Swansea City vs. Tottenham Hotspur
Minute Commentary
90' FULL TIME: SWANSEA CITY 1, TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 3
After hardly being in this game for the first half hour, Spurs comfortably win their fifth consecutive league away game – a run not seen since the days of Bill Nicholson in the early sixties. Swansea had the best of the early chances, but after Adebayor scored in the 35th minute it was all Spurs, with Swansea huffing and puffing but rarely threatening the Spurs goal. A Chico own-goal from a fine Rose cross after 54 minutes doubled the Spurs lead, and the game was put beyond doubt by Adebayor 17 minutes later. The in-form stiriker, outstanding throughout today's game, was unmarked in the centre when he was found by Rose on the left, and he made no mistake – unlike Dembele who had shot wide from a similar position a minute earlier, ignoring the unmarked Adebayor. Although Bony pulled one back for Swansea with a volley 12 minutes from the end as Spurs visibly relaxed at the back, there was no way back and Spurs now have the best away record in the Premier League. As for Swansea, despite their pretty passing play they are creating too few clear-cut chances, and Michael Laudrup will be looking over his shoulder at the relegation struggle they're now being dragged into.
90' END OF THE GAME
Atkinson blows his whistle to end the game.
90' NO PRESSURE ON SPURS
Swansea are still pressing, but Spurs are happy to sit back let them have the ball in positions where they can't hurt them. The ball is floated across the Spurs area, but no striker comes close to it.
90' FIVE MINUTES ADDED ON
Five minutes of time added-on as both teams have realised where the points are going today.
88' ADEBAYOR CAN'T REACH IT
A long ball for Adebayor to chase is fractionally overhit, and the striker is narrowly beaten to it by Swansea keeper Tremmel.
84' BONNY PULL-BACK
Bony does really well to win the ball and pull it back, but without Swansea players forward the Spurs defenders easily clear.
82' SIGURDSSON SHOT SAVED
Walker wins the ball well by the Swansea by-line, and pulls it back for Sigurdsson, but his shot is saved by Tremmel.
80' ROSE BOOKED
Blatant time-wasting from Rose is punished by a yellow card from referee Atkinson – much to the delight of the home crowd who have suddenly woken up after Bony's goal.
78' GOOOAAALLL!!! BONY
After a period of half-hearted Spurs defending, the ball falls to Bony on the edge of the Spurs box and he lashes his volley into the corner of the Spurs goal. The Swans have one back - but is it too little, too late?
74' BONY HEADS WIDE
A Routledge cross is headed wide by Bony, but to be honest he never really looked threatening. I think everyone in the ground knows the game is up for Swansea now.
71' GOOOAAALLL!!! ADEBAYOR
Just a minute later, Rose breaks down the right and crosses to Adebayor – equally unmarked. And he shows Dembele exactly what to do by placing the ball into the back of the net. Spurs have three and look rampant!
70' DEMBELE WASTES CHANCE
A great run sees Dembele clean through on goal but he decides to shoot and puts it inches wide of the far post. Adebayor, unmarked and breaking alongside is furious.
68' BONY BOOKED
Bony is booked for a mid-air collision with Chiriches, who stays down and needs treatment. Meanwhile, Gylfi Sigurdsson has replaced Chadli in the Spurs midfield.
66' CHICO OVER THE BAR
Lamah twists and turns on the Spur left, and cuts into the area to win Swansea a corner. This delivery was much better, as Chico is given an unmarked header but he fires it over the Spurs bar.
64' SWANSEA CORNER WASTED
Davies wins a corner after a good run down the left, but puts this straight into the arms of Lloris. If Swansea are going to get anything from this game they'll have to make more of opportunities like that.
62' GREAT WORK ADEBAYOR
A fine break from Adebayor. He runs half the length of the pitch, beats two defenders, but when he can't see a clear opening he flicks it wide for Lennon to shoot, but his shot is blocked by Williams. Spurs looking very comfortable and likely to score again.
60' BONY SHOT
Bony shoots well from the edge of the Spurs box, and Lloris parries the shot then falls on the ball. A decent chance but Swansea still haven't threatened from inside the Spurs area.
