ZURICH (AP) FIFA says Chelsea defender Gary Cahill will serve only a mandatory one-match ban after being sent off in the Club World Cup final.

FIFA's disciplinary committee declined to add extra matches to his suspension, but ordered him to pay a fine of 5,000 Swiss francs ($5,500).

Cahill will serve his suspension Wednesday when Chelsea faces Leeds in a League Cup quarterfinal match.

Cahill kicked Corinthians forward Emerson in the 90th minute of the Brazilian side's 1-0 win on Sunday in Yokohama, Japan.

The England defender claimed to have retaliated after being hit in the face, and suggested Emerson overreacted.

Cahill said the kick on his opponent's shin "wouldn't have been enough to knock over my one-year-old daughter."
