West Ham United vs. Swansea City
Minute Commentary
90' FT: WEST HAM 2 SWANSEA 0
Ten-man West Ham gain a priceless three points after seeing off a lacklustre Swansea side at the Boleyn Ground. The Hammers won the game in the first half with two headed goals from Kevin Nolan on 26 and 45 minutes. The man who supplied the assists for both strikes - Andy Carroll - then ruined an outstanding individual display by getting himself sent off on the hour for striking Chico Flores with a flailing arm. It mattered little to the home side on the day as they kept the visitors at arm's length for the rest of the game. It's Cardiff next week for Swansea. If they turn in the same sort of soulless display as they did today it could be a South Wales derby to forget.
90' INTO ADDED TIME
Swansea have been so poor today it's easy to forget West Ham have had a man sent off. Four minutes of added time.
88' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
Antonio Nocerino is on for his home debut for West Ham, replacing Kevin Nolan.
84' LACKING MENACE
Bony tries an ambitious overhead kick that drifts harmlessly wide of the right-hand upright.
81' OVER FROM BONY
Bony blasts over the bar after getting on the end of a pass from Pozuelo. He's been very poor today, the man leading the Swansea line.
79' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
There is a huge roar from the West Ham fans as they see defensive stalwart Winston Reid ready to return after a lengthy spell out through injury. The New Zealand defender comes on for Taylor.
76' SWANSEA SUBSTITUTION
David N'Gog comes on for his Swansea debut, taking the place of Nathan Dyer. N'Gog is on loan from Bolton.
74' LACKING INSPIRATION
Swansea have dominated possession since gaining a numerical advantage, but they have still created very little to threaten Adrian in the home goal.
70' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
Pablo Hernandez replaces the injured Jonjo Shelvey for Swansea.
69' SHELVEY STRUGGLING
Jonjo Shelvey is not moving well at all in the Swansea midfield. The visitors may be forced into another switch.
66' WEST HAM SUBSTITUTION
West Ham make a switch too, with Carlton Cole coming on for Matt Jarvis. That's a good move from Allardyce, else otherwise it would have been half an hour of solid defending and nothing more from his side. At least now they have some sort of attacking threat that Swansea will have to respect.
63' SWANSEA SUBSTITUTION
Here is that change: it's Alex Pozuelo for Jordi Amat.
62' CHANGE IN THE OFFING
Surely it would make sense for Swansea to throw on another attacking player. Michael Laudrup thinks the same as he ponders a switch.
61' DESERVING DISMISSAL
The pair were involved in an aerial tussle, with Carroll throwing the Swansea man over his shoulder. He then brought his arm round and caught Flores in the head. There was certainly intent there.
59' RED CARD FOR CARROLL
Andy Carroll is sent off for West Ham after a clash with Chico Flores.
57' ONLY JUST WIDE
Shelvey's initial shot is blocked by Taylor and then De Guzman's effort deflects off Noble and only just goes wide of the post.
55' DESERVING OF A GOAL
All that has been missing from Carroll's man-of-the-match display is a goal. The big man thinks the same himself as he shoots ambitiously from 25 yards. That wouldn't have gone in had there been four goals stacked one on top of the other.
54' DOING HIS JOB
Routledge tries a snap-shot from 20 yards that deals McCartney a painful blow below the waistline. A block's a block, whatever part of the anatomy is used.
51' DISMAL EFFORT
Bony turns on the edge of the box, but his attempted left-footer is sliced and ends up nearer the corner flag than the goal.
50' SHORT OF IDEAS
Swansea have to consider throwing on a second striker early in the second half. Bony has got nothing out of the West Ham defence so far and looks short of support. He's been short of enthusiasm, too, but so have many of his team-mates.
48' CLOSE TO A HAT-TRICK
Jarvis rounds the goalkeeper and pulls a pass back for Nolan, who looks set for a hat-trick until Davies makes an excellent interception.
46' HERE WE GO AGAIN
Swansea get the second half under way.