58' DAVIES DOES WELL
Davies does superbly to keep the ball in play, just wide of the Spurs goal, but without support from his teammates Spurs clear up easily.
57' SWANS QUIETENED
All the noise now is coming from the Spurs supporters, as the home fans can see the obvious writing on the wall now. Barring an unlikely miracle, this looks like another home defeat for Swansea as their season slowly disintegrates, and they move slowly but inexorably into the relegation dogfight.
54' GOOOAAALLL!!! CHICO (OWN GOAL)
Spurs are two ahead! A patient buildup feeds Rose out wide. His low cross is then turned into his own net by Chico. When you're luck's out – it's well out!
53' POOR SWANS PASSING
A poor pass from Britton goes into touch. Swansea aren't their normal accurate self today - and when they have been passing well in this game it has looked very pretty but just hasn't created very much.
51' SHELVEY SUBSTITUTED
Meanwhile Shelvey has been receiving treatment, and finally limps off, to be replaced by Roland Lamah, himself back from injury.
49' AMAT BOOKED
First yellow card of the game as Amat scythes down Chiriches. Not malicious, just poor timing, and it looked a lot worse than it probably was.
47' SPURS CORNER
Walker wins the ball in defence, and steams forward. He feeds Adebayor, whose cross is headed out for a Spurs corner. Spurs have started this half the way they ended the first.
46' SECOND HALF UNDERWAY
Spurs kick off for the second half.
45' HALF-TIME : SWANSEA CITY 0, TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR 1
Spurs lead 1-0 at half-time by virtue of an Adebayor goal, converted after 35 minutes. That was virtually their first meaningful attack in a game where Swansea had previously had the bulk of the possession and the best chances, but had come closest from long-range shots, notably from Bony who rattled the Spurs bar after 25 minutes. But after their goal Spurs looked transformed, and Swansea looked demoralised, so the tables were turned and the visitors looked so much more like a team looking to achieve their fifth straight away Premier League win.
45' HALF-TIME WHISTLE
Martin Atkinson blows the half-time whistle.
45' LATE SWANSEA CORNER
Swansea win a late corner but it's easily cleared. They attack again, but the through ball to Routledge is just too long.
45' ERIKSEN WEAK SHOT
As we enter three minutes of added-on time, Eriksen cuts inside but his low shot is weak and Tremmel easily saves it.
43' SWANSEA GIVING IT AWAY
Swansea looking to break through, but are losing the ball too cheaply and too often, letting Spurs attack again.
40' ALL SPURS
What a difference a goal makes! Now it's all Spurs as the goal seems to have knocked the stuffing out of their hosts. After a period of sustained pressure, Adebayor blasts the ball straight at Tremmel from the edge of the box. Then Rose dinks past a Swans defender, but blasts high and wide when well-placed.
35' GOOOAAALLL!!! ADEBAYOR
From nothing, Spurs are ahead. Adebayor gets his head onto an Eriksen cross, and although this is parried by the keeper he's on hand to put the ball into the net. Harsh on Swansea but that's life at the bottom of the league!
32' MIDFIELD STAGNATION
Lots of passing – and losing - the ball in midfield, but neither team able to carve out a clear-cut opening. That's always the danger when teams setup like these two meet – the game getting stifled in midfield. The ball has been in either box very rarely so far, although Bony does get onto the end of a Rangel cross but can't get any power onto his close-range header.
27' SPURS BREAK
Spurs break themselves, but Davies is across quickly to beat Walker to the ball and put it out of touch near his left cornerflag.
25' CROSSBAR RATTLED
Bony rattles the crossbar with a fine drive from the edge of the area after a quick Swansea break. It must have been a great fingertip save as the ref awards a corner, and from it Bony is convinced he was pushed to the ground, but Atkinson isn't interested.
23' SPURS SIDEWAYS
A series of sideways Spurs passes across the back as Swansea deny them an opening, but eventually the ball is played forward to Adebayor in midfield. He feeds Walker, but his cross is too long and the Spurs attack breaks down.
20' BONY WIDE
Bony runs at the Spurs defence with the ball, nearly loses it twice, but wins it back after a tussle 30 yards from goal and shoots – but his shot is just wide of the left post.
