LONDON (AP) Joe Cole denied Queens Park Rangers a vital Premier League win by grabbing West Ham's equalizer in a 1-1 draw Saturday, after Loic Remy marked his debut in English football with a goal for the last-place visitors.
France striker Loic Remy scored with his first shot in a QPR shirt, putting his new team ahead after 14 minutes following a bright start at Upton Park.
However, West Ham piled on the pressure and was rewarded when Cole - recently signed on a free transfer from Liverpool - tucked in a rebound after Carlton Cole was defied by one of Julio Cesar's many saves in the QPR goal.
It was the former England winger's first goal since returning to his boyhood club this month, having come close to joining former manager Harry Redknapp at QPR.
"I wanted Joe. I would've had Joe about two weeks before West Ham got him," Redknapp said. "Once West Ham came in, he's only ever going to come to West Ham. I don't blame him. This is his home."
QPR is four points adrift at the bottom of the standings, but Remy's goalscoring debut following his club-record move from Marseille will give the team hope of avoiding the drop.
"It was good to see him score in his first game," Redknapp said. "He's got great movement off the ball and if you can get people to slide him in when he makes those runs, he will get in because he's got lightning pace and he will score some goals.
"He'll do OK."
