West Ham United vs. Chelsea
Minute Commentary
90' FT: WEST HAM 0 CHELSEA 3
Frank Lampard comes back to Upton Park and thrusts the dagger into the hearts of diehard West Ham fans yet again with two goals against his former club. The England midfielder opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 21 minutes after Oscar had been felled by Jussi Jaaskelainen and netted the killer third eight minutes from time with a clinical finish. In between, the outstanding Oscar also found the target with a low shot from the edge of the box. The win takes Chelsea third, level on points with second-placed Liverpool. West Ham have a crucial ten days coming up with matches against relegation rivals Fulham and Crystal Palace on the horizon.
90' INTO STOPPAGE TIME
There will be three minutes of added time.
88' AS BAD AS IT GETS
It has been a dispiriting evening for West Ham fans, that's for sure. How can you tell? You can hardly hear the boos now every time Frank Lampard touches the ball.
85' CHELSEA SUBSTITUTION
Chelsea's final switch sees Hazard replaced by Michael Essien.
83' CHELSEA SUBSTITUTION
The excellent Oscar is taken off as a precaution. On comes Andre Schurrle.
83' GOAL DETAILS
Ivanovic crossed from the right, Hazard's initial shot was blocked, but it came out to Lampard, who smashed the follow-up beyond Jaaskelainen. West Ham fans head for the exits.
82' GOAL: WEST HAM 0 CHELSEA 3
Frank Lampard nets his second and Chelsea's third. Game over.
79' CHELSEA SUBSTITUTION
Chelsea make a switch, with Eto'o being replaced by Demba Ba.
78' INJURY UPDATE
Oscar kicked Diame, and has an injury to the top of his foot. JT has got back to his feet and seems fine.
78' CHELSEA INJURIES
Two Chelsea players are down injured, John Terry and Oscar. The Brazilian looks the one most in need of treatment.
76' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
West Ham make their final change. It's Matt Jarvis taking the place of Kevin Nolan. The fans appear pleased their captain has been taken off.
73' BRAVE DEFENDING
Cahill makes a diving headed interception to prevent a Maiga cross reaching the head of Nolan. He lands awkwardly, but gets to his feet after initially looking like he might have been injured.
70' PLENTY IN RESERVE
Sam Allardyce cannot afford a glance over at the Chelsea bench or his heart would probably sink. There he would see not just Willian, but Ashley Cole, Michael Essien, Juan Mata, Andre Schurrle and Demba Ba as well. An embarrassment of riches indeed.
67' POOR TOUCH FROM ETO'O
Hazard's through ball looks to have put Eto'o in on goal, but the first touch from the former Barca man is uncharacteristically heavy and the ball runs through to the goalkeeper.
66' BAD MISS BY MAIGA
Demel does superbly to beat three players down the right. He picks out the perfect pass for Maiga, who misses the target from eight yards. That could have changed the whole outlook of the game.
63' NOT FAR AWAY
Eto'o is playing with confidence at the moment and his 25-yard curler just dips too late. It's a fraction wide of the post.
61' AMBITIOUS ATTEMPT
Diame collects the ball on the left and his shot ricochets towards the penalty spot where Maiga attempts an audacious overhead kick that goes well wide.
58' OSCAR CLOSE TO A SECOND
A West Ham move breaks down and Chelsea are down the other end in a flash. Oscar gets on the end of a cross from the left and steers a shot wide, which is about the first time he has put a foot wrong all evening.
56' LAMPARD WANTS MORE
Lampard is on the end of a slick Chelsea move and sees his low shot force Jaaskelainen into a save diving to his left.
53' CLEARED OFF THE LINE
Oscar collects the ball in space inside the area and frees Eto'o on the overlap. His cross-shot is cleared for a corner. From the set-piece, Cahill's downward header is cleared off the line by Noble.
51' LACKING IN QUALITY
Diame has got in some good positions early in this second half, but the end product has been sadly lacking.
49' GREAT CROSS BY DOWNING
Downing whips in an excellent cross from the left that is just over the head of Maiga. That caused Cech some discomfort in the Chelsea goal.
48' GOING FOR A THIRD
Chelsea are going for the jugular here and only a timely intervention from Collins prevents Lampard being left with a tap-in.
46' HERE WE GO AGAIN
Chelsea get the second half under way.
45' HT: WEST HAM 0 CHELSEA 2
Chelsea go in at the interval two goals to the good and cruising towards victory. After a dreadful first quarter Guy Demel's mistake led to Jussi Jaaskelainen conceding a penalty from which Frank Lampard scored. Oscar, who had been fouled for the spot-kick, added the second himself with a neat finish from the edge of the box. West Ham netted three goals in the second half to turn this fixture around last season. It's difficult to see that happening today.
