West Ham United-Norwich City Preview
(AP) -- LONDON (SE) - Norwich City will be looking for their first win of the Premier League season when they welcome West Ham United to Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon.
The Canaries lost 5-0 to Fulham on the opening weekend of the campaign, but have followed up that disappointment with two draws - including an excellent point at Tottenham last time out.
"I think we needed that result at Fulham," said midfielder Bradley Johnson. "Last year has gone and I think we came into this season thinking it was going to be pretty easy, but the Fulham game was a kick up the backside and we put it right against QPR. We can't go into games like that in this league because we were punished, so we just want to kick on from here and hopefully we can do that against West Ham.
"I think after the first game everyone was thinking we were going to just lie down this season and get relegated. But we've shown throughout my time here our fighting spirit and never say die attitude. If we can put in performances like the one at Tottenham each week then we'll be safe. We'll be alright."
West Ham United will be forced to play for at least the next month without on-loan striker Andy Carroll, but manager Sam Allardyce has stressed that his team is able to adapt.
"The best way for a team to play is to have variation and we have shown that since the beginning of the season," Allardyce said in an interview with West Ham's official website. "We go short, we go long, we go forward, we go back, we go diagonal and we go in behind. It makes us very hard to play against and luckily we have the players like Ricardo Vaz Te and Mark Noble who can adapt."
The Hammers won 3-0 last time out against Fulham and after the match Allardyce praised the calibre of his team's finishing.
"It was good to see the quality of our finishing being so good. Before we scored our second we had two or three really good chances that all tested the keeper.
"I really like the variation of the squad. We have a lot of talent - young, old, homegrown and foreign - and it all adds to the mix to form a very strong squad, which you need in this league."
Norwich have doubts over Russell Martin (ankle), Elliott Bennett (knee) and Elliott Ward (ankle). As well as Carroll, West Ham may be without Matt Jarvis (thigh).
The Canaries have won just one of their last five home games in the Premier League, while West Ham have lost five straight away games in the top flight. Norwich have attempted the joint fewest shots in the league this season (34), but are the only team yet to pick up a booking. West Ham have committed more fouls than any other side in the opening three games (45).
