Arsenal vs. Everton
Minute Commentary
90' STUNNING GAME
For a neutral, this game was fantastic. Two attacking teams giving it their all in search of victory. The first half was a feast of football, with Everton dominating from the first whistle, but Arsenal looked more likely to make their chances pay. The second half continued in the same vein, with both sides pressing forward, but it wasn't until the final stages that the game really sprang to life. Firstly Tomas Rosicky found fellow substitute Theo Walcott with a cross-field ball, which Walcott nodded down into the path of Mesut Ozil who poked home. However, Everton responded through a superb goal from their own sub Gerard Deulofeu, who beat two mean before lashing past Wojciech Szczesny. Olivier Giroud struck the bar with almost the last kick of the game, but both sides will be happy with a point here. Arsenal 1 - 1 Everton.
90' FULL TIME
Howard Webb ends the game, and what a game. Arsenal 1 - 1 Everton.
90' OFF THE BAR!!!
So close! Olivier Giroud brings the ball down, takes a touch, and crashes an effort off the bar from 25 yards with Tim Howard beaten. What an effort.
90' SUBSTITUTION
Steven Naismith replaces Ross Barkley.
90' POWERFUL RUN
Romelu Lukaku picks up the ball in midfield, and instead of passing he surges forward, cuts inside and curls a shot just over the bar.
90' SO CLOSE!
Sylvain Distin and Tim Howard get in a muddle when chasing a long ball, and Mathieu Flamini looks all set to tuck the ball home. However Phil Jagielka comes out of nowhere to knock the ball off of his toes.
89' BOOKING
Gerard Deulofeu is booked for a crude challenge in midfield.
87' RUNNING OUT OF TIME
Is there a winner in this? It still looks as if it could swing either way. Both sides have played superbly here.
84' WHAT A TALENT!!!
Wow. Superb goal. Ross Barkley powers forward once more and feeds Bryan Oviedo on the left, who crosses into the box. Romelu Lukaku misses an overhead kick but the ball falls to substitute Gerard Deulofeu, who takes two touches before lashing a fierce shot over Wojciech Szczesny. Arsenal 1 - 1 Everton.
84' GOOOOOAAAAALLLL
WHAT A REPLY FROM EVERTON!!!
80' DEADLOCK BROKEN
Well well well, the home side finally have the lead. Tomas Rosicky waits for options and finally floats a ball in from the left. Theo Walcott heads it back across goal and Olivier Giroud looks all set to bury it, but the Frenchman misses the ball. Fortunately for him, and for Arsenal, Mesut Ozil is following up to poke the ball home. Arsenal 1 - 0 Everton.
80' GOOOOOAAAALLLL
ARSENAL TAKE THE LEAD!!!!
79' EVERTON CHANGE
Kevin Mirallas leaves the field, with Gerard Deulofeu taking his place. Can the on-loan Barcelona man do something?
78' SIDE NETTING ONLY
So close! Kevin Mirallas runs on to a through ball and fires a shot goalwards. It beats Wojciech Szczesny but also beats the post, hitting the side netting.
77' BOOKING
Tim Howard is shown a yellow card for timewasting. A strange one, that.
76' IMMINENT ARRIVAL
Gerard Deulofeu is coming off the bench. Can he produce a winner?
72' SO CLOSE!
A lovely Arsenal move nearly gives them the lead. Carl Jenkinson breaks down the right and chips a cross into the area, which is kept in play by Tomas Rosicky. He plays it to Olivier Giroud who flicks it back to Mathieu Flamini, and his driven effort rolls past the post.
70' EVERTON SUB
Steven Pienaar leaves the field, with Leon Osman taking his place.
69' OVER THE TOP
Kieran Gibbs whips in a lovely cross from the left and Olivier Giroud is there to meet it. Unfortunately the Frenchman gets underneath it and sends the ball well over the bar.
67' TRIPLE ARSENAL CHANGE
A brave move here by Arsene Wenger, as Mathieu Flamini, Theo Walcott and Tomas Rosicky replace Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere.
65' TIRING
Everton's players, who put in such a hard shift against Manchester United in midweek, are starting to look tired. Is this where Arsenal's squad rotation might pay off?
61' BOOKING
James McCarthy is booked for a high challenge on Aaron Ramsey. That is McCarthy's fifth booking of the season and he will now miss Everton's game with Fulham.
60' HARD WORKING
Seamus Coleman is working very hard today up and down the right flank. This time he gets on to the end of a lovely ball from Kevin Mirallas, but his cross is poor and Arsenal are able to clear.
56' LOVELY
We are getting closer to a breakthrough here. Kieran Gibbs has time to turn and cross in the box, and his high ball is acrobatically volleyed goalwards by Aaron Ramsey. Tim Howard beats it out for a corner and it comes to nothing.
54' PALM STINGER
Everton finally have a shot on target, but Wojciech Szczesny easily beats Steven Pienaar's effort away.
51' GOOD RUNNING
James McCarthy busts a gut here. He is the furthest man forward and nearly finds a way through following a Ross Barkley chipped pass, but then races back to make the challenge on Santi Cazorla after Arsenal regained possession.
48' LOOKING LIKE THE HOME SIDE
Arsenal have had the better start in this second period, mainly by flooding the Everton box with players. The Gunners want an early goal, you can tell.
46' KICK OFF
We are back underway in North London. No change from either manager.
