Queens Park Rangers vs. Manchester United
Minute Commentary
90' UNITED JOB DONE
Three points and a 15 point lead at the summit of the league for Man Utd following what was a fairly comfortable and assured performance at Loftus Road. QPR were bright in patches, but provided very little in terms of a serious goal threat. Once Man Utd had the lead, thanks to Rafael's pile driver, it was all too simple for Fergie's men, and Giggs doubled the lead after easily beating the offside trap. QPR will have to write this one off, and pick themselves up for the next game, while the pressure is on City at Chelsea tomorrow in the title race.
90' FULL TIME
The referee ends the game. Queens Park Rangers 0 - 2 Manchester United.
90' STOPPAGE TIME
The game is pretty much over as a contest. Three minutes are signalled.
90' ODD
Samba with a free header at the back post. De Gea makes a decent save, but for some reason the referee's assistant gives a goal kick.
87' ANOTHER CHANCE
Welbeck with another chance for a third. Giggs down the left, finds Welbeck unmarked in the box, but he hesitates and is tackled.
85' DESPERATE TIMES
Queens Park Rangers are desperate here as Christopher Samba heads up front...
82' QPR ROCKING
Within seconds Man Utd almost get a third, with Julio Cesar only able to watch as a chip from Giggs bounces off his crossbar. Nani should do better with the rebound, but smashes it miles over.
80' YOU WOULD THINK ITS ALL OVER
Manchester United have doubled their lead. Ryan Giggs is the furthest man forward, and times his run to perfection to beat the offside trap, and calmy finish past Julio Cesar. Two in two for the Welshman.
79' GOOOOOOALLLL
That should be the three points in the bag. Ryan Giggs scores. Queens Park Rangers 0 - 2 Manchester United.
78' ALMOST
Welbeck gets the chance to go one-on-one with Samba, and turns the big defender inside-out. It looks like the goal is at his mercy, but his touch is too heavy, giving Hill the chance to get a crucial block in.
76' MAYBE SHOULD HAVE SCORED
Nani and Evra combine superbly down the left to free the full back in the box. His cut back squeezes through the legs of Welbeck, to the feet of Rooney, but he only has time to poke it towards goal with his toe. Easily defended in the end.
72' SUBSTITUTION FOR QPR
It's gone a little flat, so Harry decides to bring on Junior Hoilett for Andros Townsend to try and inject some pace and creativity. Townsend played well today.
72' 12 MILLION DOLLAR MAN
Samba with a little exhibition in how not to defend. Firstly he plays a horrible bouncing back-pass towards Cesar, whose only real option is to chip back to Samba, who then skies his clearance straight up in the air.
71' BRAZILIANT
Rafael has looked very bright at both ends of the park today, but after some good build up play, he is unable to find the required cross.
69' MORE EVEN
With half of the second half gone, Man Utd have looked a lot less comfortable then they did in the first. Can QPR salvage something from this game?
67' FINAL SUB FOR MAN UTD
Antonio Valencia replaces Ashley Young for Sir Alex Ferguson's final change.
64' SAMBA EFFORT
Samba gets up above Vidic from the resulting corner, but can't direct it towards goal.
64' BIT BETTER
First touches for Remy draws a decent save from De Gea. The striker cuts inside and sees a gap, but can't quite bend it past the Utd keeper. Can he provide the spark?
62' SUBSTITUTION FOR MAN UTD
To counter the QPR move, Fergie brings on Wayne Rooney for Javier Hernandez. Nothing to worry about there then.
61' SUBSTITUTION FOR QPR
Bobby Zamora, unable to continue, is replaced by Loic Remy. About time too really, Zamora was barely walking.
58' PENALTY SHOUT
Big appeals from the crowd for a penalty. Carrick is lying prone on the ground, and Taarabt falls over him. Another one that could be given on another day.
55' INJURY WATCH
Bobby Zamora looks to be hobbling a little, whilst Rafael gets a kick in the hip from Clint Hill.