16' SWANS ON TOP 60:40
60% possession to Swansea in the first 15 minutes – and that accurately reflects the way the game has gone so far, with the Swans having the better positions and chances – but Spurs are by no means out of this.
14' SHELVEY ON TARGET
Swansea break quickly, and Shelvey has the best shot of the game so far, forcing Lloris to make a good save in his top left hand corner. Britton shoots low but wide as the ball falls to him outside the box.
13' SPURS GROWING INTO THE GAME
Spurs are slowly growing into this game. Rose has got a few decent crosses in from the left, and a nice move down the right allows Dembele in, but he can't get into a shooting position.
10' SWANSEA LOOKING GOOD
One of these teams is close to the Champions League places and one close to the relegation zone, but you'd never tell which is which from this game so far. Swansea are playing with pace and confidence and Spurs have hardly had a touch.
6' SHELVEY SHOT WIDE
Shelvey shoots wide again – but this time to the left of the near post and much closer than before. Neat play from Pozuelo in the Spurs area created the opening. All Swansea so far.
5' EARLY SWANS PRESSURE
A long ball into the box from Rangel can't find Shelvey – it's Swansea who are having the bulk of the attacking play so far, but with only Shelvey and Bony up front they've had no joy so far, although they do win an early corner. It falls to Shelvey outside the box, but his snap shot curls well wide.
2' EARLY FOULS
Swansea pressing Spurs as they have possession – a couple of minor fouls in midfield are a declaration of their intent to fight for the points today.
1' WE'RE OFF!
Referee Martin Atkinson blows his whistle and Swansea kick off. Probably the worst possible time for them to be playing Spurs, but they desperately need to get something from this game to avoid getting sucked deep into the relegation fight.

0' SWANSEA CITY TEAM

0' REF WATCH
Today's referee is Martin Atkinson, refereeing his 21st match of the season and his 14th in the Premier League. In his 20 matches this season, he has shown 60 yellow cards and just three reds, although these came in just two consecutive matches either side of Christmas, with the dismissals of Sunderland's Wes Brown against Norwich and Stoke's Glenn Whelan and Marc Wilson in their defeat at Newcastle. This is his first meeting with either of today's clubs this season.
0' HEAD TO HEAD
When these sides met in August at White Hart Lane, Roberto Soldado scored from the spot just before the hour mark to give Spurs a 1-0 win. Despite being outshot 19-7 in the context, Swansea edged possession 52%-48%. In fact, Swansea have never beaten Tottenham in the Premier League, with just one draw for Swansea, 1-1, in the clubs' first meeting at this ground on New Year's Eve 2011. The four Premier League meetings since then have all been victories for Spurs, with an aggregate score of 7-2.
0' SPURS ON A RUN
Since Tim Sherwood replaced Andre Villas-Boas, Spurs have won four out of five Premier League matches, the only blip being a 1-1 home draw with West Brom. And away from home their form is impressive, with 22 points from ten matches, second only to North London rivals Arsenal on goal difference. Indeed, they have won their last four away matches, their first four-match away winning streak in the Premier League era, and have scored nine goals in the process – this run includes their win at Old Trafford on New Year's Day. However, they have conceded a goal in each of their last five away Premier League matches, after allowing just one in their first five matches away from White Hart Lane. Sherwood expects to see the return of winger Andros Townsend, who proved he is over his hamstring injury with a goal for the under-21 side in midweek.
0' SWANSEA IN THE DOLDRUMS
Swansea City go into this match just three points and four places clear of the relegation zone, having lost four of their last five Premier League matches and having taken just three points from a possible 21 in their last seven matches. The Liberty Stadium has been anything but a fortress this season, with just two wins and four draws from their ten home matches, and just one win from the last six home matches. Despite this record, they've outscored their opponents by 18-17 at home, and have only failed to score in one home match this season, a 0-0 draw with West Ham in October. Should they lose to Spurs today that would mark their longest winless run since being promoted to the Premier League in May 2011. Manager Michael Laudrup hopes to be able to select a number of players returning from injury, notably keeper Michael Vorm, defender Dwight Tiendalli, midfielders Nathan Dyer and Pablo Hernandez and striker Roland Lamah.