45' ONE FOR THE NEUTRALS
Despite no goals as of yet, this has been a fantastic half of football. Both sides have come out to attack but Everton were the dominant team for long spells. Arsenal slowly worked their way back into it and forced Tim Howard into some decent saves towards the end of the half. Personal battles are springing up all over the field, with Romelu Lukaku and Laurent Koscielny one to keep an eye on. Let's hope for an even better second period. Arsenal 0 - 0 Everton.
45' HALF TIME
Howard Webb ends the half. Arsenal 0 - 0 Everton.
45' PRESSURE
Arsenal have come to life in the last couple of minutes and Tim Howard has been forced into a couple of very good saves, first from Olivier Giroud and then from Aaron Ramsey. Good stuff from the American.
43' BOOKING
Gareth Barry is the first man in the book, seemingly for persistent fouling.
41' SCRAPPY
Challenges are flying in thick and fast. Sometimes they can be to the detriment of a game - not in this case. The fans are enjoying it and the noise levels inside the Emirates have risen sharply.
38' LOVELY PLAY
Seamus Coleman gets on the end of a chipped through ball from Steven Pienaar. His cut-back is good, but Laurent Koscielny stretches to clear the danger. Great team play there by Everton.
36' WORRY
Aaron Ramsey is in some pain down by the touchline and Howard Webb jogs over to check on him. He indicates he is happy to continue but is still not moving easily.
34' KNIFE THROUGH BUTTER
Everton are blowing Arsenal away here. Once again Ross Barkley is the main man, powering forward from midfield before slipping the ball into the box. Unfortunately Romelu Lukaku starts his run a second too late and the ball rolls out of play.
31' ISOLATED
Both Olivier Giroud and Romelu Lukaku, as lone front-men, can look isolated at times. This time Lukaku runs into the right channel to pick up the ball, but has no support and his shot cannons back off of Laurent Koscielny and into play.
28' POOR
Everton win a free kick on the left win. Kevin Mirallas steps up to curl it in, but Wojciech Szczesny gathers with ease. There were plenty of players Mirallas could have aimed for there.
27' VERY CLOSE
Arsenal have their first attack of real merit. Mesut Ozil breaks away down the right and crosses in low, and Kieran Gibbs is inches away from poking it home.
25' NICE TRY
Seamus Coleman gets a bit unlucky here. He cuts in from the right and attempts the cross, which cannons back off Kieran Gibbs and hits him on the arm. The appeals for handball appear to put the Irishman off and he lashes a shot over the bar.
22' SELFISH
Kevin Mirallas tries a shot from the left hand side of the area which sails over the top. Wasteful, really, as he had Romelu Lukaku arriving in the middle of the box.
19' SMOOTH PASSING
The ball is being played around in the middle of the park here, but it has been a few minutes since either side have made a threatening attacking move. Let's hope that changes soon.
17' FIGHTING BACK
As expected, Arsenal are working their way back into this tie, slowly but surely. Gareth Barry and James McCarthy could be key men today, needing to stifle Arsenal's attacking threat.
15' HANDBAGS
Kevin Mirallas and Jack Wilshere have a brief scrap down on the left hand side, but it quickly resolves itself.
12' CHANCE
Poor defending from Mesut Ozil almost gives Everton a way through here. Kevin Mirallas floats in a corner from the right, Mesut Ozil jumps but completely misses it, but unfortunately for Everton fans, Sylvain Distin is the man waiting and his volley sails well wide.
10' PRESSING
Arsenal haven't woken up yet, as it is Everton who are pressing forward with some intent. Steven Pienaar and Bryan Oviedo are combining well down the left flank, making Carl Jenkinson look rather exposed.
7' END TO END
This is an enthralling game of football to watch so far. Both sides have a reputation for good attacking football this season, and have set up with very similar 4-2-3-1 formations.
5' CLOSE
Barkley surges forward and slips the ball into Kevin Mirallas, who is in acres of space down the right flank. The Belgian sends in a low cross aimed at Romelu Lukaku, but it falls just behind the big striker.
4' CONTROL
Everton are the attacking force in the early going here. Ross Barkley, as he has proved so adept at doing this season, is a focal point for all of their attacking moves. Arsenal are holding firm.
1' MARKED MAN
Bryan Oviedo, Everton's midweek hero, could find himself in for some abuse over the rest of the season. Oviedo is Costa Rican, and should line up against England in the World Cup next summer.
1' KICK OFF
Everton, in their all-blue kit, start the game kicking from right to left.
0' MAN IN THE MIDDLE
England's top referee Howard Webb is the man in the middle for this tie. The Yorkshireman has refereed 17 games this season, showing 50 yellow cards but no reds. He has officiated both of these teams once already this season, showing Arsenal two yellow cards and none to Everton.
0' BREAKING EVERTON TEAM NEWS
After their midweek win over Manchester United, Roberto Martinez has left his Everton side unchanged. Bryan Oviedo continues at left-back with Leighton Baines still missing, whilst Romelu Lukaku has been in a rich vein of form up front.
0' BREAKING ARSENAL TEAM NEWS
Arsene Wenger makes several changes after rotating his side in midweek. Kieran Gibbs returns in defence with Nacho Monreal dropping to the bench, whilst Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere take the holding midfield places from Mathieu Flamini and Tomas Rosicky. Olivier Giroud returns up front in place of Nicklas Bendtner.
0' PREVIEW
Hello and welcome to today's game between Arsenal and Everton. A crucial match for both sides, an Arsenal win today would see them seven points clear at the top of the table whilst an Everton victory would see them into the top four.
