Manchester City vs. Everton
Minute Commentary
90' FT: MAN CITY 3 EVERTON 1
City rebound from the midweek beating by Bayern Munich, coming from a goal down to end the last unbeaten record in the Premier League. Everton started well and grabbed the lead on 16 minutes, Romelu Lukaku shooting past Joe Hart. That advantage, though, lasted barely a minute, with Alvaro Negredo making no mistake after an incisive pass by Yaya Toure. There was little to choose between the sides in the first half, but City went into the interval in front thanks to a 45th-minute strike from Sergio Aguero, with David Silva supplying the assist. Everton were extremely disappointing after the break and there was only ever going to be one winner. City made sure of the points 20 minutes from time when the unlucky Tim Howard saved Aguero's penalty, but saw the ball end up in the net via a post and then his back.
90' NASRI DENIED A FOURTH
Toure puts in Nasri down the left and the Frenchman is denied a fourth for City by Howard's point-blank save.
90' TAME STRIKE BY KONE
Everton break swiftly with three in attack, but Kone's lame strike lacks venom and is more like a back-pass than a shot. Even Hart will save that.
90' STOPPAGE TIME
We are into four minutes of injury time.
90' MAN CITY BOOKING
It's hard to keep track of how many cautions we have seen this afternoon. Fernandinho is the latest man in the book, for a foul on Coleman.
88' EVERTON BOOKING
A cynical and tired trip from Naismith sends Toure flying and that is our latest caution.
86' GOOD FRONT-RUNNERS
In the whole of last season City threw away just seven points from winning positions. Manuel Pellegrini's men have already squandered six points this campaign, the worst record in the top flight.
83' NEGREDO DENIED A SECOND
Nasri finds Negredo, whose blast from a narrow angle is beaten away by Howard. Everton goalscorer Lukaku is replaced by Arouna Kone.
82' EVERTON YELLOW CARD
Coleman's foul challenge on Silva sees Mr Moss get his book out again. Another yellow card.
81' MAN CITY SUBSTITUTION
City's latest change sees Samir Nasri replace Aguero.
80' EASY SAVE FOR HART
Everton manufacture a half-chance from the free-kick, but Distin's save is comfortably dealt with by Hart.
78' MAN CITY BOOKING
Zabaleta trips Baines near the corner flag and that is yet another yellow card. He can have no complaints.
77' McCARTHY TO THE RESCUE
Negredo is almost in, but he cuts back into traffic and McCarthy makes a saving tackle.
74' MAN CITY BOOKING
Silva is booked for his third poor tackle of the match. If his name was Joey Barton he would have been sent off long ago.
73' POOR FROM NAISMITH
Coleman makes inroads into the City area and squares for Naismith, whose feebly under-hit shot hits Nastasic and rolls to safety. That was a really good chance.
72' TWO PLAYERS WERE BOOKED
Just to clear up those Everton protests, Distin and Howard were both booked for dissent after that penalty award.
70' GOAL: MAN CITY 3 EVERTON 1
The ball is in the net from the penalty. Howard turned Aguero's spot-kick on to the post, but it rebounded in off his back. Technically, that's an own goal.
69' CITY PENALTY
Pablo Zabaleta is hauled down by Seamus Coleman trying to latch on to a loose ball. It's a penalty. Distin is booked for complaining.
68' DISAPPOINTING EVERTON
Everton have been poor in this second half. City are fragile defensively at the moment, but the visitors have hardly created a threat.
66' TREATMENT FOR ZABALETA
Another injury. Zabaleta has taken a blow to the nose and needs treatment to stem the flow of blood.
63' DOUBLE SUBSTITUTION
It's a double switch by Everton. Darron Gibson and Gerard Deulofeu replace the disappointing Osman and Mirallas.
61' GIBSON GETTING READY
Darron Gibson is getting ready to come on for Everton.
59' MAN CITY SUBSTITUTION
Clichy is on for Kolarov, who has had a good game today. Clichy was responsible for one of the Bayern goals in midweek, so he has plenty to prove.
58' MORE TREATMENT NEEDED
Kolarov is going down the tunnel for further treatment. The cut is right near the eyelid and he's going to need stitches.
57' NASTY COLLISION
A collision between Nastasic and Kolarov sees both players injured. The full-back has a cut near his eye and goes off to get a fresh shirt. Naismith gets an assist there, he pushed one City player into another.
55' WAY WIDE FROM TOURE
Toure twists and turns and brings the ball back on to his weaker left foot for a shot. The effort ends up nearer the corner flag than its intended target.
53' NOT FAR AWAY
Barkley plays in Mirallas with a superb straight pass, but the Belgian's first touch just lets him down and Hart is able to save.
51' PRESSURE GROWS
Another slick City passing move opens up Everton's defence again, but Jagielka just does enough to put off Silva.
49' EVERTON HANGING ON
Not for the first time, Kolarov plays in an extremely dangerous cross into the area which is only lacking the final touch from a City striker. Milner then almost plays in Aguero.