52' BRIGHT START AGAIN FROM QPR
QPR have had the better of the opening exchanges once again. Townsend, who has worked hard afternoon, gets out wide and squeezes in a cross. Mackie gets in front of Vidic, but Ferdinand is covering to clear the danger.
50' ALMOST
This time QPR pass, when perhaps a shot would have been more appropriate. Mackie made a superb run across the face to open up some space, but the ball through to him is too close to De Gea.
47' SUBSITUTION FOR QPR
It seems QPR made a sneaky half time substitution. Jermaine Jenas on for Esteban Granero.
46' INJURY NEWS
It seems that Van Persie may have picked up his injury folling a collision with a cameraman in the build up to the goal.
46' KICK OFF
QPR start the second half.
45' AWAY SIDE ON TOP
The two sides are seperated by a Rafael wonder strike, but in reality the difference is more obvious. QPR started brightly, but failed to create any clear chances, restricted to a number of wayward long shots. The inevitable goal came mid-way through the half, as Rafael showed more desire than Taarabt to get to a loose ball and drove an unstoppable effort past Cesar and almost through the net. United have looked comfortable, without working too hard and despite the loss of Van Persie to injury, look odds on to take three points.
45' HALF TIME
The referee ends the half. Queens Park Rangers 0 - 1 Manchester United.
45' PENALTY SHOUT
Hernandez goes down in the box, looking for a penalty. May have been given on another day.
45' STOPPAGE TIME
The first half has flown by. Two minutes signalled.
44' OUCH
Evra gets a bit of treatment after getting Andros Townsend's boot in his face. It didn't look malicious and Evra should be ok.
41' SUBSTITUTION FOR MAN UTD
Robin Van Persie looks to have picked up a slight injury he can't shake off. Fergie takes no chances and replaces him with Danny Welbeck. Is that good news for QPR?
40' BRIGHTER FROM QPR
A good couple of minutes for QPR as they lift the tempo a little, but Man Utd seem content to sit back and soak up the pressure.
36' BUSY RAFAEL
It's a busy couple of minutes for Rafael. Firstly he is in the right place to clear Samba's header off the line, then in a matter of seconds he pops up in the QPR half to play a searching cross-field ball towards Van Persie, whose volley is well saved by Julio Cesar.
34' QPR SHOOTING PRACTICE
Adel Taarabt takes another long range shot at De Gea's goal, which does not even get close to troubling the Utd keeper. That's five or six efforts from QPR which have been just short of rubbish. Shooting practice next week I feel.
33' BETTER FROM UNITED
The goal seems to have woken the Man Utd attackers, as they start to find the gaps. Coupled with QPR defending deeper and deeper, Man Utd are looking threatening.
29' NOT QUITE
Hernandez and Nani play a neat one-two down the left, but the Mexican's cross is well over the head of everybody. Back in the box please Javier.
23' BLINDER
Van Persie does well to get to the bye-line and aim a ball across goal, but Cesar seems to make a good save a palm it away from danger, only for Rafael to run onto the loose ball and leather a first time effort right into the top corner. Smashed it!
23' GOOOOOALLLLL
A Rafael thuderbolt. Superb strike. Queens Park Rangers 0 - 1 Manchester United.
22' TAKE YOUR TIME
Granero panics a little in possession and decides to shoot from 30 yards, which almost goes out for a throw. Mackie is a tad upset he didn't play it wide.
16' CESAR SAVE
Straight down the other end, Hernandez releases Young down the left, and then busts a gut to get in the box and send a looping header towards Cesar's goal. Comfortable tip over in the end for the Brazilian.
16' OPTIMISTIC
Adel Taarabt runs at four Man Utd defenders, and gets his shot away, but it's a little weak from 25 yards.
13' NANI EFFORT
Man Utd with their first chance. Bosingwa gives away a free kick which Giggs whips into the box, but Nani can't quite make the contact he wanted and it drifts wide.
10' UNDER PRESSURE
Manchester United actually look a bit shell shocked here. QPR seem to want the ball a bit more, and are putting the Man Utd defence under early pressure. Taarabt finds a bit of space, but his cross/shot is easily gathered by De Gea.
