Everton vs. Chelsea
Minute Commentary
90' FULL-TIME
Chelsea have made it four straight wins and climb above Tottenham and back into third spot in the Premier League table. They also end Everton's 13 match unbeaten home run thanks to a brace from Frank Lampard, but they had to do it the hard way at Goodison Park. Steven Pienaar opened the scoring after just 63 seconds to hand the Toffees a perfect start, but the Blues midfielder restored parity three minutes before half-time thanks to a wonderful header and he won the game after 72 minutes after being in the right position at the right time. The visiting fans were singing 'sign him up' and maybe the west Londoners need to sit down and have a think about whether they can really let the club legend leave!
90' LAST CHANCE
Nikica Jelavic misses a golden opportunity to grab a draw, but his touch lets him down in the six-yard box.
90' GREAT TACKLE
As we enter four minutes of stoppage time, Chelsea have a three against one situation until Sylvain Distin slides in to deny Fernando Torres a certain third goal.
89' HARD WORK
Ashley Cole is booked by referee Howard Webb, who warns the England man to calm down. Now Oscar forces Sylvain Distin into a mistake before Fernando Torres wins his side a corner.
86' OSCAR TIME
Rafa Benitez decides to send on Oscar in place of Juan Mata, who has been impressive once again. Arguably Chelsea's player of the season!
84' CLOCK TICKING
Juan Mata and substitute Victor Moses combine well before Ramires goes over, but he falls over and referee Howard Webb doesn't hand Chelsea the free-kick. Time is ticking for Everton, who can't do anything without the ball.
82' FINAL CHANGE
Young Ross Barkley, who replaced Steven Naismith, looks to get involved in the action. Meanwhile, David Moyes decides to go for broke and send Bryan Oviedo on for Everton goalscorer Steven Pienaar, who looks to have picked up an injury as he goes off.
79' EVERTON CHANGE
The Toffees are second only to Manchester United in comeback wins. The Tottenham game earlier this season comes to mind. David Moyes responds to Rafa Benitez's change by sending on Apostolos Vellios for Thomas Hitzlsperger. 'Der Hammer' has been very quiet this afternoon.
76' SIGN HIM UP
It's a clear message from the Chelsea supporters to the club's hierarchy. Rafa Benitez decides to send on Victor Moses for Eden Hazard.
74' LAMPARD AGAIN
Ramires drives into the Everton box and his cross causes mayhem as Eden Hazard picks out Juan Mata, whose shot is parried by Tim Howard only for Frank Lampard to slot the ball home from close-range and Chelsea are ahead at fortress Goodison Park.
73' GOOOAAALLL!!!
FRANK LAMPARD
72' OFF THE BAR
Everton hit the woodwork for the third time in the match as Nikica Jelavic stoops low to meet Leighton Baines' superb cross to send it towards goal, but the Croatian is denied by the Chelsea frame of the goal.
70' GOOD EFFORT
At the other end Ross Turnbull is tested by Leon Osman's drive from the edge of the box.
69' EARLY STRIKE
Fernando Torres looks to try and catch Tim Howard off guard as he picks up the loose ball before turning and hitting his right-footer towards the top corner, but the United States International parries his effort around the post for a corner.
66' EASY DECISION
Johnny Heitinga's up and under is held again by Ross Turnbull, who is being tested early in the second half. Meanwhile, Steven Pienaar is shown a yellow card by referee Howard Webb after a late tackle on David Luiz in the middle of the park.
63' WINDY CITY
The conditions are windy on Merseyside today as Leighton Baines' cross is cleared by David Luiz and then Phil Jagielka's high ball back into the mixer is well held by substitute goalkeeper Ross Turnbull. The wind is obviously not a problem for him.
60' IN THE BALANCE
Cesar Azpilicueta picks out David Luiz, but the busy Brazilian fires wide of the mark. This game is in the balance with both teams looking to take all three points. Both managers might now be thinking about making changes.
58' WONDERFUL MOVE
Super stuff from Chelsea as Juan Mata finds Eden Hazard on the edge of the box and his delicious back heel finds Fernando Torres in space, but his shot is saved and even if he had scored, he would have been flagged for offside anyway.
56' POOR TOUCH
Saying that David Luiz then plays arguably the pass of the game to find Fernando Torres in space, but his first touch lets him down in front of goal.
55' POOR DISTRIBUTION
Leighton Baines and Steven Pienaar combine, until Chelsea win the ball back, but David Luiz fails to find another colleague. His distribution hasn't been the best today!
52' LOVELY CROSS
Ramires whips a super ball into the box, which Phil Jagielka helps around the post for the corner. The men in white have certainly started this half a lot stronger than they did in the opening 45 minutes as Leighton Baines changes his shirt.