47' GOALS, GOALS, GOALS
City have now netted in a club-record 54 consecutive matches in the Premier League since being held to a goalless draw by Birmingham City on Nov. 13, 2010.
46' HERE WE GO AGAIN
City get the second half under way.
45' HT: MAN CITY 2 EVERTON 1
City lead at the end of a pulsating first 45 minutes at the Etihad Stadium. Romelu Lukaku began where he left off against Newcastle, putting the visitors in front after 16 minutes after some hapless City defending. Joe Hart would have saved the Belgian striker's low shot on top form, but we know England's No. 1 is in a dark place at present. City were behind for just a minute, Yaya Toure' lovely pass opening up the Everton backline and Alvaro Negredo shooting under Tim Howard. Sergio Aguero was then only just wide after a wonderful free-kick routine, but made amends just before the break, shooting past Howard with David Silva supplying the assist.
45' MAN CITY BOOKING
Milner is cautioned for a reckless tackle on McCarthy. The half-time whistle blows.
45' GREAT TACKLE FROM JAGIELKA
Jagielka made a perfectly-timed tackle to deny Aguero what would have been a certain goal. Had he got that one wrong the visitors would have been down to ten men.
45' MORE ON THAT GOAL
The excellent Silva slid a ball down the inside-right channel and Aguero shot across Howard into the far corner. Negredo and Coleman squared up to each other in the build-up to that goal.
45' GOAL: MAN CITY 2 EVERTON 1
Sergio Aguero puts City ahead.
43' PENALTY CLAIMS
Nastasic barges Lukaku in the back as the pair chase a loose ball inside the City box. No penalty. You don't get those sort of decisions away from home at the big clubs.
40' BAD MISS FROM AGUERO
Negredo shows real commitment to rob Baines with a sliding tackle, but Aguero gets his feet all wrong and he slides to the turf with the goal at his mercy.
37' DANGEROUS CROSS
Kolarov whips over a wicked cross from the left but no City striker had made a run which would have left them from a tap-in. Silva trips Lukaku and why he does not receive a yellow card is beyond me.
35' CITY SUBSTITUTION
Here is the change. Kompany off, Nastasic on. It's hard to tell, but the Belgium defender may be out for several weeks. It seemed more than just an impact injury.
33' KOMPANY'S DAY IS OVER
Kompany calls for treatment. He looks resigned to the fact that his day is done.
32' KOMPANY CARRYING A KNOCK
Kompany seems to have a leg injury and Matija Nastasic is warming up on the sidelines for City.
30' CONFIDENCE BOOST FOR HART
Hart makes a wonderful save to keep out a Mirallas header, unaware that the flag was already up for offside.
27' AGUERO A WHISKER AWAY
City should be in front after a brilliantly-worked free-kick. Silva puts Aguero in, but his shot is a whisker beyond the far post. What a goal that would have been.
24' MIRALLAS MISSES THE MARK
Mirallas is capable of brilliance, but not on his occasion. His long-range effort is well wide of the target. Everton should try and test Hart's brittle confidence as often as they can.
23' MAN CITY BOOKING
Kompany's poorly-timed tackle on Lukaku earns him the first yellow card of the match.
22' OFF THE POST
Milner's cross from the right deflects off McCarthy, which totally wrong-foots Tim Howard. The USA stopper is relieved to see the ball rebound off the outside of the post.
21' HAPPY HUNTING GROUND
Joe Hart's got enough to think about at the moment, but City have now kept just one clean sheet in their last 16 games against Everton. That was in the 2-0 home win in September 2011.
18' MORE ON THAT GOAL
City respond immediately. Toure slides a pass inside the full-back and Negredo runs round the outside before shooting under Hart. The home side are level only 94 seconds after falling behind.
17' GOAL: MAN CITY 1 EVERTON 1
Alvaro Negredo levels for City.
16' MORE ON THAT GOAL
It's a disaster for City. Lescott pushed up looking for offside, Kompany stayed out, and Lukaku was alert to collect a long pass from the back. The striker then cut inside the hapless Lescott and steered a shot under Hart, who might have done better.
16' GOAL: MAN CITY 0 EVERTON 1
Romelu Lukaku nets for Everton.
14' GOOD BLOCK BY OSMAN
A wonderful quick passing move by City ends with Milner seeing his low shot blocked by the left foot of Osman. The home side are just on top at the moment.
12' KOLAROV HEADS OVER
Toure turns past Osman and feeds Kolarov, who wins City a corner on the left. Silva delivers to the near post and Kolarov thumps a header over the bar after escaping his marker.
9' SETTING HIGH STANDARDS
Everton may be unbeaten, but they are actually a point worse off than at the same stage last season.
7' INCHES AWAY
Osman is harshly penalised 25 yards from goal and City have a free-kick to the right of goal. Kolarov's curler is over the wall and into the side-netting.
5' FINE SAVE BY HOWARD
City create the first chance. Jagielka is unable to gain possession on the edge of his own box and Toure's curler is turned round the post by Howard. That was a good stop, because the ball bounced just in front of him.