45' HT: WEST HAM 2 SWANSEA 0
West Ham lead at the break and they deserve their two-goal advantage. Both goals, on 26 and 45 minutes, were scored by Kevin Nolan with Andy Carroll supplying the assist with a perfect headed knockdown. Sluggish is the only word to describe Swansea's first-half performance. Wilfried Bony did look like he might be in on goal at one point, only for James Tomkins to make an excellent covering tackle.
45' GOAL: WEST HAM 2 SWANSEA 0
Kevin Nolan heads home a second for West Ham, nodding into the corner after Carroll had supplied another knockdown from a corner from the right, this time delivered by Downing. That's half-time.
45' TAME SHOT
Swansea concede possession deep in their own half, but Carroll's 25-yarder is straight at Tremmel.
42' LACKING SPIRIT
There is no spirit in evidence in this Swansea side today. If you didn't know better you would guess they were the team in the relegation zone.
40' WASTED FREE-KICK
Swansea win a free-kick in a promising position. Shelvey smashes the initial effort into the wall and from the rebound Williams blazes into the crowd. Carroll volleys wide from distance at the other end.
37' WIDE BY SHELVEY
Shelvey finds some space down the inside-left channel but drags his effort comfortably wide of the far upright.
36' SUPERB SAVING TACKLE
Bony looks clean through after a long ball from Shelvey, but he dithers for a second and is robbed by a magnificent last-ditch tackle by Tomkins.
33' WEST HAM BOOKING
Noble collects the first caution of the game for a rugby tackle on Bony.
32' INJURY NEWS
James Collins has been in the wars today. He got a bang on the nose earlier and now he is struggling with a shoulder injury.
32' DANGEROUS CROSS
Noble crosses from the right and it flashes across the face of goal with nobody able to apply the final touch.
31' NO PLACE LIKE HOME
That's only Nolan's third goal of the season. Interestingly, 11 of his last 13 goals have come at Upton Park.
28' GOAL DETAILS
It's a perfect Sam Allardyce-type goal. McCartney delivered a cross from the left, Carroll nodded down expertly and Nolan buried a left-foot shot into the corner.
27' GOAL: WEST HAM 1 SWANSEA 0
Kevin Nolan gives West Ham the lead.
24' A SLOW BURNER
A quarter of the game gone, and still we wait for a decent effort on goal. West Ham have had the edge so far, Swansea have been sloppy in possession in the final third.
21' WELL OVER THE BAR
Carroll wins a great header in the area, but unfortunately the knockdown drops at the feet of a West Ham defender and Tomkins blazes high into the stands.
20' PENALTY CLAIM
West Ham want a penalty for a foul by Williams on Tomkins, but Mr Webb is not interested.
19' SOUND DEFENDING
Bony beats Tomkins for a moment, but the West Ham defender recovers well to block the shot. We are still waiting for the first effort on target.
17' LENIENT DECISION
Tomkins goes through the legs of Dyer and all Swansea get is a free-kick. That really should have been a booking.
15' GOALS IN SHORT SUPPLY
Not wishing to put a dampener on today's match, but 19 of the previous 46 times these sides have met in the league it has been goalless at half-time.
12' FOOLISH FOUL
A barge in the back by Davies wins West Ham a free-kick in a promising position level with the penalty area on the right. Noble delivers, but Tremmel punches away under pressure.
9' RADAR FAULTY
No surprise that Carroll effort wasn't on the mark. The former Liverpool man is yet to record a shot on target in three league appearances since he returned from injury.
7' EARLY AERIAL SALVO
Jarvis delivers a hanging cross from the right. Carroll rises, but the ball skims off the top of his head and out for a goal-kick.
6' FREE-KICK, REFEREE
Demel pushes Shelvey in the back and then trips him for good measure. Mr Webb gives West Ham a free-kick. It could be the home side's day.
4' EARLY HAMMERS CORNER
Matt Jarvis wins West Ham an early corner. Davies has comes up clutching his shoulder having made the tackle.
2' EARLY KNOCK
Guy Demel has got a kick on the shin in the early going and gets gingerly to his feet.
1' HERE WE GO
West Ham kick off, attacking the goal to our right.

