Minute Commentary
90' ETO'O HAT-TRICK SINKS UNITED
A Samuel Eto'o hat-trick helped Jose Mourinho record his 100th Premier League victory against 10-man Manchester United with a 3-1 victory at Stamford Bridge. The Cameroon striker's last match against United was the 2009 Champions League Final in which he scored and he was in the mood from the start, breaking the deadlock after 17 minutes. The striker cut inside Phil Jones before seeing his curling effort take a deflection off Michael Carrick which took it beyond David De Gea. United were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal in first-half stoppage time and it was Eto'o on target again. Ramires found Gary Cahill in space inside the United box and the defender picked out the frontman to score. The former Barcelona striker became the first Blues player to score a hat-trick against United since Seamus O'Connell in October 1954 when he gobbled up Cahill's close-range header which was parried out by De Gea. It was also his sixth top flight goal of the season. United pulled a goal back late on when Phil Jones effort was turned into the back of the net by substitute Javier Hernandez. The Mexico international has now scored in seven of his last 10 appearances in all competitions against Chelsea. Just as the visitors look to set-up a grandstand finish captain Nemanja Vidic was shown a straight red card by referee Phil Dowd for hacking down Eden Hazard. Chelsea move to within two points of the top of the table while United remain in seventh spot - a massive 14 points behind leaders Arsenal.
90' FULL-TIME
Rafael flies into Gary Cahill and is lucky not to be shown a red. He receives a yellow instead but is a lucky boy! Chelsea defeat Manchester United 3-1 at Stamford Bridge thanks to a hat-trick from Samuel Eto'o.
90' NOISY BRIDGE
Nemanja Vidic will receive a three-game ban after that red card which was born out of pure frustration. The noise picks up at Stamford Bridge as we near full-time.
90' RED CARD VIDIC
Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic is shown a straight red card by referee Phil Dowd for hacking down Eden Hazard from behind.
90' STOPPAGE TIME
We're into FOUR added minutes of stoppage time at Stamford Bridge.
89' EASY SAVE
Chris Smalling's header finds Javier Hernandez but he is unable to get enough power into his effort at goal and Petr Cech hangs on.
87' MATIC MAKES HIS ENTRANCE
The £21 million signing from Benfica - Nemanja Matic, makes his Chelsea return. He comes on for the hard-working Willian for these final few minutes.
84' FABULOUS PASS
Javier Hernandez finds Chris Smalling with an outstanding pass, but the defender's cross only falls to Gary Cahill, who clears away.
82' UNITED PRESSING
Another goal for David Moyes' men would give this game a grandstand finish. They're getting the ball into the area at every opportunity now with time running out.
80' ETO'O COMES OFF
Hat-trick hero Samuel Eto'o receives a standing ovation as he is replaced by Fernando Torres.
78' CHICARITO NETS FOR UNITED
Manchester United pull a deserved goal back after good work down the right by Danny Welbeck. He finds Phil Jones in space and his effort towards goal is turned into the back of the net by substitute Javier Hernande. The Mexico striker has now scored in seven of his last 10 appearances in all competitions against Chelsea.
78' GOOOAAALLL!!!
JAVIER HERNANDEZ
76' DISCIPLINED DEFENCE
United have only managed to shut Chelsea out in just one of their last 12 Premier League matches at Stamford Bridge now, a scoreless draw in 2007. They look a beaten side as the Blues keep their discipline in defence.
73' HEAD IN HIS HANDS TIME
Petr Cech is very nearly caught out by Javier Hernandez, who was looking to close him down but the Czech goalkeeper manages to give him the slip. Jose Mourinho is not a happy manager after watching that and has his head in his hands in pure disbelief.
70' ALMOST A CALAMITY
Gary Cahill smacks the ball straight at Ramires and the ball rebounds back towards the Chelsea goal which has Petr Cech scrambling back. The resulting corner is headed just wide by Danny Welbeck.
68' DEFENSIVE CHANGE
Jose Mourinho sends on John Obi Mikel for Oscar. He will most likely sit in midfield and close this game out.
66' DEADLY HAZARD
Eden Hazard cuts onto this left-hand side drifting past Chris Smalling and Nemanja Vidic before seeing his deflected effort fly away for a corner.
64' EASILY HELD
Willian picks up the ball in a pocket in front of Rafael before lashing his effort towards goal, but David De Gea hangs on.
