The onus was on Reading to try and earn their first win of the season, but they failed to test John Ruddy in the Norwich goal. Big chance for Reading. Sebastien Bassong loses the ball and Noel Hunt plays the ball into the path of Roberts. His cross is blocked for a corner by Turner, which is then hit straight into the path of Javier Garrido, who clears the ball for a throw. The hosts are beginning to look lively, but Norwich are holding firm.

Nicky Shorey crosses into the path of Kaspars Gorkss. The defender scored the opener against QPR last week, but can't repeat the feat and heads the ball wide of goal. The Reading fans groan, as it's the first real chance their side have created.

Jay Tabb was hugely impressive last week against QPR and Brian McDermott will be hoping for a similar dynamic performance in midfield today. Norwich midfielder Bradley Johnson grabbed the crucial winning goal against Stoke last week, and the player will be hugely encouraged by the praise he has received from fans and manager. Set pieces could prove vital again this afternoon, and Johnson will be highlighted as a key danger by the Reading defence.

Questions were asked about Chris Hughton following a slow start to the season, but recent wins against Arsenal and Stoke have silenced any doubters and the club are feeling positive about pushing up the Premier League table. The Madejski Stadium saw 12 goals when Reading played here in the League Cup, but Brian McDermott will be looking for more solidity in his side this afternoon.
