Minute Commentary
90' SAINTS COME BACK TO SNATCH CHELSEA DRAW
Second half goals from Rickie Lambert and Jason Puncheon sealed a 2-2 draw for Southampton at Stamford Bridge, which aimed a chorus of boos at a Chelsea side that have now only won once in their past seven league home games. The Blues led 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Demba Ba - his first for Chelsea at the Bridge - and Eden Hazard, and looked good value for it. But Southampton, whose manager Nigel Adkins had made the bold move to start top scorer Rickie Lambert on the substitute's bench, hit back just three minutes after Lambert's introduction on 55 minutes. Buoyed by their goal, the Saints looked more positive in their play, and moments after Frank Lampard's free kick had sailed just inches wide of Artur Boruc's post, had equalised. Promising youngster Luke Shaw made good ground on the left flank, before crossing into the Chelsea box. Rushing onto his pass was Jason Puncheon, who in one elegant movement, flicked the ball up with his left foot before lashing home on the volley brilliantly. Ba and Fernando Torres both had chances to win it for Chelsea, but the Saints held on, avoiding defeat against the Blues for the first time in six matches.
90' FULL TIME
A chorus of boos resound around Stamford Bridge, with Chelsea now having won one home game in their last seven. For Southampton, they edge another point clear of the drop zone after a remarkable comeback.
90' LATE PRESSURE
It's all Chelsea as we near the final whistle, but Southampton are defending valiantly. This will be a really good point for them.
90' PENALTY SHOUT
Gary Cahill finds himself in a surprisingly advanced position in the Southampton box, and after controlling a long ball, appears to be wrestled to the ground by a Saints defender. No penalty given from Michael Oliver, though.
86' FIRST CHANCE FOR TORRES
Nice build-up play by Fernando Torres, playing a quick one-two with Eden Hazard on the right. He brings the ball into the Southampton box but drives a low effort into the side netting.
84' YELLOW CARD
David Luiz becomes the first player in Michael Oliver's book, blocking off Gaston Ramirez as he surged down the centre of the pitch.
83' ACROBATIC EFFORT
Juan Mata floats a quick free kick into the Southampton box; Demba Ba attempts an acrobatic volley goalwards, but his effort is blocked by a Saints body.
80' CHELSEA SUB
Rafa Benitez finally blinks, introducing Fernando Torres in place of Frank Lampard for Chelsea's first change of the night.
78' SILLY FOUL
Gaston Ramirez makes a silly foul 25 yards out from the Southampton goal. Luckily for him, David Luiz's free kick is blasted straight into the wall.
75' MORE ON THAT GOAL!
This is a superb goal. Luke Shaw does really well on the left flank to swing in a cross. Running onto the ball, Puncheon flicks it up with his left foot before powering in a volley from 20 yards. A sublime finish!
75' GOAL!
Oh my days! What an incredible finish from Jason Puncheon! It's 2-2 now here!
74' SOUTHAMPTON SUB
Final throw of the dice for Nigel Adkins and Southampton, as Gaston Ramirez replaces Guly for the final 16 or so minutes.
72' INCHES WIDE
So close to 3-1, but Lampard's set piece is dragged inches wide of the near post. Artur Boruc was left flat-footed.
71' FREE KICK ON THE EDGE
Juan Mata is down and receiving treatment on the edge of the Southampton box after a foul by Maya Yoshida. Chelsea have a free kick just outside the D, which Frank Lampard looks like he fancies.
68' LOVELY MOVEMENT
Demba Ba is proving with every game just how important he might be for Chelsea, and is turning into the complete striker by the minute. Laying the ball off to Juan Mata 40 yards out, he sprints forward in a bid to latch onto the Spaniard's lofted pass. The Southampton defence is caught sleeping, allowing Ba to wriggle in between and get a volley away from inside the box. Luckily for the visitors, but unluckily for fans of total football, Ba's effort flies over the bar.
67' SOUTHAMPTON SUB
A second change for the visitors, as Richard Chaplow replaces Steven Davis.
63' PRESSURE FROM VISITORS
As predicted, Southampton's goal has given the visitors a new lease of life. Their passing in the past five minutes alone has been so much more positive, and Chelsea are really on the back foot as it stands.
60' UP THE OTHER END
Almost immediately from the restart, Oscar wiggles his way through a number of Southampton challenges, but his poke at goal flies well over the crossbar.
59' MORE ON THAT GOAL!