62' EXCELLENT CROSS
Javier Hernandez's lovely cross goes right across the face of goal with nobody attacking the ball. Rafael's effort is blocked by Gary Cahill and the Blues happily keep possession.
59' THUMPED OVER
Javier Hernandez has scored in six of his last nine appearances in all competitions against Chelsea, so he will fancy his chances of scoring in the remaining minutes this afternoon. Meanwhile, Ramires thumps his right-foot shot well over the crossbar.
57' HERNANDEZ COMES ON
Javier Hernandez is sent on to the field by David Moyes with Ashley Young coming off in his place. Looks like the United boss has switched to a 4-2-4 formation.
54' VALENCIA BOOKED
Antonio Valencia is shown a yellow card by referee Phil Dowd for hacking down Cesar Azpilicueta.
52' UNITED CHANGE
Chris Smalling has come on for the injured Patrice Evra. Things are not looking good for United now after that Samuel Eto'o goal early in this second-half.
49' HAT-TRICK FOR ETO'O
October 1954 was the last hat-trick scored by a Chelsea player against United. His name was Seamus O'Connell. Today, it's Samuel Eto'o who bags his first Blues hat-trick and what a side to do it against! Willian's corner is headed towards goal by Gary Cahill and although David De Gea makes the initial stop, Eto'o is on hand to bury the rebound.
49' GOOOAAALLL!!!
SAMUEL ETO'O
49' CORNER TO CHELSEA
Ashley Young's delivery leaves a lot to be desired though and Chelsea build from the back again. Samuel Eto'o looks to beat Nemanja Vidic at the near post, but the defender clears for a corner.
48' UNITED FREE-KICK
United have won three straight Premier League away matches and are unbeaten in seven in a row away from home, winning five and drawing two since a 4-1 loss at Manchester City in September, and after a positive first-half showing, they will look to try and score an early goal this half to give themselves hope. Adnan Januzaj wins his side an early free-kick wide left.
46' HERE WE GO AGAIN
Chelsea have won four straight Premier League matches and five of their last six since a 3-2 loss at Stoke in early December. The lone blemish was a scoreless draw at Arsenal. It's a difficult task for David Moyes' side who have only mustered three goals in their seven Premier League matches against Jose Mourinho's side.
45' ETO'O AT THE DOUBLE FOR BLUES
Jose Mourinho is well on course to recording his 100th Premier League victory with his Chelsea side leading Premier League champions Manchester United 2-0 at Stamford Bridge thanks to a brace from Samuel Eto'o. The Cameroon striker's last match against United was the 2009 Champions League Final in which he scored the opening goal and he was in the mood from the start, breaking the deadlock after 17 minutes. The striker cut inside Phil Jones before seeing his curling effort take a deflection off Michael Carrick which took it beyond David De Gea. United threatened through Ashley Young, Danny Welbeck and the lively Adnan Januzaj, but they were made to pay for their profligacy in front of goal in first-half stoppage time and it was Eto'o again. Ramires found Gary Cahill in space inside the United box and the defender picked out the frontman to bury his fifth top flight goal of the season. David Moyes' side have it all to do in the second 45 minutes.
45' HALF-TIME
Chelsea lead Manchester United 2-0 at the break thanks to a brace from Samuel Eto'o.
45' ETO'O AT THE DOUBLE
The corner eventually finds its way out to Ramires. He finds Gary Cahill in space inside the United box and the defender slides the ball across for Samuel Eto'o to bag his second of the game, despite the best efforts of David De Gea.
45' GOOOAAALLL!!!
SAMUEL ETO'O
43' DANGEROUS POSITION
Willian is caught by Phil Jones about 25 yards from goal and this free-kick is in a dangerous position.
42' JUST OVER
Eden Hazard picks out Samuel Eto'o inside the United box and his deflected cross falls for Oscar, but his spectacular bicycle kick flies inches over David De Gea's crossbar.
40' HEAVY COLLISION
David Luiz crashes into Phil Jones in what looks a very heavy collision and both are in need of some attention.
38' GREAT CHANCE
Adnan Januzaj's cross falls into the path of Danny Welbeck, who is just six yards from goal, but Cesar Azpilicueta puts him off and he fails to make a firm contact which allows Petr Cech to make an easy save.
36' PLENTY OF TIME
The Blues have won six of the last 10 Premier League home matches against United and they lead today although there is plenty of time to go in this one and David Moyes will be pleased with the way his side have played.
