Minute Commentary
90' SUAREZ SHOW GRABS THE VICTORY
Wigan will be cursing a slow start to the second half, which saw Liverpool establish a winning position that they never looked back from. Jean Beausejour was the villain as his under-hit pass was intercepted by Raheem Sterling. The winger ghosted into the box and picked out Luis Suarez, who found the net with ease. Suarez was soon on the score-sheet again when Jose Enrique – playing as a left winger – cut inside, picked out the striker's run and the Uruguay international could not miss. The away side were in disarray and Enrique grabbed the goal his performance deserved when he side-footed home after Ali Al Habsi had parried from Sterling. Roberto Martinez will be frustrated by his side's second half display after a decent opening 45 minutes.

Jose Enrique runs at the defence and fires in a cross, but Ali Al Habsi manages to palm the ball to safety.

We have seen the best of the striker and now we are seeing the worst. David Jones was favourite to win the ball, but Luis Suarez goes in anyway and makes sure he forces his studs into the Wigan midfielder's foot.

Luis Suarez makes a fool out of Gary Caldwell as he sets himself up for his third, but he scuffs his shot well wide of the target.

Brilliant play from Jose Enrique as he cuts inside and runs at the Wigan defence before releasing Luis Suarez. The striker times his run to perfection and finishes past Pepe Reina with one touch.

Wigan finally get some space as Franco Di Santo turns his defender. The striker should feed the ball right, but he opts to tamely shoot into the arms of Pepe Reina.

Wigan have upped their efforts to get forward since conceding the goal, but the home side are hardly giving them a sniff.

A terrible start for Wigan as they gift Liverpool a goal. A terrible pass by Emmerson Boyce to Maynor Figueroa is easily intercepted by Raheem Sterling. The winger picks out Luis Suarez and the striker finishes well.

We are up and running at Anfield.
45' STALEMATE AT ANFIELD
Whilst there has been a shortage of goalmouth action, there has been plenty of intrigue as Liverpool and Wigan try to out pass each other. The away side have equipped themselves well and have had their moments, but the Reds have looked the busier around the box particularly from set-pieces. Ali Al Habsi has had to make a couple of routine saves. Wigan lost Ben Watson halfway through to injury and it upset their rhythm, whilst Brendan Rodgers hauled off Suso Saez in a tactical switch which saw Steven Gerrard pushed further forward; however, it is yet to pay off as we are goalless at half time.
45' HALF TIME
We have reached the break at Anfield.
44' GOOD SAVE
Steven Gerrard finally makes his way forward and picks out a pass for Luis Suarez. The striker fires a low ball across the goal, but Ali Al Habsi stretches out an arm and plucks the ball out of the air.
43' LUCKY REINA
The Liverpool keeper is just a little too cool under pressure and just about escapes a tackle from Franco Di Santo with a neat piece of skill.
39' POOR TACKLE
Things are heating up at Anfield. First Franco Di Santo is clattered by Daniel Agger and then Maynor Figueroa scrapes his studs down Raheem Sterling's shin. The referee books the Wigan defender.
37' LIVERPOOL SUBSTITUTION
Jordan Henderson comes on for Suso Saez. There is no indication that there is an injury there.

Ben Watson is replaced by David Jones.

Glen Johnson flies down the left and delivers the perfect cross into the run of Suso Saez, but the winger can`t keep his header down.

Big chance for Wigan after a foul by Raheem Sterling, but Ramis fires his shot straight into the wall. The Latics need to put more pressure on Liverpool from set pieces.

Ouch. Ben Watson flies into a 50-50 challenge with Raheem Sterling and wins the ball, but comes off considerably worse. The midfielder looks in some pain.

Wigan are beginning to make life very difficult for themselves as they continue to lose the ball in dangerous areas. This time Suso Saez picks up the ball and hammers a curling strike at goal. Ali Al Habsi has to react quickly to save with a strong arm.
21' GREAT DEFENDING
Liverpool win a free kick wide on the right, which Steven Gerrard curls in beautifully. Ramis does well to flick the ball up and over his own cross bar.
18' PENALTY CLAIMS
Luis Suarez plays a ball into the run of Suso Saez, who beats Ramis to the ball and then goes down under the challenge. The Liverpool fans shout for a penalty, but the referee is having none of it.
14' JUST OVER
Suddenly it is Wigan who are showing Liverpool how to play football as they knock the ball around well to create a shooting chance for Ben Watson. The midfielder catches his shot cleanly, but it is too high to trouble Pepe Reina.
10' SO CLOSE
Luis Suarez bundles his way into some space on the left. The striker lifts his head up and tries to pick out a cross. Ramis manages to get across, but his clearance is only just wide of the left hand post.
9' WIGAN COME FORWARD
Liverpool have just eased off and Wigan are starting to find some space in forward positions. An interesting start at Anfield.
5' JUST WIDE
Liverpool are pressing Wigan high up the pitch and it is forcing the away team to cede possession. Suso Saez gets on to one stray ball, but fires past Ali Al Habsi's post.

The early pressure is all on Wigan. Liverpool escape down the left and feed Glen Johnson, who wins the corner.

Pepe Reina makes his long awaited return to the Liverpool starting line-up, which seems a little harsh on Brad Jones who has been in decent form of late. Suso starts in midfield, whilst Martin Skrtel comes in for Jamie Carragher.

Forget Kevin Friend's record as a referee this season. The official seems to be something of a magnet for exciting games as he is yet to officiate a game that has less than two goals, seeing a total of 51 goals scored in his eleven matches.
0' LATICS NEED TO GRAFT
Eleven points from eleven games is hardly form to light up a division, but Wigan currently find themselves just one point behind Liverpool and five from the relegation places – a position fans will be delighted to find themselves in. However, now is where the hard work sets in to ensure that they keep away from the trouble.
0' RODGERS WANTS WIN
Last week's late equaliser against Chelsea could be just the tonic to kickstart Liverpool's start to the season. Brendan Rodger's hasn`t had the easiest of starts to life as Reds manager and he will be hoping for a victory today – anything else and it will begin to look like he is papering over ever increasing cracks.
0' WIGAN LOOK TO REPEAT UPSET
Wigan will be looking to repeat last season's historic first ever victory at Anfield as they come up against a Liverpool side that continue to underwhelm. The Reds may be unbeaten in the last six, something which Brendan Rodgers' positive bluster continues to spin, but they only have one win in the last eleven. Roberto Martinez will also be keen to show the Anfield faithful just what they missed out on by failing to appointment him despite a summer of wistful glancing.
