Red Bulls name Robin Fraser assistant coach

HARRISON, N.J. (AP) The New York Red Bulls have named former Chivas USA coach Robin Fraser an assistant coach.

Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh announced the hiring Wednesday, saying the former MLS player will be a key resource for Mike Petke in his first season as head coach.

Fraser coached Chivas USA for the past two seasons. He had worked as an assistant at Real Salt Lake, helping the franchise win the MLS Cup in 2009.

A two-time MLS Defender of the Year in 1999 and 2004, and a five-time MLS All-Star, Fraser played in 260 games with the Los Angeles Galaxy (1996-2000), Colorado Rapids (2001-03) and Columbus Crew (2004-05).

The Red Bulls, in training camp in Florida now, will open the season March 3 vs. Portland.
