90' DOMINANT REDS TAKE THE POINTS
I said it earlier and I'll say it again - how Liverpool have only won by one goal I will never know. The hosts were the best team from start to finish and were it not for some poor control and bad finishing, they could have been in double figures today. The goal came after a stunning Luis Suarez free kick, which cannoned off the bar and into play, allowing Glen Johnson to set up Daniel Agger to power home. Southampton looked tired and uninterested, whereas Liverpool looked toothless up front at times. Brendan Rodgers will go home happy with the three points, but not necessarily with his side's finishing. Liverpool 1, Southampton 0.

Liverpool have another gilt-edged chance here. Jose Enrique powers forward from left-back, swapping passes with team mates along the way, before Paulo Gazzaniga gets the faintest of touches to send it out for a corner.

Southampton need to make a change here. They are only one goal behind due to Liverpool's wastefulness, not their own efforts, and they need to find another dimension otherwise they will not get anything from this.

The ball is played to Adam Lallana in the box, but the midfielder's touch is poor and Pepe Reina is able to come out and gather.

Southampton are battling to get back into this tie, but every time they get the ball the Liverpool players take it back easily. Raheem Sterling tries an effort from the edge of the box but it is gathered easily.

Jonjo Shelvey finds Steven Gerrard on the right wing and the England captain has all the time in the world to pick a cross. Unfortunately, his ball across the face of goal is aimed at no-one in particular and Paulo Gazzaniga clears.

Even though they have had a long journey today, and their team is behind, the Southampton fans are in full voice and are almost showing the Liverpool fans up. Just what the players on the pitch need.

The screw is being turned once more here. Southampton looked for a moment like they might get back into this with a Jason Puncheon effort, but once again Liverpool break up to the other end of the field and cause Southampton several problems in quick succession.

This has been a really good half of football. The game has been played at a good tempo and there has been plenty of attacking play, but it has been pretty much one way traffic. Liverpool have been totally dominant and finally took the lead through a Daniel Agger header just before the interval. If things carry on as they are, it could be a big win for the Reds. Liverpool 1, Southampton 0.

Rickie Lambert spies Pepe Reina off his line and the striker tries an effort from 35 yards, which Reina has to scramble to divert clear. The corner comes to nothing.

Jonjo Shelvey cuts down the right and sends in a lovely cross, which Raheem Sterling gets up to head. Unfortunately it bounces wide.

Well, it has been coming. Luis Suarez curls in a free kick from the left which strikes the bar, before bouncing back into play. Glen Johnson picks the ball up on the right, beats his man and sends in a perfect cross, which Agger powers home. Liverpool 1, Southampton 0.

I don't think I have seen a half of football where one side has been so dominant but hasn't been able to make their advantage work for them. If i was Brendan Rodgers, I wouldn't know what to say to my players at half time, as they've done everything right.

Liverpool are really giving it everything here. Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard and Jonjo Shelvey all have attempts at Paulo Gazzaniga's goal, with the latter's effort cannoning off the post and back into play.

No change here at Anfield. Liverpool are still pressing, and Southampton are still looking frail at the back. If Liverpool could sort out their finishing then they could be several goals up here.

Liverpool are inches from being ahead here. Pepe Reina plays a long ball over the top for Suarez, who beats his man and finds himself through on goal. A combination of the onrushing Paulo Gazzaniga and the chasing Maya Yoshida manage to distract Suarez and the ball bobbles wide for a corner.

One reason that Liverpool aren't ahead is that their final ball lets them down. Whether it's a pass or a shot, the Reds' players seem to mishit it or misplace it, allowing Southampton to clear.

Jose Enrique sends a delicious ball right into the path of Luis Suarez from nearly 70 yards. The striker has an excellent opportunity, but uses his hand to control it and is rightfully penalised.

Southampton have barely had a sniff here. Liverpool are all over this game and are starting to make chances for themselves. It really is only a matter of time until a goal comes.

Raheem Sterling makes a great run down the right and cuts into the box, but fellow youngster Luke Shaw does well to track him and nick the ball off of his toes.

Luis Suarez profits from some Steven Gerrard tenacity in midfield and bursts forward, but gets caught in two minds between passing and shooting and his eventual shot is blocked easily.

The game is still being played with a high tempo, but there really hasn't been much happening. The only slight concern for Liverpool is that Suarez is limping following a tackle from Nathaniel Clyne, but he should be ok to continue.

The crowd are in good voice here and are urging their side forward. Liverpool still look the more threatening of the two teams and have been asking some questions of the Saints' defence.

Luis Suarez jinks his way into the box and is denied a shooting opportunity by a last-minute Jose Fonte challenge.

Both sides have started this game with a good pace. Although there haven't been any real chances of note yet, the feel of the game is exciting and the goals will surely come.

The hosts have looked dominant in these opening minutes, causing some problems for the Southampton defence. They will want to get a goal early to settle their nerves.

Liverpool make two changes to the side that lost to Tottenham. Lucas Leiva returns to the side after three months out, and takes the place of Jordan Henderson in the centre of the park. Jonjo Shelvey takes one of the wide attacking berths in the place of Stewart Downing. Southampton stick to the same side that drew with Norwich, as Paulo Gazzaniga keeps his place in goal.

Both sides come into this tie with drastically different form. Liverpool have won once in their last six, whilst Southampton are unbeaten in four. The Saints have also won three of their last four games against the Reds, however the hosts have only lost one of their last seven home games against the South Coast side. We should be in for an interesting tie this afternoon.
0' SOUTHAMPTON TEAM NEWS
Saints boss Nigel Adkins has a tough decision to make regarding his goalkeeper. Paulo Gazzaniga has been the man between the sticks recently but his form has been questionable, leading to speculation that either Kelvin Davis or Artur Boruc could return. Danny Fox is struggling with a knee problem and could miss out, whilst Richard Chaplow is a long-term absentee with a thigh complaint. Frazer Richardson is also missing with a hip problem.

Liverpool have been handed a huge boost this week with the news that Lucas Leiva is available following a thigh injury. The Brazilian was one of The Reds' key men last season and his presence in the centre of the park will be very much welcomed. Joe Cole is also available after missing the midweek tie with Spurs due to a minor knock. Martin Kelly and Fabio Borini won't return this year due to knee and foot complaints respectively.