44' ALERT DEFENDING
Morrison looks like he might have got clear for the home side, but Azpilicueta is alert to the danger and snuffs out the threat.
43' GOOD SAVE DENIES ETO'O
Eto'o almost adds a third with a right-foot curler, but Jaaskelainen claws the effort round the post.
41' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
Here is that West Ham switch. Off go Joe Cole and Jack Collison, on come Mohamed Diame and Modibo Maiga.
38' NIGHTMARE SCENARIO
Ask any West Ham fan about their nightmare scenario for this game and it's just about coming true in what we have seen so far. Their side toothless in attack and trailing, with Lampard on the scoresheet for the visitors. Could it be any worse?
35' GOAL DETAILS
Terry played a low ball out from the back, Hazard's neat first-time flick found Oscar in space and the little Brazilian carried the ball to the edge of the box. There was not much venom behind his low shot, but it was perfectly placed just inside the left-hand upright.
34' GOAL: WEST HAM 0 CHELSEA 2
Oscar doubles Chelsea's lead.
33' IN NEED OF A SPARK
West Ham need a spark of inspiration here. Something like this piece of genius produced by Ravel Morrison in England Under-21 training last week: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hONKlo6HGWM
31' LAMPARD HEADS WIDE
Hazard switches wings and collects the ball on the right. He crosses for the head of Lampard, who nods wide from about 14 yards.
28' YELLOW CARD AT WORST
Looking at the replay again, it certainly wasn't a sending-off for Jaaskelainen. The ball was heading towards the touchline and therefore in no way did he deny a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
26' CHANGES IN THE OFFING
West Ham are looking to make a double substitution here, they have been that poor.
26' LAMPARD DENIED A SECOND
Lampard gets in another shot, but his scuffed effort following a cross from the right is easily saved.
24' LUCKY STILL TO HAVE 11
You have to wonder how and why Mr Foy chose not to show a card of any colour to Jaaskelainen. Perhaps Oscar would not have got to the ball, but it was a caution at the very least.
23' DEMEL AT FAULT
The blame for that goal wasn't Jaaskelainen's, it was Guy Demel's. He tried to divert the ball back to his goalkeeper with his thigh, but undercooked the effort. Oscar nipped in and was brought down when he tried to round the goalie.
22' GOAL: WEST HAM 0 CHELSEA 1
Frank Lampard blasts the penalty past Jaaskelainen to open the scoring against his former club.
21' CHELSEA PENALTY
Chelsea have a penalty after a foul by Jussi Jaaskelainen.
20' HAMMERS EFFORTS BLOCKED
West Ham mount their first threat of the match. Downing crosses from the left but Cole's header and Nolan's shot are both blocked by Chelsea defenders.
17' OSCAR WELL OFF TARGET
West Ham give the ball away carelessly in their own half, but Oscar's shot aimed for the far corner clears the bar by a distance.
14' FINAL PASS LACKING
A poor ball by Collins sets up a Chelsea attack, but Hazard dithers too long on the ball and his attempted pass to Eto'o is cut out. West Ham break from the corner, but Morrison chooses the wrong option and the move fizzles out.
12' GOOD WORK FROM MORRISON
Morrison has won many plaudits for his attacking play this season, but there's a side of his game I wasn't aware he had as the England Under-21 midfielder tracks Ramires back and makes an excellent covering tackle.
10' SHORT IN ATTACK
O'Brien plays a magnificent ball down the left touchline to Downing. The winger looks up, but there is nobody in the middle, so he has to check back inside. That's West Ham's problem in a nutshell with no recognised striker.
8' PLENTY TO PLAY FOR
Chelsea are now seven points behind Arsenal, who beat Southampton 2-0 at the Emirates. A point would take them above Saints into third and a win by four clear goals into second above Liverpool.
6' COLLINS DOES HIS JOB
Chelsea are the first to mount a threat but Collins cuts out a Hazard cross intended for Eto'o.
4' CHELSEA IN WHITE
West Ham are in their traditional claret and blue shirts this evening. Chelsea are in their change strip of white shirts and blue shorts.
2' IN NEED OF A WIN
It's been a mixed day for West Ham so far in terms of results elsewhere. Fulham were beaten again, but there were wins for Stoke and Crystal Palace. It's a crucial couple of weeks for the Hammers, who host Fulham next weekend before a midweek trip to Selhurst Park.
1' HERE WE GO
West Ham kick off, attacking the goal to our left.
