Minute Commentary
90' DEFENDERS ON TOP
After a much better second half, the match has ended goalless. A relatively even, if somewhat uneventful first half, was soon forgotten as the second half began in frantic fashion. Chances came and went at both ends in the opening minutes, with Peter Odemwingie causing particular problems down the West Brom left, and Carlton Cole being his usual battling self. Morrison hit the bar with a header, one of a succession of corners that West Ham had to dig deep to defend. The best players on the pitch were the West Ham central defensive pairing of Collins and Reid, and Steve Clarke will probably feel more aggrieved that his side did not win. West Ham will definitely see that as a more valuable point, although West Brom have at least managed to end their losing run.

Good spell for West Brom over the last couple of minutes, but can't quite find a way through. Mulumbu had all sorts of space in the box, but he didn't get a shout, and the chance goes begging.

Peter Odemwingie seems to have moved out to the left wing, and is causing Demel a few problems. The Nigerian drills in another low cross, which Reid has to be on his toes to block at the feet of Long. Quality defending.

Its beginning to feel like this game could be won or lost by a single goal, and it could well be a set piece that decides it..

Jussi Jaaskelainen makes a decent double save. Zoltan Gera hits a vicious dipping volley, which the West Ham keeper can only palm into the path of Long, but he recovers to gather the follow-up effort.

Taylor and Jarvis have switched flanks, and it is the former who hits an effort wide following a flowing West Ham move. Someone shoot on target please.

Mulumbu side-foots an effort just wide at one end, and Cole should have done better with a headed chance in the box at the other end. Nolan then swivels on the loose ball, but hits it wide.

I think we have had more action in the opening seven minutes of this half than we did in the whole of the first.

This is more like it. West Ham head down the other end for a chance of their own. A scramble on the edge of the box, before O'Neil hits a curling effort, which looks bound for the top corner, leaving Myhill standing with his fingers crossed. Just wide, but you can't get much closer than that!
49' CORNER TIME
What a scramble at the start of the second half. West Brom win four corners in quick succession, and cause problems from all of them. Morrison is involved in most of the, the pick of the bunch, an effort from Olsson which bounces off the top of the bar. West Ham survive...just.
47' AWKWARD FOR HAMMERS
An early statement of intent from West Brom. Peter Odemwingie down the left, drills in a low cross which causes panic in the West Ham area. Reid is just able to scramble it away for a corner.

West Ham start the second half.
45' NOT A CLASSIC
The first half has ended goalless, with neither side dominating and both looking a little goal-shy. Two hard working teams that are chasing every ball down, but ultimately missing a bit of quality in the final third, look like they will need a bit of creative magic to win the game. The best chance of the half fell to West Ham's Winston Reid, but he hoisted his close-range effort well over the bar. Sam Allardyce as the away manager may be the happier of the two.

The players seem to have lost a bit of quality in the last few minutes. Demel is lucky to win a free kick off Popov, but the pass doesn't make it past the first man. Disappointing from West Ham, usually so solid from set plays.

The ball bounces around the midfield for a while, before Cole steals it from Mulumbu, and whacks it towards goal. Myhill is only able to parry the effort, and is lucky Nolan can't quite reach the rebound.

Shane Long looks bright and full of running, as usual. Another left foot effort from the Irishman drifts wide.

Winston Reid finds the ball at his feet from a West Ham corner, but he blazes his shot over the bar from four yards. Chances are starting to flow.

A pile-driver from the right boot of Brunt stings Jaaskelainen's palms, but is kept out. Great effort on his weaker foot.

Long turns Noble inside out, and tries to catch Jaaskelainen out at the near post, but he never looks totally comfortable on his left peg and he shoots wide. Let off for West Ham.

Morrison has a pop from 25 yards, but its not even close.

It's quiet a scrappy game so far, with a lot of the play in the midfield, and some crunching challenges from both sides, but it seems to be in good spirit.

Today's match sees Steve Clarke welcome one of his former clubs to the Hawthorns, with both his current and previous clubs on a run of disappointing form, after promising starts. Fresh from the November manager of the month award, Steve Clarke will hope this game can end a run of three straight defeats. West Ham's recent run has coincided with a long list of injuries and with five games in sixteen days, Sam Allardyce will be hoping for a Christmas miracle from his medical staff.

In more positive news Jack Collison's return to the first team is drawing ever closer.

Should West Brom win their next two games they will be three points clear of the Chelsea when the European champions return to their domestic schedule. Four wins out of five games in November saw West Brom hit the dizzying heights of third, but three straight defeats have seem the drop down to 11th. However West Brom's record at home this season can only be bettered by champions Man City.

A win over Chelsea, followed by a defeat at Liverpool - thanks to an own goal – gives a fairly good account of the Hammers form this season - they have lost four of their last five games, despite only losing three of their first eleven. They have however hit the target 94 times this season, more than any other top-flight side. Whether this is a good sign or not remains to be seen.

Their last visit to the Hawthorns saw West Ham claim a point, despite conceding three goals before half time, for the third draw between the sides in three meetings. West Brom have won only once from their last nine home games against the Hammers, losing five and drawing three. Overall this has to be one of the most even matchups in English football: West Brom winning 37 times and scoring 151 goals, to West Ham' 36 wins with 148 goals.

One of the keys to West Brom's success so far has been keeping clean sheets, but their last came in Ben Foster's last appearance before a groin injury that is likely to keep him out of Sunday's game. Boaz Myhill is set to continue to deputise, and he will need to be on his toes to keep out the Hammers shot-happy strikers. West Ham's leading scorer Kevin Nolan has scored the deciding goal in four of West Ham's six league wins so far this season, but only has one goal in 11 career games against West Brom. FA Cup Final referee Phil Dowd takes control of today's game, having issued 55 yellow cards and three reds in his 15 matches so far this season.
