90' SUPER SUAREZ SINKS SUNDERLAND
Luis Suarez scored twice to send Liverpool on their way to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Sunderland at Anfield. The effervescent Uruguayan ran riot as the Black Cats crumbled, and could have scored a bucketload. Sunderland played reasonably in the first half but were undone in the 19th minute as Suarez's super through ball set up Raheem Sterling to chip Simon Mignolet for the opener. Suarez then scored the second seven minutes later after a terrific solo run. Martin O'Neill's men went close through a Matt Kilgallon header that drew a top save from Pepe Reina and a James McClean toepoke that ended up narrowly wide, but were unable to summon anything after the break. Liverpool rounded things off with Suarez's 53rd-minute strike, and only a string of saves from Mignolet prevented the Reds running up a cricket score.

For a moment it looks like Joe Allen has his first goal for Liverpool following a beautiful exhange of passes between the diminutive midfielder and Stewart Downing. Allen passes the ball calmly into the net, only for it to be called back for offside. That was marginal but probably the correct decision.

Glen Johnson skins Gardner on the left and cuts it back for Allen, whose right-footed effort ends up wide. That may well have been the wrong choice of foot.

Adam Johnson's namesake Glen hits the side-netting with a piledriver after cutting inside from the left wing.
78' WOEFUL FROM JOHNSON
Adam Johnson finds a yard of space on the flank and fires in a cross that sails far over the area and out for a throw-in on the other side. That sums up the former Manchester City man's night.

Suso has the ball in the net with a super finish before realising the whistle had gone for offside. The young Spaniard may have been unfortunate there; that decision looked contentious to say the least.

Sunderland's third and final substitution sees David Vaughan replace Rose, while Martin Skrtel has taken a knock and makes way for Jamie Carragher. That puts the Merseysider at second in the all-time list of league appearances for Liverpool, overtaking Billy Liddell.

A weighted ball from Suso finds Downing on the left, the winger playing a pass inside for Joe Allen. The Welshman goes for goal but sees his shot blocked by the diving Danny Rose.

Simon Mignolet comes to the rescue again as Allen's high ball finds the chest of Suarez, whose poked effort is well saved by the Belgian keeper.

Steven Gerrard makes use of Downing's selfless decoy run to dink a typically pinpoint pass over the back line for who else but LUIS SUAREZ. The striker controls the ball on his chest and finished with aplomb past the helpless Mignolet.

Suarez somehow manages to keep the ball from two defenders despite being prone on the ground. Out of this world skills.
50' STERLING DOESN'T STRIKE TWICE
Luis Suarez provides Sterling with another wonderful pass into the England man's path. This time the lobbed finish is wayward and ends up on the roof of the net. That was a great opportunity.
49' CROSS PURPOSES
Liverpool pepper the Sunderland area with crosses in the early part of the second half. First Henderson and then Johnson send in super low balls with nobody on hand to finish.
46' SECOND HALF
The teams are back out and the second half is underway. Sunderland have made a change, bringing Fraizer Campbell on for Sessegnon.
45' THE SUAREZ SHOW
Liverpool are two goals to the good and in control here at Anfield. Sunderland have played reasonably but haven't done enough to stop that man Luis Suarez. The Reds' star turn has yet again been the standout performer, first setting up Raheem Sterling for the opener with a terrific through ball before scoring himself following an exhilarating run. In fairness, Sterling's lobbed finish was also top quality. The Black Cats created the odd chance, most notably when Pepe Reina was forced to pull off a superb back post stop to keep out Matt Kilgallon's header. James McClean should have scored after playing an excellent one-two with Stephane Sessgnon, instead poking wide, but as the half wore on Liverpool looked more and more superior. Martin O'Neill will need to pull off some speech to rally his deflated troops.

44' FRUSTRATED FANS
The crowd are up in arms as the ref gives a free kick following what they thought was a superb tackle by Lucas on Adam Johnson. The challenge was certainly firm but did look fair.

Agger leaps towards a Steven Gerrard free kick and misses out as Craig Gardner nods it off the Dane's head.

Liverpool break away through Suarez, who beats Kilgallon again to feed Henderson. The midfielder in turn plays in Downing, whose low shot across goal is deflected agonisingly wide of the far post.

Luis Suarez shows the blinkered side of his game as he shoots from a near-impossible angle with Johnson shouting for the ball in the centre. It makes for an easy save for Mignolet.

Larsson hits the wall with a free kick but gets a second bite of the cherry. This time the Swede chips it to the back post where Matt Kilgallon rises to head goalwards. Pepe Reina pulls off a stupendous low save to keep it out.

Jordan Henderson, whose confidence is rocketing, hits one from all of 30 yards. The shot has power but is directed straight at Simon Mignolet, who gets his body behind it to save.

