The game finishes 2-1 to Norwich as Sunderland weren't able to capitalise on their second-half dominance. The Black Cats had the ball in the net but it was disallowed rightly for offside. This win is Norwich's fourth in a row at home and sees them rise to 12th while Sunderland stay dangerously close to the relegation zone in 17th place.

Stephane Sessegnon is the latest Sunderland player to almost score. He runs onto a great through-ball and is one-on-one with the goalkeeper. His shot is straight at Mark Bunn though and he makes a vital save.

A Sebastian Larsson corner is controlled by Carlos Cuellar 12 yards out and struck at goal but it's blocked well by Sebastien Bassong.

Sunderland come very close just after the restart when Phillip Bardsley plays in Connor Wickham in the Norwich box but Ryan Bennett makes a wonderful tackle to poke the ball to safety.

We're back underway at Carrow Road. Steven Fletcher has been replaced by Connor Wickham at half-time.
45' HALF-TIME
It's been an exciting first-half at Carrow Road in which Norwich have dominated. Sebastien Bassong and Anthony Pilkington gave the Canaries a two goal lead and Sunderland had to deal with constant pressure before Craig Gardner scored to get them back into the game on one of Sunderland's few attacks. It's going to be an interesting second-half and the first goal will be key.

Craig Gardner hits a speculative shot from 25 yards which curls just inside Mark Bunn's post. A brilliant finish to get Sunderland back in the game before half-time.

Sunderland mount an attack in an attempt to get back into the game but Craig Gardner plays an awful pass out of play which is at least 15 yards away from any team-mate. Martin O'Neill is not pleased.

An incicive long-ball from Bradley Johnson is collected by Anthony Pilkington. He turns inside his defender onto his favoured right-foot and slots the ball into the bottom corner, much to the delight of the home fans.

Adam Johnson gives the ball away cheaply in the Norwich half and the Canaries work it all the way up the pitch. A long-ball from Robert Snodgrass almost sets Wesley Hoolahan through on goal but he can't quite reach it.

Sebastian Larsson plays a pass from Sunderland's first corner of the game along the floor to Danny Rose waiting on the outside of the area. Rose's low shot almost wrong-foots Mark Bunn but the goalkeeper manages to get down to it in time.

In a rare spell of possession, Danny Rose comes forward with the ball. The only option in front of him is Steven Fletcher and he's unable to find him with his pass.
24' BLOCKED SHOT
Alexander Tettey finds himself with acres of space 30 yards out and he attempts a driven long range shot. It's hit with pace and is going goalwards until it strikes Sebastian Larsson in the face.
21' MIGNOLET MISTAKE
Simon Mignolet fails to clear the ball properly and he hits it staright to Robert Snodgrass around 40 yards out. Snodgrass runs with the ball to the edge of the Sunderland box but he's tackled before he can pull the trigger.
17' CONTINUED PRESSURE
Sunderland are still having to defend almost constantly. A Steven Whittaker cross is cleared but Sunderland have all 11 men behind the ball so Norwich come straight back.
12' NORWICH PRESSURE
Norwich continue to pile on the pressure as Javier Garrido swings in a cross from the left-wing. Sebastien Bassong is there to meet it again in the box but his header goes wide.

Some lovely one-touch passing between Steven Whittaker and Wesley Hoolahan forces Danny Rose to step across Hoolahan and concede a free-kick. Robert Snodgrass curls in a lovely floating cross which flicks off a defender's head and is bundled into the net by Sebastien Bassong.

Sunderland captain Lee Cattermole will miss out after managing only five minutes in his midweek return from injury against QPR, he'll likely be replaced by Jack Colback. John O'Shea is still unavailable due to a calf injury.

Russell Martin could return after a spell on the sidelines while Mark Bunn will likely deputise for John Ruddy in goal after a thigh injury ruled the Norwich number one out.
0' SUNDERLAND WANT TO GET BACK ON TRACK
Martin O'Neill will undoubtedly want to mark one year in the Sunderland hot-seat with a return to fortune for the Black Cats; they've only picked up 13 points so far this season and they're sitting precariously in 17th place, only one point away from the relegation zone. Just as for Norwich, this game has the potential to define the rest of Sunderland's season.
0' NORWICH HOPE TO EXTEND UNBEATEN RUN
The Canaries are currently on a very impressive seven match unbeaten run in which they've beaten Manchester United, Arsenal and Stoke but have only managed to draw with most of the teams around them in the table. These draws coupled with a poor start to the season have left Norwich in 13th place in the league, so a win today would be a vital three points which could help them stay away from being drawn towards the wrong end of the table over Christmas.

Today's clash sees two teams in the bottom half of the table desperate for points. The last time these sides met, the Black Cats triumphed 3-0 at the Stadium of Light, but it's Norwich that come into the game in better shape after a run of excellent home results. Sunderland have not won at Carrow Road since 1985 and considering their recent form they could struggle here especially considering that they have had the fewest number of shots on target in the league.
