas, who slips in NIKICA JELAVIC. Paulo Gazzaniga is out very quickly and seems to have closed down the angle too much, but Jelavic somehow slips it past him with his left foot. Everton 2, Southampton 1.
33'	GOOOAAALLL Nikica Jelavic puts the home side ahead.
29'	VUNERABLE FROM THE FLANKS Southampton have failed to defend well from the flanks so far, and that was the cause of the goal. The defence are having all sorts of problems defending one-on-ones from the wings, but it's the fault of the midfield, who aren't helping out defensively at all. This time Kevin Mirallas flies past Nathaniel Clyne, who concedes a free kick.
27'	MORE ON THAT GOAL Everton exploit the flanks again, and it's Kevin Mirallas' cross in that finds Nikica Jelavic who nods it down for LEON OSMAN, who finishes it with ease from eight yards out. Everton 1, Southampton 1.
26'	GOOOAAALLL Leon Osman equalises for the home side.
23'	CORNER Southampton look good for their lead and come forward again. Phil Jagielka stops the attack at the expense of a corner, which finds its way through to Rickie Lambert, who mistimes his jump and nods wide. More alarm bells for Everton as the set piece causes problems once again.
20'	CAN'T FIND A WAY THROUGH A nice spell of possession for the Toffees as they pass the ball nicely around the penalty area. Nikica Jelavic and later Steven Pienaar try to find space inside the area but the final balls can't quite find them.
18'	AMBITIOUS Buoyed by his first goal, Gaston Ramirez has a go from long range but gets it all wrong as his shot flies well over.
15'	DREAM START This is a perfect start for the visitors as they have settled very quickly and caught Everton by surprise. Their great positivity has been rewarded with an early goal but they have to be very careful as Everton are starting to create chances.
12'	SHOULD HAVE BEEN TWO John Heitinga is caught flat-footed as Jay Rodriguez races past him, but his shot flies wide. Disappointing as he should at least test the keeper there - it was a tight angle but still a great chance for the Saints to double their lead.
10'	GREAT CHANCE An unmarked situation at the other end now. Leighton Baines' corner finds John Heitinga completely on his own, but his header is straight at the keeper. Let off for the Saints.
8'	MORE ON THAT GOAL A long corner from Rickie Lambert reaches GASTON RAMIREZ at the far post. He is completely unmarked and makes no mistake. A great start for the visitors, especially as Everton hadn't conceded a first half goal so far this season.
7'	GOOOAAALLL Gaston Ramirez puts the Saints ahead early on.
5'	GREAT RUN Maya Yoshida races through the midfield and is unchallenged for around 40 yards, but he is eventually disposessed.
3'	POSITIVE FROM SAINTS Southampton aren't afraid to get forward early on as bodies surge through to the Everton penalty area, but the cross is too tame and fizzles through to Paulo Gazzaniga.

0'	SOUTHAMPTON LINE-UP Paulo Gazzaniga starts for the Saints today. He is preferred to Kelvin Davis and Artur Boruc. Maya Yoshida maintains his place in the heart of defence, as Jos Hooiveld starts on the bench after being eased back into action in Southampton's midweek fixture. Familiar faces also return for the home side, including top-scorer Rickie Lambert. Jason Puncheon gives Nigel Adkins an attacking option on the bench.

The last time they met in the top flight was in the 04/05 season, when Everton won 1-0 at home and the tie at St. Mary's Stadium ended in a 2-2 stalemate.
0'	SOUTHAMPTON TEAM NEWS Southampton will welcome the return of Jos Hooiveld, who has recovered after suffering a knee injury during the Saints' 6-1 thrashing at the Emirates. His return could spell the end of stop-gap defender Maya Yoshida's run in the side; he is expected to be dropped back down to the bench this afternoon. Jack Cork is out of contention for around six weeks after sustaining a knee injury midweek.Tadanari Lee, Emmanuel Mayuka and Luke Shaw are all still doubtful, although could be picked depending on the results of their late fitness tests. Nigel Adkins has a better kind of selection dilemma between the nets though, with Artur Boruc, Kelvin Dalvis and Paulo Gazzaniga all pushing for a place. Gazzaniga is expected to maintain his place from last week's win against Aston Villa.
0'	EVERTON TEAM NEWS After an early exit from the Capital One Cup during midweek, the Blues will welcome back a number of first team regulars, all of whom were rested on Tuesday night. Nikica Jelavic looks set to make a return to Premier League action. Back from a knee injury, he featured against Leeds and is in contention to start against the Saints today. Moyes does have some problems elsewhere though; there are injury concerns about Seamus Coleman, Steven Naismith and Victor Anichebe. Tony Hibbert and Darron Gibson are still unavailable.
0'	PREVIEW Usual slow-starters Everton have enjoyed a great start to the season and today will host newly-promoted side, Southampton. A win today would see Everton equal their best ever points tally after six games in the Premier League, which they achieved in 2004, recording 13 points from a possible 18. It's hard to judge Southampton's start to the season and they will feel unlucky to be hovering above the bottom three – they have faced last season's top three sides already and but for late comebacks from City and United, they would have taken points from both Manchester clubs. When you look at Southampton's poor defence so far, Everton's goal scoring form, and the Toffees' superb reputation at Goodison Park, you would expect David Moyes' men to record their fourth win of the campaign, but Nigel Adkins' men won't make it easy for them.