7' BETTER THAN THAT...
QPR win an attacking free kick, and flood the Manchester United box, but the cross doesn't clear the first man. Poor.
6' HAVE A GO
No chances yet, but the opening five minutes has seen QPR show some attacking intent. Taarabt is looking bright and the midfield is offering support. Certainly looks like Harry's men will be giving it a go.
3' HOT STUFF
QPR have been away for a warm weather training trip to try and build some team spirit. Will this have the desired effect against the champions elect?
1' KICK OFF
Manchester United get the game underway.
0' ROONEY ON BENCH
Fergie, as expected, recalls van Persie to lead the attack alongside Javier Hernandez, with Rooney only fit enough for the bench. Nani keeps his place following a goalscoring FA Cup performance.
0' QPR TEAM
A couple of surprises for QPR with Jose Bosingwa making a return to the team, and Remy and Hoilett fit enough for the bench. Zamora starts, and Harry will be hoping his hip injury holds off and he can manage more than 45 minutes.
0' MAN UTD LINEUP
Man Utd: David De Gea, Rafael, Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick, Nani, Ashley Young, Javier Hernandez, Robin Van Persie. Subs: Jonny Evans, Antonio Valencia, Anderson, Wayne Rooney, Anders Lindegaard, Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley.
0' QPR LINEUP
The teams are in. QPR: Julio Cesar, Jose Bosingwa, Christopher Samba, Clint Hill, Armand Traore, Andros Townsend, Esteban Granero, Stephane Mbia, Jamie Mackie, Adel Taarabt, Bobby Zamora. Subs: Robert Green, Ji-Sung Park, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Nedum Onuoha, Jermaine Jenas, Loic Remy, Junior Hoilett.
0' BOTTOM VERSUS TOP
Loftus Road is the venue as the Premier League's basement boys welcome the league leaders in a match that means very different things to both sides. Harry Redknapp believes 37 points could be enough to save QPR this season; meaning 20 points from their last 12 games - perhaps optimistic considering they have plundered just 17 from the previous 26 matches. At the other end of the league Manchester United have the chance to open up a 15 point gap on local rivals, and closest challengers, Manchester City.
0' QPR TEAM NEWS
Loic Remy is still a doubt with a groin injury, but Bobby Zamora looks set to continue his comeback from a persistent hip injury. Johnson and Bosingwa are long term absentees, but Junior Hoilett is available after injury, and Samba Diakite is back from representing his country. Fabio could return to line up against his twin.
0' MAN UTD TEAM NEWS
Wayne Rooney scored in both fixtures last season, but looks set to miss out with a sinus problem. Hernandez or Welbeck are expected to deputise. Phil Jones is struggling with an injury picked up against Reading, and Scholes has also picked up a knock. Robin van Persie should return to the starting line-up after being rested in the FA Cup.
0' QPR FORM
Although QPR are fully rooted to the foot of the table, their form has improved recently – the mauling at Swansea was their first defeat in six, and they do have a run of winnable-looking fixtures approaching. Rangers have also put in some good performances against the teams at the top of the league, beating Chelsea, and shutting out both Man City and Tottenham.
0' MAN UTD FORM
Manchester United are unbeaten in 14 league games, conceding just 14 goals and taking 38 points from a possible 42. Only three clubs in top-flight history have had more points at this stage of the season – all of whom went on to win the league. Robin van Persie has scored 19 league goals this season – as many as the entire QPR squad.
0' HEAD TO HEAD
QPR have never beaten Manchester United in the Premier League, managing just two points from a possible 33. The last top flight home win for QPR was a 3-2 success in 1989. Goals from Hernandez, Evans and Fletcher cancelled out Jamie Mackie's opener in a 3-1 success for Alex Ferguson in November.
0' MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Anthony Taylor, from Manchester, will referee the game. The 35-year-old has issued 64 yellows and 6 reds in his 26 matches so far, and presided over Manchester United's last league loss at Norwich in November.
