FC Dallas' Hernandez retires after 13 seasons

FRISCO, Texas (AP) FC Dallas midfielder Daniel Hernandez is retiring from professional soccer.

The club said in a statement Wednesday that Hernandez would retire immediately and move into a coaching role.

The 36-year-old Hernandez has played for five MLS teams over a 13-season career. He scored six career goals and 20 assists and served as a captain on FC Dallas' 2010 team that won the Western Conference championship.

Coach Schellas Hyndman says the club is looking forward to working with Hernandez as he moves into coaching.

Hernandez is a native of Tyler and a graduate of SMU.
