Reading vs. Chelsea
Minute Commentary
90' ADAM LE FONDRE THE HERO ONCE AGAIN!
Wow, shame on those Reading fans that left 10 minutes before time! They'll be regretting that as goals from Juan Mata and Frank Lampard seemed to have given Chelsea an easy win. They were coasting to victory - it was the most comfortable of victories. That is, until a last-minute Adam Le Fondre fightback. The star man pulled one back on 90 minutes following a magnificent, disguised pass from Hope Akpan. Even then nobody could have predicted a late, late equaliser, Adam Le Fondre popping up again with a wonderful volley to steal a point with the last kick!
90' FULL TIME!
It's all over. Cesar Azpilicueta is booked late on for diving and the final whistle is greeting with pandemonium in the stands!
90' MORE ON THAT GOAL
The ball is punted forward by Adam Federici and ADAM LE FONDRE is the epitomy of calmness in a chaotic penalty area, as he volleys home. The Madejski erupts as Reading earn an unbelievable point!!
90' GOOOAAALLL
It's in!! Adam Le Fondre has singlehandedly turned the game on its head. 2-2!
90' SUBSTITUTION
Torres off, Ba on, as Chelsea run down the clock.
90' TAKING LIBERTIES
Ramires rolls around on the floor, writhing in pain. His thesbianism is short-lived, however, as he jumps to his feet to force Adam Federici into a superb save. Miraculous...
87' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Well, this wasn't in the script. Hope Akpan provides the assist and ADAM LE FONDRE doesn't have to do anything special, beating Ross Turnbull at the near post. This sets up a nervy last few minutes for Chelsea.
87' GOOOAAALLL
Reading pull one back! Adam Le Fondre the scorer.
86' CHANCE FOR A THIRD!
Yossi Benayoun threads the ball through for Oscar, but the scoreline remains as it is, thanks to a save from Adam Federici's foot.
84' TURNBULL UNTROUBLED
Well, there haven't been any shots on target from the home side, but this is the closest they've come. Adam Le Fondre nips in front of Frank Lampard and tries to dink the ball over Ross Turnbull, who watches the ball travel over the bar.
83' NASTY INJURY
Gary Cahill is down for some treatment after suffering a head in the face, as two players battle for a lofted ball. He should be okay, though.
81' GOOD VS BETTER
In truth, I can't pinpoint an underperformer in the Reading side tonight. Everyone has pulled their weight but sometimes that isn't enough - namely when you're up against the European champions.
77' SUBSTITUTIONS
Both sides make changes, with Reading bringing on Hope Akpan for Jobi McAnuff and Yossi Benayoun coming on for Chelsea. Juan Mata departs, having easily outshined every other individual on the pitch today.
74' FORMALITY
The game has become a pretty dull affair now, with the result pretty much decided. Reading have given up and the Blues are content to run down the clock. Fernando Torres receives the ball in the penalty area, controls, turns and volleys way over. Trademark Torres at the moment, I'm afraid.
72' SHOOTING PRACTICE
Fernando Torres races through on goal but the flag is already up. Nevertheless he indulges in some shooting practice, and it looks like he needs it, as Adam Federici makes an easy save from his tame shot.
70' DEFLATED
The Reading players look completely deflated after that second goal as all hope of a result is fading quickly. On the other hand, Juan Mata is literally winded and receives some treatment. He'll be fine, though.
67' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Juan Mata's corner is met by FRANK LAMPARD, who beats the keeper with a great header after peeling off Stephen Kelly. Adam Le Fondre replaces Jobi McAnuff but that sub has come five minutes too late.
66' GOOOAAALLL
Frank Lampard doubles Chelsea's lead and that is surely game over.
65' GREAT MOVE
Chelsea break with menace and it ends up with Oscar through on goal, but he doesn't shoot and only earns a corner.
63' HARTE FREE KICK
Reading earn another set play and Ian Harte's delivery - intended for Adrian Mariappa at the near post - is a good one, but the Chelsea defence do just enough to subdue the Reading chance.
60' TIME FOR CHANGE?
15 minutes into this second half and, while Reading have come into the game a little more, they have failed to create anything substantial. Perhaps it's time to throw on Adam Le Fondre.
57' SUBSTITUTION
Garath McCleary comes on to replace Danny Guthrie, which is a bit of a surprise as he's been one of the more enterprising players for the home side.