34' YOUNG IN THE BOOK
Ashley Young takes a booking for the team after pulling Ramires' shirt back as the Brazilian looked to break forward.
32' TRICKY ADNAN
David Luiz looks to steal the ball off Adnan Januzaj, but the United man escapes his attentions and drives his cross into the box, but neither Danny Welbeck or Ashley Young are able to latch onto it.
30' WELL WIDE
Willian hands the ball to Ashley Young but then Adnan Januzaj is tackled by Ramires and that allows Oscar to surge forward. However, his right-foot drive is always drifting wide of Petr Cech's far post.
28' UNITED PRESSURE
Antonio Valencia's lovely right-footed cross is flicked away but the ball is falling to United players and in particular Adnan Januzaj. His ball into the box is just about cleared away. Moments later, Patrice Evra crashes his left-foot piledriver into the side netting.
25' DISAPPOINTING CROSS
Samuel Eto'o's last match against Manchester United was the 2009 Champions League Final in which he scored the opening goal in a 2-1 victory in Rome's Olympic Stadium. He obviously likes playing against the Red Devils because he's opened the scoring this afternoon. David Luiz blocks Rafael, but play continues and the hosts break. However, Branislav Ivanovic's cross is far too deep.
22' HAZARD LIGHTS
Eden Hazard breezes past Jonny Evans and Rafael before seeing his cross blocked out for a corner. The ball in flies straight across the face of goal as Chelsea turn the screw.
19' LUIZ BOOKED
David Luiz collides heavily into Antonio Valencia on the near touchline and is booked by referee Phil Dowd.
17' BREAKTHROUGH CHELSEA
Samuel Eto'o picks the ball up on the left-hand side before cutting inside Phil Jones very easily and seeing his curling effort take a slight deflection off Michael Carrick, taking it beyond David De Gea into the far corner. That's his fourth Premier League goal of the season!
17' GOOOAAALLL!!!
SAMUEL ETO'O
15' SETTLED BLUES
Chelsea seem to have settled after coming to terms with United's system. They're controlling possession in the middle of the park much better. Oscar is clipped by Ashley Young and referee Phil Dowd immediately goes over to have a word with him.
13' DEFLECTED STRIKE
Adnan Januzaj is bundled over wide left but his ball into the box from the resulting free-kick is easily cleared. Willian's deflected effort then loops high up in the air before being easily caught by David De Gea.
11' CURLING EFFORT
Phil Jones crashes into David Luiz and Eden Hazard and now the Blues come forward through Ramires, but his low curler fails to trouble goalkeeper David De Gea.
9' ONE-WAY TRAFFIC
Adnan Januzaj seems to be playing right up top with Danny Welbeck playing almost as a right-winger. Rafael's cross is headed away by John Terry but the ball is coming back Chelsea's way. Great start this from David Moyes' men!
7' UNHAPPY ETO'O
Adnan Januzaj whips the ball into the box, but Chelsea clear their lines. At the other end Samuel Eto'o goes to ground but referee Phil Dowd allows play to continue which upsets the veteran striker.
5' HIGH PRESSING
The visitors are pressurising Chelsea high up the park which has prompted Jose Mourinho to come to the touchline and make a few adjustments. Ramires gets across to cover Antonio Valencia, but it's an early corner to United.
3' BRIGHT START BY UTD
David Moyes is chasing his first win at Stamford Bridge as a Premier League manager after going more than 11 years without a victory at Chelsea during his time as Everton manager. Willian took an early knock for the hosts, but it's United who have made the better start and almost take the lead after Ashley Young's drive is parried away by Petr Cech.
2' SYSTEMS AS EXPECTED
Chelsea have set up in a 4-2-3-1 system and head coach Jose Mourinho will want his side to put their opponents on the back foot from the start. The Blues have won 16 and lost none of their last 19 Premier League games at Stamford Bridge, drawing three, so they will be favourites to pick up three points today. Meanwhile, David Moyes has set his side up with a 4-4-2 formation. United have failed to score in their last three games against their opponents in all competitions and without Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, it does make things doubly difficult.
1' WE'RE UNDERWAY
Here we go then! Chelsea are in their traditional blue home kit while the visitors are in their red and white number. The atmosphere inside Stamford Bridge is superb for this huge clash while the pitch is looking lush and green. These two sides played out a scoreless draw at Old Trafford in August and that match featured just seven shots on target. Let's hope for a little more action this afternoon!
