Minute Commentary
90' WIGAN ATHLETIC 2, EVERTON 2.
The two teams share the points after an exciting 90 minutes of football. The Latics had the lead at the break and after 60 minutes, the home side could argue that Everton should have been a nine-man side, after Nikica Jelavic and Marouane Fellaini received only yellow cards for elbows. Everton never gave up and earned a late penalty, which former Wigan man Leighton Baines converted to deny the Latics their first home win of the campaign. Shaun Maloney could have given the home side a late winner but in the end it's a fair result for both sides.

Piennar runs the length of the pitch in a final roll of the dice but he runs it out of play and the referee brings the game to an end.

Nikica Jelavic gets a shot away under pressure from Maynor Figueroa, which is skewed wide. The Everton fans are screaming for a penalty and there does appear to be contact between the two players but a penalty would have been a little harsh.

Emmerson Boyce finds space in the area but instead of pulling the trigger, he lays it off to Arouna Kone, who skews his shot wide.

Ali Al Habsi seems to have jarred his shoulder and the physio comes on to have a look. Mike Pollitt begins to warm up but Wigan will hope that Al Habsi can continue as he has been fantastic today.

Everton are applying all of the pressure at the moment, with a barrage of crosses coming in from all angles. The Wigan defenders are doing well and David Moyes barks commands at his players from the sidelines. He is becoming impatient and he may look to change things up soon.

Steven Pienaar pulls the trigger from distance and Ali Al Habsi sees it late. Nevertheless he manages to tip the ball around the post.

A rapid Wigan counter attack almost results in a third goal as Shaun Maloney finds Arouna Kone in the box, but Phil Jagielka makes a superb last-ditch challenge to deny the striker.
60' YELLOW CARDS
Leighton Baines gets cautioned but minutes later the Wigan fans are enraged as Nikica Jelavic seems to raise an arm into the face of a defender. It's an off-the-ball incident and the Latics don't even get a free kick in another strange decision from the referee.

Jean Beausejour plays a great ball into the area and Franco Di Santo beats Sylvain Distin to the ball but he nods it wide. The intent was there, though, and Wigan are looking to add to their lead.

James McCarthy is the second man to be cautioned this afternoon.

Another Everton attack finds its' way to Kevin Mirallas, whose shot is saved by Ali Al Habsi, who immediately berates his defence for allowing the winger too much space. Everton are looking increasingly dangerous.

Everton break well down the left and Steven Pienaar picks out Kevin Mirallas but his right-footed effort travels wide.

Sylvain Distin's introduction gives him his 100th appearance in the Premier League. He replaced John Heitinga who was struggling with Arouna Kone's pace for the entire first half.

The second half has started as the first one finished. Both sides have a corner within the first 90 seconds, but both are defended well.

45' FIRST HALF SUMMARY
Blink and you'll miss it - the action has been non-stop at the DW this afternoon. The Latics went ahead after 10 minutes when Arouna Kone headed home from close range but Everton pegged them back immediately with a similar goal from Nikica Jelavic. Wigan regained control after the equaliser and Franco Di Santo put them ahead after 23 minutes. Shortly after, his fantastic volley was tipped wide from Tim Howard. Everton had chances too. Leon Osman's deflected shot was expertly saved and Leighton Baines hit the post just before half time. Another talking point was Marouane Fellaini's elbow on Maynor Figueroa, for which he luckily only received a booking.
45' HALF TIME
The referee calls time on a thrilling first half at the DW Stadium. Wigan Athletic 2, Everton 1.
45' YELLOW CARD
Marouane Fellaini is a very lucky boy. He catches Maynor Figueroa with an elbow in the face and both teams immediately surround the referee. The linesman flags for a foul but the referee only brandishes a yellow card. The crowd are screaming for a red and they have reason to feel unlucky.

