Liverpool-Chelsea Preview

(AP) -- LONDON (SE) - It will be a case of familiar foes at Stamford Bridge when Chelsea host Liverpool on Sunday afternoon.

The two clubs have met an astonishing 32 times in eight seasons, and equally remarkably have won 12 times each, with eight matches drawn. In recent times Liverpool have had the better of league meetings between the two, winning all of the last four, but Chelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo is hopeful of making amends for that run of results on Sunday.

"They are our bogey team," said the Chelsea manager. "They seem always to play exceptionally well against us and get results. It's always a difficult game against Liverpool and it's difficult to beat them. It hasn't happened too often in the last three seasons and we have to be aware of that, focused, and try to play a good game to be able to win.

"I think it looks like he (Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers) has left the whole team that will play on Sunday at home so they will be very fresh. Luis Suarez is a magnificent player, and very dangerous. They don't have many other strikers but they have some young talented players and some experienced players, Glen Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Gerrard, Enrique are all Premier League players with a lot of games in their legs.

"They always seem to play us in a moment where we are not at our best. On Sunday we are in good spirit, full of confidence and the team is playing well so hopefully it will be a different story."

Liverpool were beaten 1-0 by Russian side Anzhi in the Europa League on Thursday, but will welcome back Steven Gerrard and Suarez after resting both for the trip to Moscow. One player who won't be afforded such a warm reception by the Liverpool players and fans is former Red Fernando Torres, who defender Martin Skrtel has earmarked as a major threat.

"Even if he isn't scoring goals at the moment he is still one of the best strikers in the world and still dangerous," said the Liverpool centre-back. "We have to keep our eye on him for 90 minutes and not let him score. I haven't seen Chelsea play too many times this season but from what I've heard his performances are better than last season. It's going to be hard playing against him but I believe in my qualities and the quality of our team and I believe we won't let him score.

"I always look forward to every single game I can play for this club. These big games are special and Sunday will be special."

Chelsea's Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard are injury doubts, as are Liverpool's Johnson and Pepe Reina. Martin Kelly (knee), Lucas Leiva (thigh) and Fabio Borini (foot) are out for the Reds.

Liverpool did the double over Chelsea last season and knocked them of the League Cup, but lost to Di Matteo's side in the FA Cup final. Liverpool were the only team to beat Chelsea twice in the league last season, and have won their last four meetings with the Blues in the top flight. Chelsea have gone two games without a win for the first time this season, and have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last five matches Suarez has attempted 56 shots on goal this season - 13 more than any other player in the Premier League.