0' CHELSEA TEAM NEWS
Right-back Branislav Ivanovic only returned to training on Friday following a knee problem but makes the starting XI. Blues boss Jose Mourinho has opted to start with Samuel Eto'o up front with Fernando Torres having to settle for a place on the bench. 0' MATCH PREVIEW
Jose Mourinho will be targeting his 100th Premier League victory when Manchester United visit Stamford Bridge for Sunday's massive clash. The ailing champions were also the victims of his first win in that sequence in 2004. While Chelsea are in the midst of what appears to be a three-way title race involving Arsenal and Manchester City, United are 14 points adrift of the summit. Floundering in seventh place, they may even fail to qualify for next season's Champions League with a six-point gap having opened up to fourth. Third-placed Blues boast a healthy nine-point advantage over the Red Devils and are unbeaten in five straight matches against their opponents in all competitions. However, United will be looking for their sixth win out of seven in the Premier League although they have won only five of their 20 games in the top flight at the Bridge and Moyes has never won a head-to-head meeting with Jose Mourinho. So, whatever happens, we should be in for a feast of fun in a clash that rarely disappoints. Follow me on Twitter: @RazMirza
0' MOURINHO BACKS MOYES
David Moyes signed a six-year contract at Old Trafford when he replaced Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho insists he will be given that time to build his own dynasty. "We don't play a team that is 14 points behind the leaders, we play the champions, we play against Manchester United," Mourinho said. "This is the way I feel. I've been too long in the game. I've played dozens and dozens of derbies and classic matches. This is what experience says. I've not written United off. If you look at the table, obviously Arsenal and Manchester City are the top two teams. And Man City have different ammunition for such a difficult war compared to everybody else. But we are not far behind. Liverpool have a fantastic opportunity to do it because it's almost unique in that they're not playing in European competitions. And United are United. Eleven points from the leader is quite a lot, but they'll push all the way. The way this league is at this moment, for all the big teams, the first objective is to secure the top four. It'll be hard for everybody to do that."
0' EARLY CHELSEA TEAM NEWS
Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard could return from a calf injury. Right-back Branislav Ivanovic only returned to training on Friday following a knee problem and is unlikely to figure. New signing Nemanja Matic has been added to the squad but boss Jose Mourinho has said he will not start.
0' MOYES: UNITED HANGING IN
David Moyes will rely on the squad that triumphed over Swansea last weekend to end a run of three successive defeats for a game he knows could revitalise United's campaign, which included a drab first encounter between the sides at Old Trafford in August. "That was a difficult game for both of us that probably came a bit too early in the season," said the Scot. "We know this is going to be hard because Chelsea are very strong at home. As you would expect, they have made a strong start to the season. We are a little bit disappointed at not being in closer contention with the teams at the top but we are hoping between now and the end of the season we can do that. We want to hang in there and if we could win this game it would make people think we are not that far away."
0' EARLY MAN UTD TEAM NEWS
Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie will again be missing for United's trip to west London. Rooney (groin) has at least started running again, whilst Van Persie (thigh) should return to training on Monday after nearly six weeks on the sidelines.
0' KEY BATTLES
JOHN TERRY v ADNAN JANUZAJ: The experienced head of Terry in the heart of defence has been a noticeable feature in Chelsea's success so far this term, and the 33-year-old Blues skipper will lead the bid to break down United's attack. Eighteen-year-old Januzaj has taken the Premier League by storm and shown his maturity when called upon by Moyes. He will be United's main attacking threat with Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie sidelined. EDEN HAZARD v MICHAEL CARRICK: Hazard has already put in many game-changing performances so far this season and looks likely to be given the nod from Mourinho, having scored nine league goals so far. His deadly pace combined with his crossing ability make him a handful for any team. Carrick will be looking to to stifle the Belgian's threat and stamp his own authority on the game in the middle of the park. The England international's work ethic in tracking back will be vital, but his eye for a pass going forward could prove just as influential. FERNANDO TORRES v NEMANJA VIDIC: Torres has found form recently, with three goals in his last five Premier League games. The inconsistent Spain striker feeds off confidence and will be spurred by having netted in each of his last two outings. Tough-tackling centre-back Vidic helped United keep a clean sheet in their goalless encounter with Chelsea earlier this term and will be looking to organise his defence to achieve a similar outcome on Sunday.
0' MATCH OFFICIALS
