West Ham United vs. Everton
Minute Commentary
90' FULL-TIME REPORT
In a match which was well-fought by both teams for more than an hour, it seems a shame that the match was ruined by an inexplicable refereeing decision. Anthony Taylor handed out his fourth red card of the season for an innocuous looking foul by Carlton Cole - the man whose first half strike had given the Hammers a half-time lead. Everton had equalised just before the sending off and were visibly buoyed by West Ham going down to ten men with Steven Pienaar grabbing what turned out to be the winner with 17 minutes to play. Darren Gibson's late red card, which was also debatable, had little effect as Everton consigned a hard done by West Ham to their third home defeat of the season.
90' FULL-TIME
Referee Anthony Taylor calls time on the game. It finishes West Ham United 1 Everton 2.
90' LATE CHANGE
Victor Anichebe is being withdrawn in place of Shane Duffy as we enter the final moments.
90' RED CARD FOR GIBSON
Darren Gibson becomes the second player to get sent off after fouling Mark Noble. It's undoubtedly a foul but a sending off? Unlikely.
90' NOLAN OPPORTUNITY
Kevin Nolan goes through on goal and has a great chance to equalise but his toe poke goes wide of Tim Howard's near post as groans echo around the stadium. There will be four minutes of added on time.
90' JELAVIC SITTER
What a miss by Jelavic! Leon Osman cut back on the edge of the box and bent an effort towards goal. Jaaskelainen parried but only into the path of Jelavic. The Croatian could only hit the side netting though.
90' CHANGES FOR BOTH SIDES
Jack Collison is coming on for Matt Jarvis to make his first appearance for West Ham this season. There would be no better way to mark his comeback than with an unlikely equaliser here. Meanwhile Bryan Oviedo replaces Steven Pienaar for Everton.
86' EVERTON KEEP POSSESSION
Everton are doing a good job of keeping possession now and are making ten-man West Ham chase them around Upton Park. Steven Naismith is coming on to give the returning Phil Neville a well-earned rest.
83' NOLAN SHAVES THE POST
Nearly an equaliser. Modibo Maiga lays the ball off for Kevin Nolan whose dipping volley from just inside the area is deflected just wide of the post via Heitinga's chest.
81' WEST HAM STRUGGLE
The goal has taken the stuffing out of West Ham, who are still astounded at the decision to send off Carlton Cole, who was having an excellent game up until that point. With Modibo Maiga now the focal point of West Ham's attack, they are finding it hard to unsettle John Heitinga and Sylvain Distin. Jordan Spence is on for the Hammers, replacing Joey O'Brien.
77' EVERTON AHEAD
Steven Pienaar slides the ball in to Leon Osman who returns it back across the six yard box. Pienaar comes in on it and puts it into the back of the net via his thigh, amidst a crowd of bodies. Sam Allardyce is seething.
73' GOOOAAALLL!
A goal for Steven Pienaar!
72' TWO BANKS OF FOUR
Carlton Cole's eyes never left the ball and it seems such a strange decision by referee Taylor. Modibo Maiga is now leading the Hammers line on his own as the depleted hosts adopt a 4-4-1 formation.
68' VERY HARSH ON COLE
It looked rather innocuous to say the least but referee Taylor has sent Carlton Cole off. The big striker tried to bring the ball down but caught Leighton Baines on his side with his studs. Baines was straight back to his feet but Taylor was already pulling out the red card for Cole, who is amazed. Sam Allardyce is furious.
67' RED CARD
Carlton Cole has been sent off!
66' ANICHEBE GLANCE
Steven Pienaar cuts inside from the left flank and floats in a delightful cross. The unmarked Victor Anichebe glances the ball on into the far corner of the net to level the scores.
65' GOOOAAALLL!!!
Victor Anichebe scores!
61' MAIGA SCUFFS
What a chance for West Ham! Carlton Cole takes the ball into the box after seeing off John Heitinga and pulls it back for Modibo Maiga who should have taken the shot on first time, but instead he scuffs the ball wide after taking a touch. It seems to take a deflection but the referee signals for a goal kick.