0' WEST HAM TEAM NEWS

0' PREVIEW
West Ham entertain Swansea in Saturday's early kick-off in the Premier League, looking for a win that will haul them out of the relegation zone for at least a couple of hours. The Hammers will have been boosted by a magnificent result on Wednesday, when they held title-chasing Chelsea to a draw at Stamford Bridge. Their dogged defensive display was not universally popular, however, with Blues boss Jose Mourinho calling it “football from the 19th century”. It remains to be seen whether West Ham will don a new kit today of double-breasted frock coat, top hat and knee breeches. Swansea really needed their win over Fulham in midweek, because they had started to slip worryingly close to the drop-zone themselves. The visitors have too much quality in their ranks not to survive and as they get their injured players back in action they should see an upturn in results. Defeat at the Boleyn Ground today, however, would see them only two points clear of West Ham. Today's game kicks off at 1245GMT, so join us around 30 minutes beforehand when we should have the confirmed team news, which will be followed by a match commentary.
0' PLAYERS TO WATCH
Andy Carroll is fit again and already under pressure for his place with the Hammers having signed Roma striker Marco Borriello on loan in the transfer window. Carroll netted the winner in this fixture last season while himself being on loan from Liverpool, but has only made one Premier League start since making that move permanent in the summer. Swansea's record signing Wilfried Bony has looked impressive at times this season. But strikers are judged mainly on their goal output and Bony has only scored in five matches (scoring twice on two occasions). Four of those goals have been in defeats and his seven in total have been worth just a single point. That's simply not good enough.
0' HEAD TO HEAD
West Ham have the better head-to-head record in league meetings between the sides with 20 wins to 15 by Swansea and 10 games being drawn. At Upton Park, West Ham have won 16 of the 22 meetings, there have been five draws and the lone Swansea success came all the way back in 1956 in the old Second Division. The first meeting between the sides this season on Oct. 17 finished in a goalless draw. West Ham were narrow winners in the corresponding match last season on Feb. 2, Andy Carroll getting the only goal. The margin of victory would have been much greater but for a man-of-the-match performance by Gerhard Tremmel in the Swansea goal. The away side hasn't scored in the last four meetings between these sides.
0' FORM GUIDE
West Ham start the day in 18th place with 19 points from 23 games, two points from safety. The Hammers have collected only nine points at home, the fewest in the division and only Crystal Palace have scored fewer goals in front of their own fans. West Ham have won just one of their last ten, a 2-0 win at Cardiff on Jan.11. Their last home win came against Fulham at the end of November. Coincidentally, Swansea beat the Cottagers last time out, ending a run of three straight defeats and eight games without a win. Fulham are a common theme here, because the Swans haven't won away since a triumph at Craven Cottage on Nov.23. Swansea currently lie 11th, with 24 points. They have struggled to find the net away from home, though, with only eight goals in 11 games.
0' EARLY TEAM NEWS
Joey O'Brien is ruled out for West Ham after dislocating his shoulder in the 0-0 draw with Chelsea on Wednesday night. Mohamed Diame is doubtful after suffering a knee injury on that match. Winston Reid and Ricardo Vaz Te are unlikely to feature, but the good news for Sam Allardyce is that both are back in full training after injury. Michu and Jose Canas (both ankle) are again missing for Swansea, but both should return in the near future. Garry Monk (knee) remains sidelined and Gerhard Tremmel will continue in goal with Michel Vorm still not fully recovered from his knee problem.
0' MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Taking charge of today's game is Howard Webb, who presided over both the Champions League and World Cup finals in 2010. Webb showed more yellow cards than any other Premier League official last season, 109 in 30 matches, and also brandished four straight red cards. This season, however, the South Yorkshire whistleblower's first dismissal was not administered until last weekend, with Hull's Tom Huddlestone getting his marching orders for two bookable offence at Norwich. The opposition has failed to score in the three games this season Webb has refereed involving today's two teams, so let's hope that doesn't point to a goalless draw. His assistants today are Scott Ledger and Sian Massey, while Jon Moss is the fourth official.