49' BIG BLOW
Victor Anichebe goes on a surging run down the right, but it comes to nothing. The Cech injury was an ankle problem by the way fans. Bit of a blow to the Blues, because the Czech International made some big saves in that first-half.
46' BACK UNDERWAY
These sides cannot be separated as get the second half underway. Everton's 13 match home unbeaten run is the longest active streak in the Premier League and they have lost just one of their last eight top flight games against Chelsea, who themselves are aiming for a fourth straight win this afternoon. A change in goalkeeper for the visitors as Ross Turnbull comes on for Petr Cech, who maybe injured or ill.
45' HALF-TIME
After yesterday's 35 Premier League goals, we've had two already today in a thoroughly entertaining first 45 minutes at Goodison Park. It took just 63 seconds for the Toffees to open the scoring as Steven Pienaar was johnny on the spot to tuck the loose ball away after Victor Anichebe has struck the post. The hosts failed to add a killer second as they dominated much of the half and they were made to pay when just four minutes before the break, Frank Lampard headed Chelsea level from Ramires' cross.
45' ADDED TIME
Frank Lampard has scored five or more goals in the past 16 Premier League seasons, which is some stat as we enter stoppage time.
43' SUPER FRANK
Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer adds to his tally with the equalising goal at Goodison Park. It was well worked too. Ramires was allowed too much time and space on the right-edge of the area to drift his cross into the box and Frank Lampard powered his header into the back of the net and past a statuesque Tim Howard.
42' GOOOAAALLL!!!
FRANK LAMPARD
42' AMBITIOUS LAMPS
Steven Naismith climbs high at the back post, but fails to direct the ball towards goal. Meanwhile, at the other end Howard Webb hands Chelsea a free-kick around 35-yards from goal in a central position, but Frank Lampard's effort strikes the wall and falls to Fernando Torres, who wins the corner.
39' INCHES AWAY
Everton break through Steven Pienaar and he finds Nikica Jelavic in space. The Croatian looks to take on Gary Cahill but instead lashes his left-foot strike towards goal, which seems to be heading into the far corner. However, Peter Cech dives across to touch the ball away for a corner.
35' CHELSEA CHANCE
The Blues create their best chance of the game as Juan Mata allows the overlapping Cesar Azpilicueta to cross the ball from the right, but the slight deflection off Steven Pienaar takes it away from the sliding figure of Ashley Cole at the back post.
32' MORE COMPOSURE
Better stuff from Chelsea this time, but Fernando Torres is easily bullied off the ball by the giant figure of Sylvain Distin.
30' HERO HOWARD
This game is warming up nicely now and although Ramires' driving run is halted on the edge of the box, the ball runs to Juan Mata who hits his shot low through defenders, but Tim Howard is aware and saves it thanks to his legs.
28' WHAT A SAVE
Petr Cech denies Leon Osman's fierce low drive from just inside the area with a big right hand to turn the ball around the post for a corner. That ball looked destined for the back of the onion bag until Cech's intervention!
25' BASIC STUFF
Everton are doing the basics well. Throw-ins, corners and their overall organisation this afternoon. The Toffees last defeat at Goodison Park came against Arsenal back in March.
23' CHELSEA PRESS
Back to the game and after the men in all white keep a hold of the ball, they eventually work it out wide to Ramires, but he skies his right-foot curler high and wide into the Gwladys street end of the ground.
20' NO PROTEST
As we approached the 16th minute, Chelsea fans didn't sing out Roberto Di Matteo's name, which they have been doing since he was given the boot. Maybe, they're coming around to Rafa Benitez's way of thinking!
17' BETTER BLUES
Chelsea have scored 26 goals in their last seven games, but it'll all about defending and not letting Everton score a killer second as we approach a quarter of a way through this half. The visitors do keep the ball for a while until Ramires fails to collect Juan Mata's pass out wide.
14' ONE WAY TRAFFIC
Everton currently lie only two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea, but as things stand, they will leapfrog their opponents by the end of the afternoon. There is still a long way to go in this game though, but Chelsea have failed to find any form so far and the hosts continue to dominate.
12' UPPER HAND
The tactical upper hand delongs to David Moyes at the moment. Eden Hazard's attempted through ball finds nobody, while at the other end Gary Cahill makes a superb last-ditch challenge to deny an opportunity for the lively Nikica Jelavic.
10' OFF THE POST
Chelsea are under some serious pressure here at Goodison Park as Gary Cahill slides into Steven Pienaar to concede a cheap free-kick just outside the area and Nikica Jelavic's right-footer over the wall strikes the post with Petr Cech beaten all ends up.