The Black Cats win a free kick just outside the box. Craig Gardner runs up and spanks an effort into the wall, the ball spinning narrowly wide of the target.
28' ALMOST THREE
Gerrard's ball out to the right finds Andre Wisdom, who slips a pass down the line to Henderson. The former Sunderland man plays in a low cross to the back post, where Stewart Downing can't quite divert the ball into the net.
26' GOAL!!! LIVERPOOL
Phil Dowd plays an excellent advantage as Kilgallon tries to pull back LUIS SUAREZ, the mercurial striker breaking free of his tormentor to bear down on goal. Suarez ignores several well-placed teammates to hit a low right-footed effort across the keeper and into the bottom corner.

Sessegnon manages to wriggle free of Glen Johnson on the left flank, but the forward's cross is poor and Daniel Agger clears with ease.
22' WHAT A CHANCE
A gaping hole appears in the home defence as McClean plays a sumptuous one-two with Stephane Sessegnon, only to poke his shot wide from a great position inside the area.
19' GOAL!!! LIVERPOOL
Luis Suarez picks up the ball in front of the Sunderland defence and slots a delightful pass through for RAHEEM STERLING. The youngster leaves his opponents eating dust to speed clear and lob the goalkeeper with consummate ease. What a terrific strike.

Both sides have started to commit errors as the game goes through a scrappy period. The passes aren't finding their marks at either end right now.

As Liverpool crank up the pressure, Gerrard's corner is headed goalwards by Henderson but Mignolet is alert to the danger.

Stewart Downing steps up to take the resulting free kick and bends it over the wall to force a top-notch diving save from Simon Mignolet.

Matt Kilgallon fells Luis Suarez with a cynical tackle that's clearly designed to stop the dangerous Uruguayan in his tracks. The defender gets a stern talking-to from Phil Dowd but nothing more.

Jordan Henderson knocks the ball to his right where Gerrard is on hand to play in Wisdom with a clever ball. The full back takes aim and drives a powerful effort over the bar from 18 yards.
6' SUNDERLAND PRESS
Sebastian Larsson's corner from the left is flicked on by James McClean and so nearly falls for Steven Fletcher at the back post. As it is the Scot can't quite reach the ball and the chance goes begging.
4' GERRARD OFF TARGET
As you'd expect from the home side, Liverpool have made all the running so far. Steven Gerrard attempts one of his trademark 40 yard passes to play in Andre Wisdom, but this time the Reds and England skipper is off target.

Nuri Sahin is back in the squad for Liverpool despite reports that the Reds are trying to send the midfielder back to parent club Real Madrid. Perhaps he still has a role to play.

Brendan Rodgers restores Andre Wisdom to the team in place of the injured Jose Enrique, while Lucas replaces Joe Allen and Jordan Henderson retains his place in midfield. Sunderland's only change sees Danny Rose come in for the stricken John O'Shea.

Luis Suarez was back to his exhilarating best against QPR and yet again will be the man Liverpool supporters pin their hopes on to win this match. Sunderland's not always particularly mobile back line may well have trouble containing the tricky striker, but then any defence in the world would struggle on Suarez's day.
0' ROSE RECALL?
Martin O'Neill is desperate to keep hold of left back Danny Rose when the Spurs man's loan spell runs out at the end of the current campaign. The England under-21 defender's form has been nothing short of magnificent all season and the fans absolutely love him, but Andre Villas-Boas has taken note and could well call him in.
0' LAMPARD FOR LIVERPOOL?
Liverpool have reportedly joined the swelling ranks who are taking an interest in Chelsea's Frank Lampard, with the 34-year-old's contract expiring at the end of the season. If the England midfielder were to join the Reds, an age old question at international level would again be raised; can he and Steven Gerrard play together? That's a new headache for Brendan Rodgers.
0' REF WATCH
Phil Dowd is the man to preside over tonight's fixture. Mr Dowd has been fairly lenient so far this season, having handed out an average of only 2.77 yellow cards per game in the Premier League, and with Sunderland skipper Lee Cattermole out injured that statistic shouldn't be affected too much. The main concern here could be Luis Suarez's honesty.
0' LIVERPOOL V SUNDERLAND
It's been a mixed bag of results for both Liverpool and Sunderland recently, so a victory for either side at Anfield tonight could go some way towards providing some stability and the beginnings of a rise up the Barclays Premier League table. The Reds erased memories of a Boxing Day defeat to Stoke with a 3-0 dismissal of QPR three days ago and will be looking to produce more of the scintillating attacking play they showed in the first half of that match. Sunderland followed a Boxing Day victory over Manchester City with defeat to Tottenham on Saturday, but that result against the Champions proved that Martin O'Neill's men can take on all comers.