56' OSCAR CHANCE
Oscar shows some of his Brazilian magic to drift in from the right, and for a moment it looks like Reading are going to concede a second. The flamboyant winger's effort goes comfortably wide, though.
53' DRIVING FORWARD
It looks like Reading are going to be a little more ambitious now - they have an unprecedented five men to aim for in the box but Jobi McAnuff's cross isn't good enough.
50' OUCH
Frank Lampard tees up a 30-yard piledriver free kick into the top corner but instead smacks the bullet straight into the wall.
47' KEEP CALM AND GET BEHIND THE BALL
Reading have completely abandoned their attacking philosophy and are camped behind the ball. It seems they will try and keep Chelsea out for a while and then attempt to snatch an equaliser.
46' KICK OFF
Reading get the second period underway. Both sides are unchanged at the break.
45' FIRST HALF SUMMARY
It had been a perfect first 45 for Reading, but that crucial 46th minute saw Chelsea make the breakthrough. Until then, the Royals had limited the travelling side to only one chance - that of Gary Cahill, who glanced a header wide from the penalty spot. It was the best payer on the pitch - Juan Mata - who scored that soul-destroying goal on the stroke of half time, after Torres fed him through.
45' MORE ON THAT GOAL
Reading won't be happy here. There's been no stoppages whatsoever but Chelsea take the lead with the last kick of the half, after one minute of added time. Fernando Torres scoops it towards JUAN MATA, who finishes sublimely. That's a kick in the teeth for the home side, who thought they were going in level.
45' GOOOAAALLL
Juan Mata scores at the death of the first half!!
44' SHORT SPELL OF PRESSURE
Reading look to finish the half on a high, winning a free kick in a decent area. It's a chance for Guthrie to whip it in but Adrian Mariappa can't sort his feet out and the shooting chance is gone.
41' IMPORTANT LAST FEW MINUTES
Both managers know that a goal before half time would completely upturn the dynamics of the game and the bosses have took to their feet to direct their man for these last few important minutes. Chelsea work a decent opportunity for Torres but his effort embarrassingly goes near the corner flag.
40' YELLOW CARD
Ramires has been booked.
37' ACCUSTOMED TO TOP LEVEL
The difference between today's Reading and the Reading that faced Chelsea earlier on in the season is plain to see. It's true that the Royals were 2-1 up at Stamford Bridge at half time, but they were absolutely spent by the break. Now they look as fresh as when they started as they maintain their discipline and shape.
35' TREADING ON THIN ICE
Jobi McAnuff has already been booked and brings down Juan Mata. There was a case for a second yellow there but the ref is lenient and gives the offender a talking to.
32' GOOD NEWS FOR ROYALS
The action has died down somewhat in the past couple of minutes, which can only be good news for the Royals, who have been on the receiving end of all the threat. A couple of decisions have gone against the home side recently and the Reading fans are quick to react.
29' FIRST BOOKING
Jobi McAnuff is the first player to be sanctioned for a fractionally late challenge. A little harsh from the referee there. The resulting free kick brings about the best chance so far. Frank Lampard takes the free kick and Gary Cahill has a free header on the penalty area, but fails to test the keeper.
25' ALL CHELSEA
Chelsea are really controlling the game now, with the vast majority of possession. Although there have been no clear-cut opportunities as yet, the Royals look completely devoid of any attacking potential and are just hanging in there at the moment.
21' TORRES STRUGGLING UP THERE
It was perhaps a surprise that Torres was selected over Demba Ba, and the Spaniard is really having a hard time on his lonesome. Adrian Mariappa and Alex Pearce are a real physical presence and are outmuscling him every time. Chelsea work an opportunity but Lampard's shot is blocked.
18' DOWNSIDE TO READING TACTICS
Oscar is rightly horrified with himself as - under no pressure whatsover - he misguides his pass by some distance, gifting the possession back to Reading. The home side can't capitalise on the mistake with only one man forward, though, and the Chelsea dominance restarts.
14' LONG SHOT
Ashley Cole tries a long-range shot, but that's not his strong point and as expected the ball is skewed well wide.
13' FREE KICK
Danny Guthrie's delivery causes no immediate danger and Juan Mata manages to force a goal kick, pressurising Jimmy Kebe near the corner flag.
