West Bromwich Albion vs. Queens Park Rangers
Minute Commentary
90' FULL TIME REPORT
West Brom eventually prevailed in this game despite a late surge from a determined QPR side who remain bottom after a 3-2 loss. West Brom opened the scoring after just three minutes through James Morrison - the winger headed in beautifully from a Shane Long cross. The hosts doubled their money on the 20 minute mark as Morrison turned provider to set up Hungarian Zoltan Gera. QPR replied in emphatic fashion through Adel Taarabt. West Brom squandered countless chances and went into the break leading by a single goal. The second half was a different story. QPR were a much changed side and threatened Ben Foster's goal on several occasions but couldn't find a way past the ex-England international. After much pressure from the visitors, an excellent move to the right of centre by West Brom enabled them to work themselves into the box before the ball was squared back to Youssouf Mulumbu who sealed the points. Esteban Granero finished wonderfully in injury time before Jose Bosingwa missed by the tightest of margins. West Brom survived the late onslaught to emerge as 3-2 victors and keep their 100% home record intact.
90' FULL TIME
After a dramatic last few seconds, Mike Jones blows his whistle to end a very exciting game.
90' HOW'S HE MISSED?
Jose Bosingwa has a magnificent chance to level with seconds left but he curls just over when he should have scored.
90' GOOOAAALLL!
And as I say that, QPR score! It is only a consolation though. Esteban Granero side foots the ball past a stranded Ben Foster. It's his first goal for the club.
90' FOUR MINUTES ADDED
QPR need a miracle if they're to grab a point, never mind all three. The scoreline isn't entirely reflective of the performance though.
88' KEEPING IT TOO LONG
Junior Hoilett works his way into the box and weaves around numerous players but when he goes to hit the ball he's surrounded by players in blue and white and his shot is blocked.
86' STILL LOOKING
That goal means Mark Hughes' search for three points on the road goes on. It was never going to be easy to get them today looking at how strong West Brom are at home.
84' GOOOAAALLL!
Game over now, surely. Some absolutely brilliant passing from the home side ends in Youssouf Mulumbu slotting past Julio Cesar to make it 3-1.
82' TEN MINUTES LEFT
Time is running out for QPR as Mark Hughes looks for his first win as manager of the West London club. West Brom are slowly getting back on top of the game though.
79' NOT ROLLING OVER
West Brom are adamant that they'll come out on top here and have upped their game a little in the last five minutes, coming forward with promise. Out of nothing James Morrison smashes the ball inches past Cesar's right hand post.
77' BACK AND FORTH
A neat ball in from James Morrison has resulted in pinball between the players with the ball going back and forth. That piece of play has really mirrored this game on a whole. Either team can win it.
75' IMPRESSIVE
Adel Taarabt is whipping out the tricks and his play on the ball has been mesmerising today. He's proved a real handful to deal with and will be crucial in finding his side a leveller.
72' WAITING GAME
The away side are knocking on the door but aren't allowed to enter - you can see why West Brom have only conceded once here this season. QPR have no real intent going forward however, despite their options.
70' PENNED IN
West Brom can't find a way out of their defensive third as QPR are applying relentless pressure to their goal in hope of finding an equaliser.
67' CHANCE
Both sides are struggling and both seem to be resorting to the long ball. Esteban Granero works his way into a great position before firing wide when he had bodies around him.
65' CALMING DOWN
The game has lost the fast-paced tempo it had and both sides are keeping the ball in the midfield area. QPR need to be sharper going forward.
62' LIKE FOR LIKE
As thought, Lukaku and Rosenberg do enter the fray in place of Peter Odemwingie and Shane Long. Steve Clarke has now made all three changes but there's still half an hour to go.
61' POSITIVE ATTITUDE
The visitors are taking the game to West Brom instead of sitting back like they originally were.
59' GOING FOR IT
Romelu Lukaku and Markus Rosenberg are preparing to come on. They'll add real firepower to this West Brom team and may possibly put the hosts back in control.
57' CLOSE AGAIN
Stephane M'bia gets away from his marker but just misses Esteban Granero's corner. If he'd connected he would have surely made it 2-2 and QPR would have deservedly been level.
55' DIFFERENT TEAM
QPR look to have new life in this second half and it's been all them. West Brom need to regain a hold of this game otherwise they could be open to losing their lead.