59' MAIGA ENTERS
Modibo Maiga is coming on for West Ham, replacing Gary O'Neil. That could be an attempt to stop this barrage of pressure from Everton by Sam Allardyce by giving them something to think about at the other end of the pitch.
58' JELAVIC OFFSIDE
Leon Osman slides Jelavic in again but, for the fifth time this half, the Croatian striker is offside. It must be infuriating for David Moyes.
55' GIBSON CLOSE
Everton look much more urgent since the start of this half. Kevin Nolan barges Steven Pienaar as the South African looks to make a dangerous run into the Hammers box. Darren Gibson takes it and it shaves Jaaskelainen's right hand post.
51' TASTY TACKLES
These two teams are ranked second and third in the division for fouls conceded and we are beginning to see why as a few feisty challenges fly in. Everton are certainly looking to increase the intensity in this half.
50' JELAVIC CHANCE
Nikica Jelavic begins the half by being ruled offside twice in the opening three minutes and then hits the ball straight at Jaaskelainen from eight yards out but it's clear that the visitors are attempting to get the striker more involved this half.
46' BACK UNDERWAY
We're back underway at Upton Park. David Moyes and Sam Allardyce both choose to start the second half with the teams that ended the first.
45' HALF-TIME REPORT
Carlton Cole and Matt Jarvis have won their individual battles against John Heitinga and Phil Jagielka, respectively and that has been enough to give them the lead at half-time. Everton though will feel aggrieved to have not been ahead just moments before Cole's confident finish after Leon Osman was denied a goal for a perceived climbing offence. The Toffees have been attractive enough in possession but, without their star man in Marouane Fellaini, lack a cutting edge. David Moyes' side will have to find inspiration from another area if they are to leave the capital with anything to show for their efforts.
45' HALF-TIME
The referee calls time on a close half of football here at Upton Park but the score at half-time is West Ham United 1 Everton 0.
44' COLLINS IN CONTROL
Few would choose to get into an argument with either Victor Anichebe or James Collins and the two are currently locked in a battle of muscle here. Collins is currently on top and Anichebe is looking increasingly frustrated with his lack of influence on the game.
41' GIBSON DRIVE
Gary O'Neil gives away a needless free-kick 30 yards from his own goal after bundling over Steven Pienaar. Darren Gibson takes it but Jaaskelainen chooses to tip it over the bar when it looked like he could catch it.
38' JARVIS BRIGHT
Everything positive from West Ham is coming down the left flank. Matt Jarvis is having plenty of joy against Phil Jagielka. Most recently, the ex-Gillingham winger nearly got on the end of a cheeky backheel by Kevin Nolan but Heitinga cleared in the nick of time.
35' JELAVIC IN THE THICK OF IT
Victor Anichebe exchanges passes with Steven Pienaar to get in behind the West Ham defence but he is flagged offside. If he had let the ball run for Nikica Jelavic, who was behind him, play would have been allowed to continue, leaving the Croatian with a free run at goal. Moments after, Jelavic fires a volley just wide of Jaaskelainen's post.
32' EXQUISITE OSMAN PASS
Leon Osman threads a pinpoint pass through for Nikica Jelavic but the forward shoots wide of the post when one-on-one with the goalkeeper. He was ruled offside but the ex-Rangers man was, in fact, level with the last defender. That was a let-off for the Hammers.
28' COLE DOMINATING HEITINGA
To say John Heitinga is struggling to deal with Carlton Cole is an understatement. The Dutch international, who has returned to the starting line-up for the first time in four matches, is lucky to escape punishment after dragging Cole down on the halfway line. He was arguably the last man but the referee waves play on.
25' NICELY POISED
West Ham have lost just one match from a winning position so far this season - the defeat to Arsenal at Upton Park in October. However Everton have scored in each of their last 14 Premier League fixtures and so an equaliser can't be ruled out by any means.
23' PIENAAR EFFORT
A Gibson cross is half-cleared by James Collins but the ball falls to Steven Pienaar. His vicious effort is gathered at the second attempt by Jussi Jaaskelainen.
22' SWIFT COUNTER
The Toffees launch a swift counter attack after a Mark Noble free-kick is gathered by Tim Howard but, after good build-up play from Steven Pienaar and Sylvain Distin, the latter's cross is high and handsome.