4' SOLID AT THE BACK
Silva is looking lively in the early stages, but his progress is halted by Distin, who has been outstanding for Everton this season.
3' SHORT OF CONFIDENCE?
Bad news for home fans. Joe Hart conceded penalties to all four of City's mascots in the pre-match build-up. He might not have been trying, mind you.
2' EARLY TOUCH FOR HART
Everton are almost in right from kick-off, but Lescott just manages to get his body in the way of the marauding Lukaku and Hart is out to save.
1' HERE WE GO
Everton kick off, attacking the goal to our left.

0' TEAM NEWS
Joe Hart keeps his place in goal despite those blunders in midweek. City make three changes to the side that were beaten last weekend at Villa, with Lescott, Silva and Aguero replacing Nastasic, Nasri and Dzeko. Gareth Barry cannot face his parent club, so Steven Naismith comes into the Everton midfield, the only change to the side that beat Newcastle.
0' PREVIEW
Manchester City will look to put their Champions League humiliation behind them on Saturday when they welcome Everton to the Etihad Stadium in the Premier League. City may ultimately have only lost Wednesday's clash with Bayern Munich by a two-goal margin, but there was a chasm beyond the teams and so badly were they outclassed that the home fans who were left in the ground at the final whistle actually applauded the European club champions off the pitch. Coming as that reverse did on the back of a shock 3-2 defeat at Villa Park last weekend, City have only their home form in the league to cling to as some form of comfort. It's played three, won three, with ten goals scored at home, though Everton will look to dent that record as they come to Manchester boasting the top flight's last unbeaten record. Toffees boss Roberto Martinez knows his side must be wary of a City backlash after what happened in midweek. “You feel like they will want to respond and get back to winning ways so that's why we will need to be perfect in many ways,” he told the official Everton website. “We need to be prepared for a real reaction from Manchester City.” Today's game kicks off at 1245BST, so join us around 30 minutes beforehand when we should have the confirmed team news, which will be followed by a match commentary.
0' PLAYERS TO WATCH
David Silva played his first game in a month on Wednesday, coming on as a substitute in the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich. City need the Spaniard to return to his best as quickly as possible and the same could be said of Sergio Aguero, who looked a little off the pace after himself returning from two weeks on the sidelines. The fall guy this week has been goalkeeper Joe Hart, who was responsible for two of Bayern's goals. Will manager Manuel Pellegrini withdraw him from the firing line and if not, how will he react? Ross Barkley has made an impressive start to Everton's campaign, but their main dangerman is on-loan striker Romelu Lukaku, who has scored three goals in two games, including two in his last outing at home to Newcastle. The Belgian has 20 Premier League goals since the start of last season for West Brom and Everton. Fernando Torres, the first choice at Lukaku's parent club Chelsea, has eight. In 2013, it's even more shocking - Lukaku has 14 league goals, Torres one, Demba Ba two and Samuel Eto'o five, though all of his came in the Russian Premier League.
0' HEAD TO HEAD
Everton have the better head-to-head record in league meetings between the sides with 61 wins to 59 by City and 40 games being drawn. At the Etihad and Maine Road before it, City have 43 wins to 19 by Everton, with a further 18 meetings ending up all square. The corresponding match last season on Dec. 1 finished in a 1-1 draw, Marouane Fellaini giving Everton the lead on 33 minutes and Carlos Tevez levelling with a penalty just before half-time. Everton won the return at Goodison on Mar. 16 2-0, despite having Steven Pienaar sent off just after the hour for his second bookable offence. Leon Osman had given the Toffees a 32nd-minute lead with a stunning strike and Nikica Jelavic sealed the points with a second in the last minute.
0' FORM GUIDE
City start the day in seventh place with 10 points from six games, two points and three places behind Everton. City are the only side in the Premier League to still boast a 100 per cent record at home in the league, scoring 10 times and conceding a lone goal to Manchester United. Everton, as already mentioned, are the last unbeaten side in the Premier League, with three wins and three draws from their six outings.
0' EARLY TEAM NEWS
City will be without Jack Rodwell, who is back in training after injury but will not be risked against his former club. Martin Demichelis (knee) is also out. Everton's on-loan midfielder Gareth Barry is ineligible to face his parent club. Darron Gibson could deputise if he is fully recovered from a knee injury. Kevin Mirallas (ankle) will have a late fitness test and Steven Pienaar (hamstring) and Antolin Alcaraz (hernia) remain out.
0' MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Taking charge of today's game is Jon Moss, who was appointed to the select group of referees in June 2011. Born in Sunderland, but now living in Leeds, Moss has shown seven yellow cards in his three Premier League appointments to date and controversially sent off one player, Crystal Palace midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi in the defeat at Old Trafford after, how shall we put this, Ashley Young went to ground rather too easily. Moss's only red card last term also caused some consternation, then Everton manager David Moyes being agitated by the decision to dismiss Steven Pienaar at Queens Park Rangers. The referee's assistants today are John Brooks and Lee Betts, while Martin Atkinson is the fourth official.