7' CHELSEA STUNNED
Everton are clearly not missing the suspended Marouane Fellaini in midfield today and all the early pressing from the home side has got the visitors shaken and stirred. They'll look to retain possession and make Chelsea play the ball long.
3' WHAT A START
The crazy weekend continues after just 63 seconds as Chelsea are cut open. It all started with a great run down the right hand side by Phil Jagielka and his cross was struck against the post by Victor Anichebe, but the South African was on hand to hammer his low drive past Petr Cech and into the back of the net.
2' GOOOAAALLL!!!
STEVEN PIENAAR
1' WE'RE UNDERWAY
Here we go at a packed Goodison Park then for what should be a ripsnorter of a clash folks. Remember, both these teams are in-form with the Toffees on a seven-match unbeaten streak, winning three and drawing four of those contests while Chelsea have run off three straight wins after their seven-game Premier League winless streak and interim boss Rafa Benitez has won five and drawn one of his last six top flight meetings with the Merseysiders. Expect a few goals today and don't go anywhere!
0' TEAM NEWS
Everton make two changes to the team which defeated Wigan in their last outing. There is no Phil Neville so Johnny Heitinga comes into the defence with Steven Naismith expected to play in midfield in place of injured Darron Gisbson. Frank Lampard returns to the Chelsea midfield to play alongside David Luiz. Ramires is expected to play wide on the right with Victor Moses on the bench. Eden Hazard comes in for Oscar in what's expected to be a 4-2-3-1 formation. John Mikel Obi is out with a knee injury while Petr Cech makes his 400th appearance for the club.

0' MATCH PREVIEW
Everton currently lie only two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea after a solid first half of the season and would leapfrog their opponents and potentially even into third spot were they to win today. They have lost only two league games - the joint best record in the top flight - and are one of only two clubs unbeaten at home. The Toffees are also Chelsea's bogey-team, having won the last three league meetings at Goodison Park. The west Londoners arrive in Merseyside for what is their ninth and final game of a punishing December that has included a gruelling Club World Cup adventure in Japan as they aim to move above Tottenham and back into third spot. Interim Blues manager Rafa Benitez's rotation policy seems to have worked a treat, yielding six wins in seven games and have outscored opponents 12-1 in that run, albeit eight of those goals came at home to Aston Villa. And Fernando Torres seems to be back to his best with seven goals in his last seven appearances in all competitions.
0' RAFA'S LUCK
Benitez has won on his last three league visits to Goodison Park and he's hoping to extend that record this afternoon. However, after once branding the Toffees as one of the Premier League's 'smaller teams' so it's no surprise that the Spaniard will expect a hostile reception. Benitez is looking forward to the clash though. He said: "It is a good team and a tough game for sure. We have to be ready. For us, we have to be ready physically as well as mentally for the game. They have been doing well in the past year and we know that Goodison is a difficult place to go to." Their Boxing Day win at Norwich was only their second 1-0 victory of the season and the Spaniard said: "Would I sign for 1-0 five times?. I would say, 'Yes, no problem'." Everton, meanwhile, have finally shaken off their tag as slow starters after a strong first half of the campaign and will aim to continue in the same vein in 2013. David Moyes said: "I think we have done okay. I think we have played well at times. I'm a bit disappointed we didn't get a few more victories when we maybe could. But we have been on a pretty good run and are pretty consistent in what we do. I can't ask for an awful lot more. The players have done really well."
0' EARLY TEAM NEWS
Everton midfielder Darron Gibson is hoping to prove his fitness in order to feature today. Gibson - eligible after his red card in last week's win at West Ham was overturned - was withdrawn at half-time against Wigan on Boxing Day with a thigh strain. Right-back Seamus Coleman could return after a knock but midfielder Marouane Fellaini completes a three-match ban and defender Tony Hibbert (hamstring) and striker Kevin Mirallas (calf) are out. Ramires is expected to return to the Blues squad. The Brazilian midfielder missed the Boxing Day win at Norwich with a slight knee injury and Benitez was confident he would be fit for the trip. Today's clash is set to come too soon for defender John Terry (knee), while striker Daniel Sturridge could be omitted from the squad again ahead of his proposed move to Liverpool.
0' REFEREE
Howard Webb takes charge of what's bound to be a heated contest at Goodison Park. The 41-year-old former South Yorkshire police sergeant is Rotherham's finest and is counted amongst the all-time top men in black having taken charge of some of the world's highest-profile football matches including the FA Cup Final, the FA Community Shield and the final of the League Cup. He also refereed the finals of both the UEFA Champions League and FIFA World Cup in the same year - 2010. He'll need to be at his very best, along with his team of assistants Mike Mullarkey and Darren Cann for what should be a ripsnorter of a clash. The fourth official is Phil Dowd.