0' TEAM NEWS
Razvan Rat is ruled out for West Ham, so Joey O'Brien takes his place in defence. Cesar Azpilicueta remains at left-back for Chelsea with Ashley Cole, who has been struggling with a knock, again among the substitutes. Jose Mourinho's one change sees John Obi Mikel brought in and Willian dropped to the bench.

0' PREVIEW
West Ham welcome Chelsea to Upton Park for a tasty London derby and would be well advised to look back 12 months to the corresponding match last season for inspiration. Last December the Hammers arguably turned in their best 45 minutes of the whole campaign to turn a one-goal half-time deficit into a 3-1 win over the Blues. It didn't exactly kickstart their campaign - it was one of just two wins in a 13-match stretch - but instilled the belief that were worthy of their place in the top flight and on their day could compete with the very best in the division. Last season West Ham collected 33 of their 46 points at Upton Park. This year have the joint-worst home record in the Premier League and have to reverse that trend quickly or find themselves in a relegation dogfight. Jose Mourinho may have publicly criticised referees' chief Mike Riley yesterday, but without being the beneficiary of a hugely questionable decision at home to West Brom a fortnight ago, we would be talking about coming into this match on the back of successive defeats. The results in themselves have not been good, but more worrying still have been the performances, which have seen a lacklustre Chelsea outplayed by teams who will likely finish no better than mid-table. Today's game kicks off at 1730GMT, so join us around 30 minutes beforehand when we should have the confirmed team news, which will be followed by a match commentary.
0' PLAYERS TO WATCH
West Ham fans have long memories, and you can expect former midfielder Frank Lampard to be booed on his return to Upton Park despite it being more than 12 years since he made an £11 million switch to Chelsea. The England midfielder has netted in three of his last four Premier League appearances against the Hammers. But he has failed to score in 10 successive league games - his longest run without a goal in the Premier League since 2003. Chelsea's leading scorers in the league this season are Lampard's midfield cohorts, Eden Hazard and Oscar, who both have netted four times.
0' HEAD TO HEAD
Chelsea just have the edge in head-to-head league meetings between the sides with 36 wins to 35 by West Ham and 17 games being drawn. At Upton Park, West Ham have 23 wins to 13 by Chelsea, with a further eight meetings ending up all square. The corresponding match last season on Dec. 1 saw West Ham come from a goal down to win 3-1. Juan Mata had given the visitors a 13th-minute lead, but the Hammers roared back in the second half with goals from Carlton Cole (63 mins), Mohamed Diame (86) and Modibo Maiga (90). Chelsea got their revenge in the return on Mar. 17, winning 2-0 with goals from Frank Lampard (19 mins) and Eden Hazard (50).
0' FORM GUIDE
West Ham start the day in 16th place with 10 points from 11 games, above Stoke City and Fulham (the Cottagers sit in the relegation zone) on goal difference alone. West Ham have not won at Upton Park since they defeated Cardiff City on the opening day of the season. Their only other win was a spectacular 3-0 victory at Tottenham, but those fond memories are fading fast with two defeats and two goalless draws since. Last time out West Ham were beaten 3-1 by a Norwich side who went into the game on a bad run of their own. Chelsea drew 2-2 with West Bromwich Albion in their last outing before the international break, Jose Mourinho's unbeaten home league record as Blues boss only being preserved by a very poor penalty decision made by referee Andre Marriner in the final minute. Chelsea have collected just one point from their last two outings and enter Saturday's play fourth on 21 points, four points behind leaders Arsenal.
0' EARLY TEAM NEWS
West Ham are likely to be without Winston Reid for some time after it was revealed this week the defender had undergone surgery on the ankle he damaged recently. Razvan Rat (hamstring) is rated as doubtful, but Joey O'Brien and James Collins are expected to be fit. Chelsea have a doubt over Ashley Cole, who aggravated a rib injury while playing for England against Germany on Tuesday. Fernando Torres is back in training following an adductor injury sustained in training at the start of the month, but is not yet ready to return.
0' MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Taking charge of today's game is Chris Foy, who has been on the select list of referees since 2001. The Merseyside official has shown 18 yellow cards in his six Premier League matches to date this season. His dismissal of Mikel Arteta in Arsenal's win at Crystal Palace last month was not only his first of the season, but the first in his last 38 top-flight outings, which equates to a whole season of Premier League football. He did, however, send off Chelsea's Eden Hazard in the Capital One Cup tie at Swansea in January. Foy's assistants today are Gary Beswick and Mick McDonough, while Lee Mason is the fourth official.
