Earthquakes sign F Chris Wondolowski to new deal

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) The San Jose Earthquakes have re-signed forward Chris Wondolowski.

The deal announced by the club Tuesday makes Wondolowski the second San Jose player to take a designated player spot. The Bay Area native scored 27 goals last season, tying the Major League Soccer record set by Tampa Bay's Roy Lassiter in 1996.

The 30-year-old Wondolowski won the Golden Boot as the league's top scorer while leading San Jose to the Supporters' Shield with the best regular-season record. He was the first Earthquakes player to win the MVP award, and the first MLS player to lead the league in goals for three straight years.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