Leighton Baines races through to the byline and from an improbable angle he beats Ali Al Habsi but is denied by the inside of the post. Marouane Fellaini doesn't react quickly enough, though.
39' LOSING CONCENTRATION
Wigan have to be careful not to lose concentration in the final five minutes of the half. James McArthur loses the ball very cheaply and tries to win it back unfairly. Luckily for him, Leighton Baines' free kick is blocked by the wall.
37' GREAT PACE
Arouna Kone has nobody in support but goes alone, beating John Heitinga for pace once again. The defenders recover well to put the ball behind for a fruitless corner.
34' STRANGE DECISION
Maynor Figueroa brings Nikica Jelavic down in Wigan's defending third. The referee gives a free kick but that is all - that foul certainly warrants a card, especially after Shaun Maloney was booked for much less earlier.
32' UNBELIEVABLE SAVE
A left-footed shot from Leon Osman takes a wicked deflection of Gary Caldwell but Ali Al Habsi shows superb reactions, somehow clawing it away with his right hand.

Roberto Martinez has got a bunch of hard-workers on the field today. They are chasing every ball, giving Everton very little time in possession and beating them for pace all over the field.

Shaun Maloney finds Franco Di Santo, who darts inside from the left wing and hits a spectacular volley, which forces Tim Howard to tip it wide for a corner. The resulting corner finds its' way to Shaun Maloney but he cant hit the target.

Arouna Kone could let the ball go out for a corner but instead he takes the initiative, racing past John Heitinga and squaring it for FRANCO DI SANTO, who slams the ball into the roof of the net from the penalty spot.

Shaun Maloney is a little over-zealous in his attempt to win the ball back and is punished - albeit a little harshly - by the referee.
18' NOT ENTIRELY COMFORTABLE
The three frontmen of Wigan Athletic are causing Everton problems. Seamus Coleman and Leighton Baines are getting forward and leaving gaps at the back for Wigan to exploit.
15' NOT DISHEARTENED
Considering that they had the lead for less than 60 seconds, Wigan Athletic don't seem too disheartened and are firing in crosses, looking to take the lead again. Arouna Kone can't quite make the most of the opportunities, though.

The celebrations had barely ended and Everton find an equaliser. We said that Everton would prove a threat from the wings and that is indeed how the goal comes about. Wigan are caught napping and allow Steven Pienaar too much space on the left. He finds NIKICA JELAVIC at the back post and he makes no mistake.

He has refereed three Premier League games so far this season, including that explosive opening day match-up between Stoke and Reading, in which he sent Dean Whitehead off. In total, he's given eight yellow cards (plus a second yellow to Whitehead) in only three games.
0' WIGAN ATHLETIC TEAM NEWS
The home side are relatively injury-free, with only Antolin Alcaraz ruled out with a groin injury. Fraser Fyvie is also slightly doubtful to feature after he picked up an ankle knock. However, the Latics' appeal over Jordi Gomez' three-match ban was successful and he is available to face the Toffees today. He will have some competition though, with Franco Di Santo rapidly recovering from injury.
0' EVERTON TEAM NEWS
With Darron Gibson and Tony Hibbert still sidelined, it is expected that Seamus Coleman will retain his place at right-back, with Philip Neville filling in the midfield. This layout has suited Everton so far this season, allowing Kevin Mirallas to show his flair on the right wing, which was the key to overcoming a strong Southampton side last week. Steven Naismith missed the game with the Saints last Saturday and there are still doubts over his fitness.

Today's game sees high-flying Everton travel to the DW Stadium to test a struggling Wigan side, who have suffered their worst start to a Premier League season. Coming off the back of three straight defeats, the Latics could really do with some points today. Everton possess a real threat on the wings, with Kevin Mirallas and Seamus Coleman linking on the right, and Leighton Baines and Steven Pienaar marauding the left flank. It will be interesting to see how Wigan cope with their three-man defence against a team that have such attacking prowess in the wide areas. But don't rule out a home win – Wigan have shown erratic spells of great competence, such as last year when they started the dethroning of Manchester United out of nowhere with a 1-0 win over the Red Devils.
