Newcastle United earn an undeserved point as Liverpool fail to make good on their large majority of possession. The home side came into the second half with a one-goal deficit but Luis Suarez soon levelled things up with an incredible piece of skill. Fabricio Coloccini was sent off five minutes from time for a dangerous challenge on Suarez. From there, Liverpool came forward constantly, with Jonjo Shelvey coming closest but Newcastle United held on to take a draw.

The resulting free kick is taken by Steven Gerrard. Jonjo Shelvey jumps highest but is denied by the crossbar. That's the final chance for Liverpool as the game comes to an end. Liverpool 1, Newcastle United 1.

A superb equaliser for the home side! Jose Enrique plays a long ball from the halfway line but it's all about LUIS SUAREZ, who controls the ball superbly before taking it past Fabricio Coloccini. He then rounds Tim Krul and finishes into an empty net.

The game has picked up in the last few minutes. Newcastle United come forward and Sammy Ameobi beats Martin Skrtel initially but the defender recovers to set up an attack of his own. Steven Gerrard receives it from Luis Suarez and the Liverpool legend is about to take aim when Fabricio Coloccini comes out of nowhere to regain possession for the visitors.

Luis Suarez finds some space and immediately pulls the trigger. It's unclear if it was going marginally wide or not but Tim Krul plays it safe and tips wide. Their ninth corner is as useless as the previous eight.
57' KRUL ANGERS THE LIVERPOOL FANS
Tim Krul has been taking an age on goal kicks throughout and each time an echo of boos fills the stadium. Enough is enough and this time Krul gets a warning from the ref.
54' FOUL STOPS LIVERPOOL ATTACK
The whistle saves Newcastle as Tim Krul comes out to punch a cross away. Not for the first time, his attempted clearance falls to a Liverpool player but this time Luis Suarez is penalised for a foul on the Newcastle keeper.
52' NASTY FOUL
Raheem Sterling goes in very hard on Papiss Cisse and the Newcastle forward is helped off the pitch to receive some treatment. Steven Gerrard and Sterling have a lengthy discussion with the referee and the offender gets away with a talking to.

Newcastle United are forced to make their second change of the game, with Demba Ba - who was doubtful with a calf injury before the game - is replaced by Sammy Ameobi. It does seem that the calf injury is the cause of this change.
49' SIMILAR START
It's pretty much a replica of the opening few minutes at Anfield as Liverpool come forward, earning a couple of corners in the process. Newcastle United deal with the danger though.

Liverpool had 60% possession in the first half, and they had eight shots, of which only one was on target. Perhaps they are paying for their lack of strikers today as for all their dominance, they are behind.

45' FIRST HALF SUMMARY
On the whole, Liverpool have probably been the better side in this first period, especially in the first 15 minutes. As has been the case throughout the season, however, they failed to make early chances count and allowed Newcastle United to grow into the game. Yohan Cabaye grabbed a late goal for the Magpies with a drilled shot. We're only halfway through the game but can Liverpool's young team turn this around?

Steven Gerrard's mistake affords Steven Taylor a free shot on goal but it comes as a surprise and he can't make the most of it. That's the last shot of the half as the visitors go into the break a goal to the good.
44' MORE ON THAT GOAL
All that domination from Liverpool is worth nothing now, as Newcastle United take the lead. Hatem Ben Arfa, who has been quiet so far, makes a superb run down the right before cutting it back. The ball rolls out to YOHAN CABAYE, who drills it into the goal. Brad Jones is partly to blame as he dives far too early and the ball goes over his outstretched arm.

Suso Saez makes a weaving run before cutting inside and trying to beat Tim Krul at his near post. It takes a deflection and loops over. Perhaps he should have tried to curl it into the far corner.

Steven Gerrard tries to mark his milestone appearance with a long-range lobbed effort but it's a little too ambitious and goes over.

Luis Suarez is playing well but there's nothing he can do all alone up front. To make matters worse, Brendan Rodgers has no strikers on the bench either - the most attacking option is Oussama Assaidi but he's a winger.

Today's referee Andy Taylor is showing no leniency but his overzealous use of the whistle is causing constant breaks in play.

Liverpool seem a little disheartened that they didn't score in their early spell of pressure. If anything, Newcastle United are coming forward a little more now, but neither side are committing too many players.

After a few minutes on the pitch, James Perch fails to shake off that injury and has to be replaced. Danny Simpson comes on and seems to have gone to right-back. Vurnon Anita takes up that defensive midfield place.

Joe Allen uncharacteristically gives the ball away in his own half. Fabricio Coloccini picks it up and has club top-scorer in space to his right but for some reason tries to go alone. He runs into three Liverpool defenders - stick to defending, Fabricio.
14' LIVERPOOL FINALLY FINDING SOME HOME FORM?
A win today would be the first time Liverpool have recorded back-to-back wins at home since August-September 2011. Judging by the first 15 minutes of action, they are looking likely to score first at least.
11' EARLY SURVIVAL
Newcastle United have done well to survive an early Liverpool onslaught. The red shirts aren't coming forward quite as eagerly now and a frustrated Raheem Sterling tries a long range shot, which goes nowhere near the target.
8' ALL LIVERPOOL
It's a really good start for Liverpool and they're constantly coming forward, with particular danger coming from the flanks. They win another corner but Tim Krul just about palms it away at full stretch.
6' HALF-HEARTED PENALTY APPEAL
Well, it was only a matter of time before this was going to happen: Luis Suarez goes down in the penalty area. The ref rightly waves play on.
4' BRIGHT START FOR LIVERPOOL
Liverpool pass the ball around quickly and Raheem Sterling's energy is causing all sorts of problems early on. Luckily Fabricio Coloccini is in the right place and halts the Liverpool attack. The Reds earn two corners in quick succession but they come to nothing.

Vurnon Anita brings Raheem Sterling down on the edge of the area with a very strong challenge. Perhaps if it was later in the game he would've received a yellow card. The resulting free kick is punched away by Tim Krul, denying Luis Suarez a free header.
