QPR must have been dreaming when they went ahead early in the second half but they were soon brought back down to earth after three goals in eight minutes from United. After conceding so quickly, the fight went out of the R's and United played out the rest of the game at their own pace. Harry Redknapp now knows the size of his task when he formally takes over as manager tomorrow and his first job will be picking his side up from this defeat. Sir Alex Ferguson won't be happy with his side's below-par first half performance but yet another three points won from a losing position will please him.

Julio Cesar receives a pass-back from one of his defenders and is closed down quickly by Wayne Rooney. The Brazilian confidently takes the ball around the onrushing Englishman and clears. Harry Redknapp won't have enjoyed that.

United start the half with a good spell of possession, it's wasted though when Ashley Young plays an aimless ball out of play.

QPR get the ball rolling at the start of the second half. Neither team has made a change at the break.
45' HALF TIME
Manchester United have had a poor first half here at Old Trafford. They've managed a few shots on goal but Julio Cesar has handled them all well; players like Wayne Rooney and Ashley Young need to improve greatly in the second half if they're to get anything from this game. QPR will be happy with their performance up to now, they were unlucky to have a goal ruled out mid-way through the half.

United try to see out the half with possession but Darren Fletcher gives the ball away cheaply and allows QPR to break. Adel Taarabt manages to get a shot at goal off but it's caught by Anders Lindegaard.
42' PENALTY SHOUT
Ashley Young goes down easily in the box and Clint Hill and Shaun Derry aren't happy about it. They both confront Young and Lee Probert has to calm them all down. There was a bit of contact from Hill but Young definitely made the most of it.
39' DISALLOWED GOAL
Jamie Mackie thinks he's put QPR in front with a well taken headed goal from a good Djibril Cisse cross. The linesman's flag is up however and replays show he was a good half-a-yard offside.
37' ROONEY STRIKE
Wayne Rooney strikes a loose ball from 20 yards out which forces another good save from Julio Cesar.
35' UNITED CHANCES
Patrice Evra plays a lovely one-two pass with Robin van Persie and hits a shot which is saved by Julio Cesar. Danny Welbeck then comes close 30 seconds later but his shot is saved by Cesar's legs.
32' EXCELLENT LONG BALL
Alejandro Faurlin hits the pass of the game to Stephane Mbia about 50 yards away in the corner. Mbia comes under pressure from Patrice Evra and is deemed to have dived by the referee. That's a waste of a rare good position for QPR.
28' YOUNG COMES CLOSE
Following a brilliant flick-on from Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes nudges the ball wide to Ashley Young. His shot is hit low and hard but it flies into the side netting.
24' UNITED PRESSURE
Patrice Evra crosses from the left to Wayne Rooney but Clint Hill manages to head the ball behind for a corner. Robin van Persie goes close with his head from the corner but a foul is given for a challenge on the goalkeeper.
20' SIDE NETTING
Wayne Rooney slips an inch-perfect pass through the defence to Danny Welbeck in the box. Welbeck then centres the ball to Robin van Persie who hits the ball with power just wide and into the side-netting; the United fans thought he'd scored.
17' PENALTY SHOUT
Another Rafael cross is controlled by Robin van Persie on the edge of the box but the Dutchman can't get it out of his feet. He manages to poke the ball through to Paul Scholes about 10 yards out and he goes down under pressure from Ryan Nelsen but Lee Probert says no penalty.
15' BLOCKED CROSS
Ashley Young plays a wonderfully incisive ball to the advancing Rafael down the right wing but the young Brazilian's cross is blocked by Armand Traore.
13' SLOW START
Adel Taarabt skillfully takes on Rafael down the left but gives away the ball after a poor pass. Neither team has looked particularly dangerous so far; it's been a very slow start.
10' MISPLACED PASS
Paul Scholes plays a rare misplaced pass into the corner which Danny Welbeck can't quite get to. United have given the ball away a few times now and need to be careful not to be caught out on the break.
7' EARLY CHANCES FOR WELBECK
Danny Welbeck is playing very wide on the left of midfield and he's had lots of space so far. He's the architect of the first chance of the game by laying the ball off to Ashley Young for him to put in a cross, Shaun Derry clears however.

Manchester United concede the first foul of the game from a mis-timed tackle by Paul Scholes surprisingly. That should have arguably been a booking.

Harry Redknapp will be in attendance at Old Trafford to see his new team in action after being named QPR boss this morning. Redknapp has already said that he's relishing the challenge and he'll face an uphill struggle to save the R's from relegation this season.

Kieron Dyer is named in the starting line-up for his first game since the opening day of last season and Clint Hill and Shaun Derry will also make rare starts. Stephane Mbia comes straight back into the team after suspension.

Darren Fletcher returns to the United team for his first Premier League appearance in over a year. Anders Lindegaard has been named in goal after a good performance against Galatasaray while Jonny Evans has defied early reports that he was out to be named in the starting line-up. Former United player Ji Sung Park is unlikely to feature against his old club due to a persistent knee injury while Fabio is ineligible to play against his parent team. Bobby Zamora and Andrew Johnson won't feature because of injuries but Stephane Mbia is once again eligible after suspension.

Jonny Evans will miss out despite returning to training this week while Chris Smalling is fit again after a shoulder injury. Wayne Rooney looks set to return to the attack alongside Robin van Persie after missing the game against Norwich with tonsillitis.
0' MANAGERLESS QPR ARE HUGE UNDERDOGS
QPR are winless so far this season and they've only earned two points away from home in the whole of 2012. It was this type of form that cost Mark Hughes his job yesterday and it's highly unlikely that they'll be able to turn it around at Old Trafford today. The R's have made the joint worst start to a Premier League campaign and they're odds-on to be relegated despite recruiting heavily in the summer. Harry Redknapp will be in attendance as it looks likely he'll be taking over from Mark Hughes, so the QPR players will be out to prove that they can cut it at this level before the January transfer window.
0' UNITED CAN'T AFFORD TO SLIP UP
Manchester United currently trail their rivals Manchester City by a single point in the Premier League and Sir Alex Ferguson won't want to drop points against QPR today, especially after a shock defeat to Norwich last weekend. A win can take the Red Devils back to the top of the table overnight before City play Chelsea on Sunday. United have had a potent attack this season but they've shown defensive frailties too; a solid display at the back here would please Sir Alex just as much as a high-scoring rout.

QPR must face-up against Manchester United without a manager today; Mark Hughes was sacked yesterday after an underwhelming start to the season in which the R's have failed to win a game and occupy last place in the Premier League. Manchester United come into the game off the back of an under-par performance against Norwich which saw them beaten but they should still be regarded as heavy favourites in this encounter due to their excellent attacking form which QPR will likely struggle to combat.
