Sunderland have been held at home by bottom of the table QPR in what was a largely unexciting match at the Stadium of Light. New boss Harry Redknapp can take solace in the fact that Rangers were the better side throughout, but he'll be concerned at their inability to put the ball in the back of the net. Martin O'Neill will be disappointed after poor performances from everyone but Danny Rose; Stephane Sessegnon had a particularly poor game in midfield. The result leaves QPR adrift at the bottom while Sunderland will stay in 16th place.

Shaun Wright-Phillips is put through on goal by Djibril Cisse and the Englishman forces a good save out of Simon Mignolet from a narrow angle. That was the best chance of the second-half so far.

QPR have started the second-half very confidently. They look like like they're a team challenging for a European place rather than a side battling for relegation - until they get into the final third that is, they're yet to create a chance despite their dominance.

QPR have begun the second half very well. Samba Diakite floats a cross in from the left-wing which is met by Esteban Granero with his head. It's slightly behind him and he can't get any power behind it - an easy take for Simon Mignolet.

Sunderland get the ball rolling at the start of the second half. Rangers have brought off Julio Cesar to be replaced by Robert Green because of a groin injury.

It's 0-0 at half-time in this bottom of the table clash, both sides have had chances however. QPR came close through Djibril Cisse and Jamie Mackie while Sunderland would have taken the lead just before half-time if Julio Cesar hadn't pulled off an excellent save. Harry Redknapp will be pleased with what he's seen so far as QPR have had the majority of possession. Neither team can afford to get complacent in the second-half; it looks likely that one goal could win this.
42' SUNDERLAND CHANCE
Steven Fletcher collects a great through-ball from Craig Gardner and almost gives Sunderland the lead with a low, driven shot. Julio Cesar makes a great save at his near post and shows why he was once considered one of the best in the world.
39' QPR CHANCES
There's a sudden flurry of activity in front of the Sunderland goal. Esteban Granero plays in Jamie Mackie in the box but his shot is saved by Simon Mignolet. The ball falls first to Djibril Cisse, then Adel Taarabt but both of their shots are blocked by defenders. That was the best chance of the game so far.
35' DANNY ROSE PUTTING IN THE WORK
The crowd here at the Stadium of Light are chanting Danny Rose's name almost continually. He's been the one bright spark for Sunderland in this game and he's cheered for his effort after chasing down a loose pass, unfortunately it comes to nothing.
32' QPR BOSSING THE MIDFIELD
QPR are controlling the game in midfield here. Jack Colback and Craig Gardner have had very little impact on the game and as a result, Rangers are seeing a lot more of the ball.
28' INFLUENTIAL TAARABT
Adel Taarabt is clearly out to impress his new manager tonight. He back-heels an excellent pass to Djibril Cisse who runs into the space in front of the Sunderland defence. Cisse however, goes alone instead of playing the easy ball to the right wing and the chance is gone.
24' QPR CHANCE
QPR set up camp on the edge of the Sunderland box and Stephane Mbia chips a cross into the box which nobody can get their head to. Rangers are beginning to create chances though and they look most likely to score.
20' CISSE SHOT
After a lovely passing move involving Adel Taarabt and Samba Diakite, Djibril Cisse strikes a shot with venom at Simon Mignolet's goal. It sails high and wide but Martin O'Neill should be worried that nobody attempted to close him down.
17' QPR DOMINATING POSSESSION
QPR have had the lion's share of the ball and the chances so far in this match but they're failing to threaten Simon Mignolet's goal. Sunderland have struggled to do anything with the ball in their opponents' half and their movement has been poor - but they have shown signs of improvement as the game has progressed.
13' CISSE GOES CLOSE
Djibril Cisse forces Simon Mignolet to make a save from a low curled shot from the edge of the box. Esteban Granero was instrumental in the build up; he's been excellent in the opening ten minutes.

Sebastian Larsson floats in a dangerous cross to the back post from a Sunderland corner and Julio Cesar does very well to catch it. Steven Fletcher was waiting at the back post to nod the ball into the net.

0' QPR BEGIN LIFE UNDER REDKNAPP
Struggling QPR are seven points away from safety and they're still yet to win a game this season. Chairman Tony Fernandes has brought in Harry Redknapp in an attempt to turn the club's fortunes around and he's set to shake up the starting 11. Redknapp has promised to play only those willing to put in the required effort which will be music to the ears of QPR fans who have had to endure some lacklustre performances as of late. A win tonight would be the first step on the road to safety but they'll need to overcome their poor away form; they're yet to win away from Loftus Road this year.
0' SUNDERLAND LOOKING FOR RARE HOME WIN
Having won only twice so far this season Martin O'Neill will see tonight's game as the perfect opportunity to get back on track against a QPR team who are on an extremely poor run of form. It's a fixture that could have a big bearing on the rest of Sunderland's season; a win could see them climb as high as 13th but a loss could demote them to 17th place if Aston Villa win against Reading in tonight's other Premier League fixture.

Tonight's clash sees two teams at the wrong end of the table battling it out for a very valuable three points. Both QPR and Sunderland are coming off the back of defeats at the weekend so will be desperate to turn things around. QPR, in their first game under Harry Redknapp, have the chance to make up ground on Sunderland who could be fighting for their safety at the end of the season if their poor form continues.
