Millwall fan gets 5-year ban for racial abuse

LONDON (AP) A Millwall fan who racially abused former Senegal striker El Hadji Diouf during an English league game has been banned from attending football matches for five years.

Gerrard Scanlon, a 53-year-old delivery driver from north London, had already been banned for life by Millwall from all matches at The Den, the club's ground.

Television footage showed Diouf, who plays for Leeds, being subjected to racist chants and taunts throughout the second-tier League Championship game on Nov. 18.

Scanlon admitted hurling racial abuse when he appeared before Bromley Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. He was also ordered to pay 525 pounds ($800) in fines and costs.