Rickie Lambert takes his tally for the season into double figures, heading in brilliantly from Nathaniel Clyne's cross. Out of all the Englishmen in the Premier League, only Jermain Defoe has more goals this season. Great decision by Nigel Adkins to bring him on so early; though perhaps he should have featured from the beginning.
58' GOAL!
What. An. Impact. Rickie Lambert nods one back for Southampton just over three minutes since entering the field of play. Game on!
55' SOUTHAMPTON SUB
Here he is. Southampton's top scorer, Rickie Lambert, replaces Jay Rodriguez. He has a little over 35 minutes to make an impact. Plenty of time.
53' WASTED DELIVERY
Great chance for Southampton to exert some pressure on the Chelsea defence, as they're awarded a free kick on the left-hand touchline. Guly swings it in but it's far too long, and goes out behind for a goal kick.
51' CONSERVATIVE APPROACH
It seems we're in for much of the same in the second half from both sides: lots of passes but not all that many in threatening attacking positions. A Southampton goal would certainly inject a bit of life into the game.
47' EARLY CHANCE
The first chance of the second half comes from an unlikely source: Ashley Cole tries his luck with a lobbed effort from long range, but it's easy for Artur Boruc to claim.
46' BACK UNDERWAY
Chelsea get things going for the second period. No sign of any changes as yet, though if the scores remain like this, it surely can't be long before the likes of Rickie Lambert and Gaston Ramirez enter the fray for Southampton.
45' HALF TIME
That's the break. It's probably come at a good time for Southampton, who can now regroup after a sustained spell of pressure from Chelsea towards the end of the half. It finished 5-1 to the Blues when the pair met in the FA Cup earlier this month. It wouldn't surprise me if we saw a similar scoreline come 90 minutes.
45' MORE ON THAT GOAL!
Lovely, lovely finish from Eden Hazard to make it 2-0 to Chelsea. Rushing onto the rebound after Ramires' shot had cannoned off the crossbar, the Belgian displays immaculate technique to half-volley into the back of the net from the edge of the box. He made it look so, so easy.
45' GOAL!
Eden Hazard doubles Chelsea's lead on the stroke of half time.
44' ROUND THE POST
Lovely headed knockdown from Demba Ba in the Southampton box. Frank Lampard then angles a ball goalwards but the onrushing Eden Hazard's poked effort is turned round the post by Artur Boruc.
43' SKEWED WIDE OF GOAL
Mata takes the ball into the Southampton box but seems to get it stuck under his feet slightly. He turns and lays it off to Frank Lampard, who from the edge of the area, skews his effort wide of the far post.
41' QUICK OUT THE BLOCKS
Juan Mata pumps a long ball over the Southampton backline that Demba Ba looks to rush onto. The Chelsea frontman is beaten to the ball by Saints 'keeper Artur Boruc, though, who hoofs clear from the edge of the box.
37' DECENT EFFORT
That's much better, Southampton. Jay Rodriguez brings Maya Yoshida's long ball under control, before laying off to Steven Davis who drags his driven effort from 15 yards out just wide.
35' NEGATIVE PLAY
Southampton need to start playing a bit more positively if they're going to find an equaliser here. They're having a fair amount of possession, but are using it to spread the ball along their backline as opposed to trying to work an opportunity in attack. That might say more about Chelsea's defensive ranks, but Nigel Adkins needs to have a word with his players about the gulf between possession and opportunities.
31' STICK TO SCORING GOALS
Demba Ba brings down a Southampton player about 40 yards out from the Chelsea goal. Jason Puncheon swings in the resulting free kick, but it's cleared behind by a defender in blue at the second attempt. Guly's corner amounts to nothing.
29' CHANGE OF ATMOSPHERE
The mood around Stamford Bridge was very flat in the moments before Ba's opener. Things appear to have livened up somewhat now Chelsea lead 1-0, though.
25' MORE ON THAT GOAL!
Frank Lampard wriggles away from a couple of challenges inside the box before laying the ball off to Cesar Azpilicueta on the right flank. Azpilicueta's cross is helped along by a combination of Oscar and Jos Hooiveld, and Demba Ba makes no mistake by wrapping his leg around the ball to volley home. Clinical from Ba.
25' GOAL!
Out of nothing, Demba Ba opens the scoring: his first Premier League goal for Chelsea!
21' SLOW PACE
It's fair to say this one hasn't been the greatest of games yet. Neither goalkeeper has had a save to make, and there's been very little action outside of the middle third. This game needs a Fernando Torres to liven things up methinks.