12' GOOD START FOR ROYALS
The home fans will be pretty happy with what they've seen so far and now Pavel Pogrebnyak has won a cheap free kick in a dangerous area...
9' CLUMSY IN POSSESSION
Ian Harte gives the ball away far too cheaply and Chelsea immediately look to seize upon the opportunity. Frank Lampard can't quite find Fernando Torres with the lobbed through ball, however. Nevertheless Reading can't afford that kind of play tonight.
7' CHELSEA CORNERS
Two Chelsea corners so far and Brian McDermott won't be too pleased with the way his side have dealt with them. They've both been met by black shirts, but the last attempt by Branislav Ivanovic sailed wide.
4' KARACAN ALERT
Chelsea cut through the Reading defence with too much ease, but Torres' pull-back to Mata is intercepted by an alert Jem Karacan. The resulting corner comes to nothing.
2' TURNBULL A WEAK LINK?
It's tough for reserve keepers when they are suddenly forced into first-team action. Ross Turnbull looked uneasy against Brentford so perhaps set pieces will be tricky for the visitors. An early free kick opportunity is spurned though, as Ian Harte's delivery goes straight through everybody.
1' KICK OFF
The Reading players huddle together while Torres and Mata stand over the ball. There's a huge roar from the crowd as the game gets underway. Great atmosphere!
0' CHELSEA LINE-UP
Petr Cech doesn't make the trip to the Madejski, so Rafa Benitez puts his faith in Ross Turnbull, who didn't enjoy the best of performances in the FA Cup at the weekend. Fernando Torres is picked ahead of Demba Ba, who is available from the bench should the Blues need a little extra firepower. Ryan Bertrand also earns a start.
0' READING LINE-UP
The biggest shock in the Reading line-up is the exclusion of Adam Le Fondre, who starts from the bench. Jimmy Kebe is preferred up front, with in-form Pavel Pogrebnyak alongside him. New signing Daniel Carrico isn't in tonight's squad.

0' CHELSEA TEAM NEWS
Chelsea are without Eden Hazard, who is serving the second of a three-match ban for poking an irritating ballboy with his toe. Elsewhere, there are concerns over the fitness of Petr Cech and David Luiz.
0' READING TEAM NEWS
Reading's win over Sheffield Wednesday in the cup came at the cost of Noel Hunt, who picked up an unknown knock during the game. He faces a late fitness test for tonight's game. Jason Roberts will sit this one out, while new man Daniel Carrico is also unlikely to make his Premier League debut.
0' CHELSEA VS READING: THE STATS
Here are all the facts and figures concerning tonight fixture between the Royals and the Blues: the recent encounters point strongly in favour of the visitors, who have won four of the last five matches between the two, the other being a draw. Reading's last victory over Chelsea came in the 1987 League Cup, when the Royals triumphed 3-1 over the Londoners. Current form is looking good for the hosts, though. The Berkshire-born club have won three of their last four Premier League games, and haven't lost at home for three straight games. Moreover, McDermott's side have found the net in four straight Premier League games for the first time in the season. Interestingly, Demba Ba netted twice for Newcastle when they played against Reading – perhaps he could be the key player this evening.
0' ROYALS RALLYING IN RACE FOR SAFETY
Sitting behind the ball isn't really Reading's thing; they are fonder of the high-scoring games. Their relentless determination resembles that of Blackpool when they came to the top flight a couple of seasons ago. The Seasiders fell short of safety on the last day, with a string of poor results late on in the season. Brian McDermott's men are on the up, however, and a marked improvement in the second half of the season could see them secure a second season in the top tier of English football. Much of their recent success can be attributed to Adam Le Fondre, who has racked up an impressive nine goals in his last 12 games. Whether or not he'll get any opportunities to display his efficiency in front of goal is another thing against a Chelsea side that like to control play.
0' MATCH PREVIEW
Tonight, Chelsea travel to the Madejski Stadium for their ninth game of the month, and the rigorous fixture congestion appears to be taking its toll now; despite Rafa's rotation policy, against Brentford on Sunday it was evident that the men in blue are scraping at the bottom of the barrel to grind out results at the moment. Reading, on the other hand, have not lacked energy from the first game till the last, playing positively and more recently earning four wins from the last four to give them a hope of climbing out of the relegation zone.
