90' GOALLESS GRINDER
Chelsea ground out their second goalless draw in as many games to share the points with Fulham at Stamford Bridge. The first half was a washout that yielded only a single decent chance for each side, Dimitar Berbatov firing over for Fulham and Chelsea's Fernando Torres firing straight at Mark Schwarzer. Things improved a little after the interval as both teams began to show more urgency, John Arne Riise squandering a pair of opportunities to open the scoring after running onto super passes from Girogos Karagounis and Kerim Frei. The Blues hit back with a Ramires toe-poke and a Branislav Ivanovic header that flashed wide, but it was all to no avail. The reign of Rafael Benitez continues with a whimper, and won't Fulham thank the timing.

A poor backwards header from Phillipe Senderos puts Fulham under unnecessary pressure. Fortunately for the sheepish defender, Aaron Hughes, who has been magnificent today, appears on the scene to block Ramires' goalbound effort.

Fulham come oh so close to opening the scoring as Kerim Frei slides a pass into John Arne Riise and the full back leathers one at goal. The shot takes a deflection, but Cech still pulls off a top-notch diving save to deny Riise.

Juan Mata's corner finds Branislav Ivanovic and David Luiz jumping together. It's impossible to tell which of the Chelsea centre backs makes the connection, but either way the effort bounces wide of the target.

Dimitar Berbatov steals in behind the home defence to control a beautiful dinked ball from Diarra, but the Bulgarian is halted in his tracks by a late offside flag.

As Oscar takes a touch inside the Fulham area and prepares to shoot, Diarra hurls his body in the way to make a magnificently brave block.

45' ALL QUIET ON THE CHELSEA FRONT
There isn't too much to report from Stamford Bridge following a drudge of a half where neither Chelsea nor Fulham were able to score. Long spells of passing in the teams' own halves has resulted in one half-decent chance for each side; first Dimitar Berbatov stabbed John Arne Riise's low cross over the bar, before Fernando Torres sent a shot straight into Mark Schwarzer's arms from just outside the box. Worryingly for Chelsea fans, a pattern is already starting to emerge in the reign of Rafa Benitez, and it does not involve goals. Let's see if any bright spark can light up the second half.

Chelsea ramp up the pressure as half time approaches at speed. One ball across the face of goal from Torres is headed away from the onrushing attackers by the excellent Sascha Riether.

Steve Sidwell trips Romeu to concede a free kick 35 yards from goal. David Luiz squares it to Azpilicueta, whose floated cross is headed clear of danger by Aaron Hughes.

Torres crashes to the turf inside the Fulham box under pressure from Berbatov; Anthony Taylor has a quick look then shakes his head as the crowd shriek.

Fulham's first shot on target finally arrives as Rodallega finds a yard of space 18 yards out and strikes the ball with some venom, but it's straight at the grateful Petr Cech.

An accidental Hugo Rodallega handball gifts the home side a free kick just outside the area. David Luiz steps up to take it, curling an effort over the wall and way over the bar.

The Cottagers are content to let Chelsea have the ball in their own half at the moment. It's being passed left to right and then right to left like a metronome, each time going through Oriol Romeu.

It looks like that chance could prove to be a one-off; the game has slipped straight back into the stupor it previously occupied.
18' BERBATOV GOES CLOSE
Mahamadou Diarra sends Riise sprinting clear down the left with a terrific through ball. The Norwegian collects it to send a low cross into the box, where Dimitar Berbatov goes to touch the ball home but can't get his body shape right and ends up spooning the chance over the bar.

With 15 minutes on the clock, neither side has come close to carving out a clear opening. As long as Rafa's at the helm, Chelsea fans will have to tolerate this.
12' POSITIVE SUPPORT
The home fans are being a bit more positive with their chanting today, choosing to celebrate their status as champions of Europe rather than openly attack their manager. That's the only way they'll help the team.

Fulham put together a sequence of passes for the first time in the game, Hazard finally tripping John Arne Riise to nip the move in the bud with a cynical foul.

The Blues have enjoyed the lion's share of possession so far without making it count. One half-chance sees the over-excited Ramires lean back and plant one high into the stands.

Chelsea get an early opportunity to get the ball into the box as Damien Duff fouls Eden Hazard in an advanced position. Ryan Bertrand swings it in but Steve Sidwell is on hand to head clear on the six-yard line.

Word is that Brazilian playmaker Oscar could be dropped deeper into midfield to provide the sort of raking passes that wayward striker Fernando Torres used to thrive on in happier times. The youngster has been the brightest spark in Chelsea's last few stuttering outings and will be vital in unlocking the disciplined Fulham defence.

Fulham boss Martin Jol has spoken up in support of fellow manager Rafa Benitez. The Dutchman said: “He was at Liverpool and he said probably a few things about Chelsea. I did that in the past because you are like a chameleon; you've got the colours of the club you are at, and that is what he did. After a couple of wins, I feel that he will win them over".

Chelsea have finally released a statement admitting that their handling of the recent accusations of racism against Mark Clattenburg did not come up to standards, although the club stopped short of issuing a direct apology. It was stressed that the reporting of Ramires' statement was within the duty of the club, but that the decision to release a hasty press statement the same evening was a mistake. That's something at least.

Tonight's referee Anthony Taylor has shown three red cards in just nine Premier League matches presided over this season, so all 22 players will need to be on their very best behaviour at Stamford Bridge. Of course Mr Taylor himself might be wary of upsetting some of Chelsea's volatile stars.

Rafael Benitez gets his second bite at the cherry and more than likely another round of boos as Stamford Bridge plays host to the meeting of Chelsea and Fulham in the Barclays Premier League this evening. The unpopular Spaniard managed to secure a point against the champions in his first game in charge of the Blues, but his team did not play well and it will take a lot more to convince unhappy supporters. Fulham have their own woes to worry about, having now lost their last two Premier League matches and failed to win in their last five. Martin Jol's side are still just about in the top half of the table, but any loss of points tonight will likely see them overtaken by the chasing pack. Both clubs are in desperate need of a win, so we should see sparks fly.