17' FIRST CHANCE FOR THE VISITORS
Southampton have their first meaningful effort of the game, but Guly's cross from the left is headed wide by the onrushing Jason Puncheon.
14' BLASTED OVER
Another good bit of build-up play from Chelsea culminates in Cesar Azpilicueta lofting the ball high and wide of the Southampton goal from the edge of the box.
10' NEEDED A BIT OF LUCK
More good work from Ba - who even in these early stages is justifying his inclusion ahead of Fernando Torres. He pumps the ball wide to Ramires, who crosses into the box from the right. Luckily for the Saints, it takes a couple of ricochets and away to safety.
7' WONDERFUL BALL
David Luiz has his critics, but you can't knock him down on his passing. Receiving the ball a good 50 yards out, he splits the Southampton defence right down the middle, threading through Demba Ba. The Senegalese frontman can't quite get his body round to work a shot, though.
5' DRAGGED WIDE
First real attempt at goal, as Oscar receives the ball on the edge of the box, only to drag his effort wide of Artur Boruc's far post. Some good movement in the build-up from Demba Ba.
3' LIVELY START
Both sides have promising-looking counter attacks cut out by the opposition. First, Ramires is easily outmuscled by Morgan Schneiderlin on the edge of the Southampton box, which prompts the visitors to flood forward with pace, only for their own attack to break down.
1' HERE WE GO
Southampton get the ball rolling for the first half, in their usual red strip. Chelsea are in their familiar blue.

0' KICK-OFF - 19:45 GMT
Join us just before kick-off for all the confirmed team news, followed by all the minute-by-minute action from Stamford Bridge.
0' SOUTHAMPTON EARLY TEAM NEWS
Young left back Luke Shaw could miss tonight's clash with a gashed knee, meaning Nigel Adkins will have to tinker with his backline for the trip north to London. Jose Fonte and Adam Lallana are still out, and Emmanuel Mayuka is with the Zambia squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.
0' CHELSEA EARLY TEAM NEWS
Chelsea skipper John Terry could lead his team out for the first time since November this evening, after making his comeback as a substitute against Stoke at the weekend. Gary Cahill is available for Rafa Benitez after missing Saturday's win in order to attend the birth of his son, while Demba Ba and Fernando Torres will both be vying for starts.
0' HEAD-TO-HEAD
Chelsea have won five straight meetings with Southampton, and haven't lost in seven – a run that stretches back to January 2002 when the Saints won 4-2 at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have also edged the all-time meetings, winning 36 of 89 encounters with tonight's opponents in all competitions, with the Saints recording 28 victories. The last time the pair met in the Premier League was in Southampton's relegation season of 2004/05, with Frank Lampard and Eidur Gudjohnsen (2) bagging for the Blues. Kevin Phillips got the Southampton goal.
0' CHELSEA VICTORIOUS IN RECENT MEETING
Chelsea knocked Southampton out of the FA Cup just less than two weeks ago, recording an emphatic 5-1 victory at St Mary's. The Saints netted first through Jay Rodriguez after 22 minutes, but led for just 13 minutes before Demba Ba opened his Chelsea account and Victor Moses gave the Blues the lead before half time. Branislav Ivanovic and Ba again scored in the first 15 minutes of the second half, before Frank Lampard rounded off the scoring from the spot seven minutes from time.
0' A CLASH OF TWO FORM TEAMS
After a slightly shaky start to his tenure as Chelsea interim manager, Rafa Benitez appears to be heading in the right direction. The Blues have won five of their last six league games, outscoring their opponents 18-3 in those fixtures. But they go into tonight's clash with Southampton having lost their last home game 1-0 to QPR. The visitors, too, are enjoying a decent spell of form for themselves. Unbeaten in four, with just two losses in their last 11 Premier League matches, the Saints sit 15th, and would be in touching distance of Sunderland above them with a win this evening. Free-scoring Chelsea might not have it all their own way tonight, either. The Saints conceded more than two goals in nine of their first 10 top-flight matches of the season, but have since allowed more than one just once in their last 11.
0' THE MATCH
There's just the one Premier League game taking place this evening, as Chelsea host Southampton at Stamford Bridge, in a fixture that was rearranged from December due to the home side's FIFA World Club Cup participation. If the pair's recent FA Cup meeting is anything to go by, we could be in for goals, goals, goals. Keep up-to-date with all the action from kick-off at 19:45 GMT.