53' BALL GREEDY
Shaun Wright-Phillips gets sent through just to the right of the penalty area but slices his shot wide instead of looking up for bodies in the box. Very greedy from the ex-Chelsea man.
52' BEGGING TO BE HEADED IN
Gonzalo Jara plays in a beautiful cross right onto the penalty spot and it's crying to be nodded home but no West Brom player can get near it.
50' SLOWING IT DOWN
QPR seem bizarrely content at being 2-1 down as they play the ball between defenders in an attempt to lure West Brom forward. Possibly in hope of finding an opening for a long ball.
48' WAY OVER
Jose Bosingwa receives the ball out wide and runs forward, but his effort is so high it would have scored a try in rugby!
46' UNDERWAY AGAIN
West Brom get the second half up and running. Gabriel Tamas is replaced by Gonzalo Jara.
45' HALF TIME REPORT
West Brom went into the half time break 2-1 up thanks to goals from James Morrison and Zoltan Gera. QPR did manage to pull a goal back though, Adel Taarabt with a magnificent volley inside the area. It all started brilliantly for West Brom and there were only three minutes on the clock when they took the lead. Great work from Shane Long allowed him to play a whipped ball straight onto Morrison's head and the winger made no mistake in putting the Baggies 1-0 up. It got better on 20 minutes. Morrison turned provider when he played in a low driven ball which was only half cleared by Anton Ferdinand but Zoltan Gera pounced to double the lead. The goal of the game came through Adel Taarabt though - the tricky midfielder took down a high through ball and displayed amazing technique to volley past Ben Foster. A deserved lead at half time for West Brom who could have had more if they had their shooting boots firmly on.
45' HALF TIME
Mike Jones blows his whistle and signals the end of the first period.
45' ANOTHER CHANCE
Zoltan Gera again goes for goal from 25 yards but sees his effort fly inches over. It was poor defending on QPR's part, however.
43' BOOKING
Ji-Sung Park goes into Mike Jones' notebook after yet another poor challenge. He's been going in very strong this afternoon and needs to tone it down.
42' MARVELLOUS OPPORTUNITY
Zoltan Gera evades the QPR right back and is in on goal, only to be denied by a world class save from Julio Cesar.
40' BIDING TIME
QPR are patiently passing the ball along the edge of West Brom's box waiting for the right chance to take a shot on goal. They're looking very established in this game now.
38' AWFUL PASS
QPR wastefully play the ball to Shane Long who runs towards the visitors' box but goes for a goal when he really should have played in Peter Odemwingie. Good chance there.
35' INTO THEIR STRIDE
That goal has really got QPR playing now, they're going forward with conviction but can't break a stubborn defence.
33' RECORD GONE
West Brom were one of only two teams in Europe's top six divisions to have not conceded at home before that goal. They're still looking strong at the back.
32' GOOOAAALLL!
Wow. What a goal. A lofted through ball from Esteban Granero is chested down by Adel Taarabt and the Moroccan smashes a volley past a helpless Ben Foster. Game on.
30' DOMINATING
West Brom are having everything their own way and could be four or five up. Youssouf Mulumbu is the latest to try his luck but his effort is deflected towards Shane Long whose tame header is straight at Julio Cesar.
27' RECKLESS
Ji-Sung Park flies in high on Zoltan Gera and catches him on his upper leg, Gera appears to be in a bit of pain. Mark Hughes needs to calm his players down or they're in danger of going into the ref's notebook.
26' COMES TO NOTHING
The visitors come forward with midfield maestro Adel Taarabt but his little dink through is straight into the grateful arms of Ben Foster.
24' MAN DOWN
West Brom will have to play with ten men for a little while as Youssouf Mulumbu goes off to receive treatment.
22' IDEALESS
QPR look like they don't know what they're doing. Every pass is intercepted and they need to change their tactics soon if they're to grab a goal.
19' GOOOAAALLLL!
West Brom double their advantage with a well worked move. James Morrison runs down the wing and plays in a lovely ball. Anton Ferdinand goes to clear the ball but it lands at Zoltan Gera's feet who smashes home from close distance.
18' DANGEROUS POSITION
Clint Hill completely takes out a Youssouf Mulumbu and gives away a needless free kick. The home side have a good chance to try and increase their lead here.