19' EVERTON HARD DONE BY
Everton's disallowed goal certainly seemed harsh. Referee Taylor blew for either a foul committed by Heitinga in the process of putting in his goal-bound header or for contact from Anichebe on Jaaskelainen. Whatever it was for, it was extremely harsh and David Moyes' side will be feeling rightly aggrieved.
16' COLE BREAKS HIS TOFFEES DUCK
Moments after John Heitinga has a goal ruled out for a foul on Jaaskelainen, Carlton Cole cuts inside on the edge of the Everton box, evades Heitinga and fires into the bottom left-hand corner of Tim Howard's goal. It's against the run of play but the Hammers fans don't mind.
15' GOOOAAALLL!!!
It's there! Right on cue! Carlton Cole!
14' STOP THE ROT
If West Ham are to get a positive result today, their attacking threats of Carlton Cole and Kevin Nolan are going to have to put right their terrible records against Everton. Neither has ever scored against the Toffees in 16 and 10 matches against them, respectively.
10' FREE HEADER
Steven Pienaar is brought down by James Tomkins on the left hand side. Leighton Baines fizzes the free-kick in to pick out an unmarked Sylvain Distin but the Frenchman heads the ball into the ground and over the top of Jussi Jaaskelainen's bar.
7' EVERTON IN CONTROL
Everton are enjoying the majority of possession but it's all in front of the Hammers defence. West Ham have barely entered the Toffees half so far.
3' JAGIELKA V JARVIS
Phil Jagielka has started as a makeshift right back for Everton in what may be an attempt to stifle West Ham's dangerous winger Matt Jarvis. It's Everton who have had the most of the early exchanges but neither side is yet to fashion an opportunity.
1' WE'RE OFF
Referee Taylor gets us underway at Upton Park. West Ham are in their famous claret and blue colours while Everton are wearing their alternative white shirts.
0' NEVILLE AND ANICHEBE DEEMED FIT
West Ham line up largely as expected with Jack Collison returning to the squad for Sam Allardyce's men, along with fit-again Alou Diarra who is named among the substitutes against the odds. Everton recall Phil Neville and Victor Anichebe who were both expected to miss out through injury while former Hammer Thomas Hitzlsperger can only warm the Toffees bench.

0' KICK-OFF 3PM
Kick-off at Upton Park is at 3pm. Join us just before then for the confirmed team news.
0' REF WATCH
Anthony Taylor takes charge of this afternoon's match - his 12th of the Premier League season. The 34-year-old is one of the most lenient referees in the division in terms of handing out cautions but has issued three dismissals already this season - only Mark Clattenburg has reached into his back pocket on more occasions.
0' FELLAINI MISSING
Everton will have to tackle their festive fixtures without the imposing figure of Marouane Fellaini, whose three-match ban for violent conduct against Stoke's Ryan Shawcross begins today. Former West Ham midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger could deputise for the Belgian. Meanwhile the visit to east London is likely to come too soon for Phil Neville who is set to miss out along with Kevin Mirallas, Tony Hibbert and Victor Anichebe.
0' COLLISON RETURNS
There's a big boost for the Hammers who welcome back Welsh international Jack Collison back from injury for the first time since returning to the Premier League. The midfielder has been out of action with a serious knee injury but has now recovered and makes the squad. However Yossi Benayoun is struggling to recover from his own knee injury and could join Mohamed Diame, Alou Diarra, George McCartney and Ricardo Vaz Te on the sidelines at Upton Park.
0' MATCH PREVIEW
West Ham United have enjoyed a relatively comfortable return to the Premier League so far. The Hammers are quite snug in 11th position at the moment and, should they beat Everton this afternoon, could go as high as eighth. But the Hammers have a woeful record against the Toffees and haven't won in their last nine matches against David Moyes' men. Moreover Everton are unbeaten in their last four ventures to Upton Park, most recently drawing 1-1 there in 2010 after Seamus Coleman cancelled out a Tony Hibbert own goal. The Toffees are on a fantastic run currently, losing just one of their last 12 games but with West Ham's mean defensive record - the fifth best in the Premier League - this could prove to be a cagey encounter.