16' COMING CLOSE
Zoltan Gera tries his luck from range and the ball takes a slight deflection off a man in red. The shot nearly catches Julio Cesar out but the 'keeper does well to adjust and catch.
14' UNLUCKY
QPR make their way forward and have woken up now but the ball just isn't falling for their talisman Bobby Zamora.
12' GLORIOUS CHANCE
The hosts counter with real sharpness and Peter Odemwingie makes his way down the line and puts in a delightful cross to Shane Long who smashes the ball over when he should score.
10' NO SUPPORT
QPR are having their fair share of the possession but they've got no forwards offering any support and can't make their way towards Ben Foster's goal.
8' WASTEFUL
A set piece from QPR is cleared by a West Brom defender and Jose Bosingwa blazes his effort well over the crossbar when he could have played it back into the mix.
7' LOOKING COMFORTABLE
The home side look extremely composed on the ball when going forward. They're playing in some good through balls but unfortunately there's no end product.
5' CRUNCHING TACKLE
Claudio Yacob brings down Stephane M'bia with a very strong challenge. The referee only feels the need to have a word with him though. QPR are looking for a quick response to that early goal.
3' GOOOAAALLL!
West Brom lead through a great header from James Morrison. The goal was created because of a superb cross from Irishman Shane Long.

0' QPR TEAM NEWS
Just three changes for QPR following their 2-1 defeat at home to West Ham United on Monday, Full line-up: Cesar; Bosingwa, Ferdinand, Nelsen, Hill; Granero, M'bia; Wright-Phillips, Taarabt, Park; Zamora. Subs: Green, Traore, Onuoha, Faurlin, Cisse, Mackie, Hoilett.
0' WEST BROM TEAM NEWS
An interesting fact here about the West Brom starting 11 - every single player belongs to a different nationality. Full line-up: Foster; Tamas, McAuley, Olsson, Popov; Yacob, Mulumbu; Gera, Morrison, Odemwingie; Long. Subs: Daniels, Dorrans, Dawson, Jara, Fortune, Lukaku, Rosenberg.
0' PREVIEW
West Brom head into this game hoping to extend their 100% start to the season at The Hawthorns against a QPR team still looking for their first win on the road under Mark Hughes. Good performances have been hard to come by for Hughes' side so far as the Loftus Road club languish at the bottom of the table after six unconvincing league games. It's quite the opposite story for the Midlands club, stringing together several astute showings on the pitch this term, failing to win on only one occasion as they went down 3-0 to Fulham at Craven Cottage.
0' GOOD MOMENTUM
West Brom's home form has been nothing short of stupendous this campaign and this is mainly down to Steve Clarke whose ubiquitous influence on the squad has been evident for all to see - the Midlands side sit 6th in the table. A win today would see them collect their fourth home victory in a row and maintain a brilliant start to the season, a feat which hasn't been achieved by the Baggies since 1984. Clarke's side will be hoping to take advantage of a poor start to the season for Hughes' men, and mixed with the fantastic results at The Hawthorns so far, it's difficult to see anything other than a home win.
0' MISFIRING HOOPS
With only four goals to their name so far, the West London side boast the joint worst attacking record in the Premier League, and heavily rely on Bobby Zamora to chip in with the goals - the ex-Fulham striker has bagged three of the four goals QPR have scored this term. The Hoops' fans can take solace from the fact they've scored one goal in every away league game this season, but they'll have to be on top form to pierce through a stubborn West Brom defence yet to concede at home.
0' HEAD TO HEAD
A result mirroring last season's corresponding fixture would be ideal for Steve Clarke's men - they triumphed 1-0 over QPR here last time round. Recent history doesn't bode well for the visitors; the last time they won at The Hawthorns was back in 1985 thanks to a solitary strike from Michael Robinson. This game has been a Championship fixture in recent years and has promised goals more often than not - four of the six Championship meetings have resulted in four or more goals, with two of the games ending as six goals thrillers.
0' MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Cheshire-born Mike Jones will officiate today's game at The Hawthorns. A top flight referee since 2008, Jones is taking charge of his fourth Premier League game this season and is not afraid to reach for the cards having already issued 11 yellows so far but is yet to dismiss a player. Each game the 44 year old has refereed this season has resulted in at least two goals for the visitors. Could this be an omen for QPR?
